| | Do the Right Thing (Blu-ray) new! | | Videos/DVDs: See more matches | | | Do the Right Thing - 20th Anniversary Edition - Blu-Ray DVD Review By: Dusty Somers - Blogcritics.org Reviews Published on: 6/29/2009 10:47 AM | | Visceral, challenging, immediate, and uncomfortable, Do the Right Thing hasn’t lost any of its bite over the last 20 years. Often considered Spike Lee’s masterwork — I’d say it’s definitely in the top three — it will likely endure better than any of his other films. The racial questions the film provokes are still relevant now even if the circumstances surrounding most issues of race aren’t quite as inflamed as in the film. Lee himself certainly thinks the questions still need to be asked. Do the Right Thing works because despite the over-the-top nature of many of the events (even this is debatable), it’s not purely a message movie. read the full review | |

Just like religion and the U.S. Constitution, science fiction has remained popular while losing much of its meaning. Sci fi has never been bigger than it is today, but unlike the fifties -- when even the lamest creature features carried "messages" about nuclear anxiety or the nobility of space exploration -- today's sci-fi movies and TV series don't have much to say. At best, they are action/drama series with intergalactic settings. The hugely successful Star Trek franchise has been part of that transition. read the full review

Street Fighter, based, in fact, on the second installment of the video game franchise (like the source material means anything for this kind of thing), falls somewhere between the two, but it’s definitely leaning toward the “no, it really is that bad” side. read the full review
