The story around the title character just tries too hard, resulting in a story that is stretched too thin and too shallow to be interesting. As a legal thriller, there isn't a ton of thrills to the movie, and as a character study piece there isn't enough of a character to study read the full review

Run, Forrest, run! It sure seemed great at the time, but Gump is aging, and it's starting to show a wrinkle or too. Recently I sat down to watch the double-disc DVD release, and I still found it fresh and smile-provoking, but boy if it isn't a sickly sweet experience. But what a crazy chain of events Forrest Gump has spawned: a poorly-received book sequel, a restaurant chain, and hordes of imitators -- not to mention a critical backlash. Why? Forrest Gump certainly plays to the sucker inside all of us, a tale of how a person can overcome any obstacle if he only tries hard enough. read the full review

The suspicious Clayton moves like a '70s picture but has roots in modern industrial problems such as corporate deception and greed. Attorney Arthur Edens (Tom Wilkinson) leads the defense team in a $3 billion class-action suit filed against U/North. The company is being sued by salt-of-the-earth farmers because of a germ killer U/North used despite knowing it was hazardous to people's health. Pay little attention to the details, though, because this plot is one of the largest MacGuffins we've seen in years. The story is about the lawsuit without really being about the lawsuit, if that makes sense. read the full review

This film centers on Ayers’ relationship with L.A. Times reporter Steve Lopez (Downey). Lopez, always in pursuit of a topic for his next column, one day comes across Ayers playing his violin in a city park. Intrigued, Lopez decides to make Ayers his next subject. What follows in the movie is the ups and down of their tumultuous relationship. Ayers must grapple with the balance, what turns out to be a very thin line, between helping Ayers and exploiting him. read the full review

Haunting of Molly Hartley | | | Starring: Chace Crawford Hayley Bennett Director: Mickey Liddell | | Format: DVD Release Date: 9/15/2009 | | Video Reviews Available: 1 | | The Haunting of Molly Hartley - DVD Review By: David Bezanson - filmcritic.com DVD Reviews Published on: 2/13/2009 5:25 PM
Molly Hartley is a troubled teen -- misunderstood, depressed, haunted. School sucks, and her psychotic mother has just been locked up after stabbing Molly in the chest. If that's not enough, and it's not (for a good movie at least), Molly learns from her mother that her soul is lost, and she will join Satan's army when she turns 18. Is she crazy? And if not, why does she keep hearing voices? In spite of its retro title and touches, The Haunting of Molly Hartley is a typical horror film -- occasionally unpleasant, intermittently scary, set in a Bible-obsessed American town where no one is as normal as they seem. There's nothing wrong with this premise; evangelicals believe lots of crazy things. read the full review
