Here's a little something to think about, should you find your unfortunate, misguided, sorry butt dragged to see this utter waste of a movie. Who's more masculine-looking: Matthew McConaughey, with his Goldilocks looks and enormous pecs, or Kate Hudson, with her creepy, angular features and ironed-straight Guns N' Roses hairdo? This spurious conjecture is sadly far more interesting than How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, a film which effectively loses its audience inside of 10 minutes. read the full review

| | 33. Woodstock: 3 Days of Peace & Music, Ultimate Collector's Edition (The Director's Cut) new! | | | Director: Michael Wadleigh | | Format: DVD Release Date: 6/9/2009 | | Woodstock - DVD Review By: Pete Croatto - filmcritic.com DVD Reviews Published on: 5/29/2009 2:39 PM | |
The appeal of Woodstock isn't as a concert film, though there are some great performances that hold up 40 years later. The film is a historical document, representing the zenith of the peace and love movement of the 1960s, and music's integral role in that equation. If you were born in the '70s or '80s, your take on the 1960s might consist of news clips and cultural caricatures. Director Michael Wadleigh sets the record straight. For those whose musical history begins with Fall Out Boy, Woodstock was a three-day festival of "peace and music" held in upstate New York 40 years ago. All of the big musical acts of the day performed: Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jefferson Airplane, and The Who. read the full review

| | 44. The Day the Earth Stood Still 2008 (Blu-ray)(3-Disc Special Edition) | | | Starring: Keanu Reeves Jennifer Connelly Director: Scott Derrickson | | Format: Blu-Ray DVD Release Date: 4/7/2009 | | Video Reviews Available: 1 | | The Day The Earth Stood Still - Blu-Ray DVD Review By: David R Perry - Blogcritics.org Reviews Published on: 4/12/2009 12:51 PM | | I don't envy anyone who must attempt a remake of a classic film. And especially with sci-fi, because it's too easy to run afoul of obsessive types who have probably memorized whole passages of the film, analyzed it shot-by-shot to look for production gaffes, and have probably fashioned their own robots and space suits in its honor. (And if there is not already a Gort flashlight tie-in, rest assured that industrious fans are probably already on that too.) So you're basically setting yourself up for failure by even trying. If its too much like the original then it "didn't bring anything new to the story", and if you did bring something new to the story then you "butchered a classic." read the full review | |
