Obviously, a TV series has to have a story compelling enough to carry the show through a 20-something episodes. Unlike a movie, which is only a couple of hours long, a TV series needs to find a balance between delivering regular conclusions so that the viewers feel satisfied, while also setting up new twists and developments, which will keep the viewers wanting to come back. read the full review

It is one of those films where the bad guys, in this case led by the enigmatic Ryder (John Travolta), have everything planned to the last detail, every eventuality worked out. That is, they have every eventuality worked out except for there being someone with a little too much knowledge, too much intelligence, and too much guts working the other side of the hostage negotiation. read the full review

We’re bombarded with ads and praise for things that rarely deserve it. Hype’s a double-edged sword -- everyone wants their product to be known but too much hype can lead to higher expectations than the property can deliver on. AMC’s original show Mad Men has received such high acclaim and is one of the rare shows to truly earn it. But what is it about this show that draws in audiences and earns heaps of Emmy nominations? What is it exactly that makes this show tick? read the full review

Let’s cut to the chase; the Weekly World News could have given us a better story about a man and a woman united by a heart transplant. It’s not for lack of talent, either, that this flick stumbles. If anything, Return to Me hosts almost as overqualified a cast as Brian De Palma’s lame duck blockbuster, Mission to Mars. The real problem here seems to be lack of directorial focus. After a career of feature film supporting roles, television walk-ons and cartoon voiceovers, Bonnie Hunt somehow convinced MGM to let her sit in the folding chair. The result is a charming romantic comedy tragically bogged down by the uncomfortable avoidance of its central plot point. read the full review

After watching the trailer for Changing Lanes, I expected a film similar to Steven Spielberg’s road rage drama Duel, where a hatchback and a semi do battle. While Changing Lanes is definitely a clash between two men, much to my surprise, it reaches a deeper and more satisfying level. Changing Lanes is a thought-provoking, sophisticated drama that explores the motivations behind our split second decision-making and the consequences that result. Ben Affleck is Gavin Banek, a young Wall Street attorney on the fast track to becoming partner at his father-in-law’s well-respected law firm. read the full review

John Cameron Mitchell 's thesis in Shortbus harkens back to E.M. Forster's classic exhortation: "Only connect." In Mitchell's world, however, a big part of connection is sexual connection, and a big part of sexual connection is the ability to give and enjoy earth-shattering orgasms. Mitchell's characters are in search of sexual connection, and it's a shocking, hardcore search that brings intensely graphic (and real) sex to mainstream cinema for the first time. To put it another way: Oh. My. God. read the full review

Sure, elements of the film aren’t all that stunning and there’s nothing particularly earth-shaking about this David Koepp project, but it does mark Gervais’ first opportunity to lead a picture and it is uplifting and amusing. read the full review

His first major comedy special and DVD was 2006’s Russell Peters: Outsourced. He returns with his newest DVD, Russell Peters: Red, White and Brown, taken from a show he performed at Madison Square Garden in 2009.
