Can't Stop: Al Green

Buy new: $13.98 $10.99

Al Green's extraordinary voice became known to the world through a string of legendary hits in the early 1970s. For "I CAN'T STOP", Al Green's debut album for Blue Note Records, the dynamic singer triumphantly returns to his signature glorious sound, reaching new heights in the process. The recording marks the historic reunion of Green and original producer Willie Mitchell, bringing them together for the first time since 1985. Together they capture the unique sound they created three decades ago - a perfect blend of Memphis soul, gospel, blues, and early rock & roll. To do so, Green returned to Mitchell's Royal studios to sing in the same vocal booth, on the same microphone (No. 9, an RCA ribbon mic reserved for Green's use only) and with many of the same stellar musicians who played on the original Hi Records sessions. more info

Wildwood Flower: June Carter Cash

Buy new: $13.98 $10.99
7 new & used from $1.09

The tracks that comprise Wildwood Flower became June Carter Cash's final recording sessions, and were held from October 2002 to March 2003. Largely a family affair, Wildwood Flower is easily June Carter Cash's least most personal recording and perhaps her best. Husband Johnny sings in either duet or as backup on almost all the tracks; also singing are daughter Carlene, granddaughter Tiffany Anastasia Lowe, and cousins Joe and Janette Carter. The music on Wildwood Flower is both a credible historical document and, more importantly, the last will and testament of a legend who went back to her beginnings as a way of understanding the continuity of family and song in the present. more info

Music > Specialty Stores > Music Cafe > Music Cafe Vol. 8 : Linger: Jen Chapin

Linger: Jen Chapin

Buy new: $9.98 $6.50
6 new & used from $2.03

Jen Chapin is the daughter of the late folk-rock artist Harry Chapin. Jen Chapin's work is quite different from her father's; while he was primarily a folk-rocker, she is much more difficult to categorize. Folk-rock has influenced her, but jazz, soul, funk, pop, and blues have also had a major impact on the New Yorker . Some of Chapin's introspective, probing work could be described as jazzy folk-pop; some of it could be called adult alternative and some of it has strong R&B leanings. However you categorize Chapin, it is obvious that she is very much her own person. Check out her new CD Linger on Hybrid Recordings. more info
