Unlike its immediate predecessors, which have retooled (Unforgiven), remade (3:10 To Yuma), revered (Open Range), and re-imagined (The Proposition) the genre, Ed Harris' Appaloosa is simply content being a good Western. It's unapologetic of its formula, unwilling to waver in its characterizations, and unhurried in its pace. It tells a story you've heard before -- more than once -- but it handles its business with rugged aplomb. That ought to be enough. But for some reason, it isn't. read the full review

Had it been seasons 1 or 2, I would've been like a kid on Christmas morning, tearing off the plastic wrapping and promptly removing the first disc in preparation for hours of Grey's goodness. I don't think I'm alone in saying that while the first two seasons of this series were totally addicting, the third season was seriously lacking. Seriously. read the full review

Blades of Glory (HD) | | | Starring: Jon Heder Will Arnett Director: Josh Gordon Will Speck | | Format: High Definition DVD Release Date: 8/28/2007 | | Video Reviews Available: 1 | | Blades of Glory - DVD Review By: Franck Tabouring - Cinema Blend DVD Reviews Published on: 8/31/2007 8:23 PM | | I have to admit, when I first heard about the premise of the movie, all I expected was yet another embarrassing slapstick comedy stuffed with tasteless humor and homophobic jokes. Surprisingly, such is not the case, and the concept of two men pairing up to skate has quite a different intention than, let's say, Kevin James and Adam Sandler's fake marriage in I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry. read the full review

To a film critic, the mainstream is like a ravenous shark with a defective hypothalamus. As long as Hollywood seeds the entertainment waters with chum, the masses will feed and feed until their dead, lifeless eyes roll back in their head. Examples of this baffling binge and purge are released every year -- inexplicable, unexplainable crowd-pleasers like Wild Hogs, Norbit, and Night at the Museum. Now comes Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, the even louder, more obnoxious sequel to Dreamworks' loud, obnoxious CG original. This is a film about more: More already dated pop culture references, more digitally-rendered eye candy, more abject pandering to a seemingly easy-to-satisfy demographic. read the full review

The prehistoric road-trip comedy arrived in theaters on the heels of the superior Shrek and paled in comparison. Even judged on its own merits, Age moved like a two-ton glacier, suffered from a by-the-numbers screenplay that failed to take one risk, and overdosed on sadistic slapstick humor last utilized by the animators of Tom and Jerry. read the full review

The reactions they give when the other one expresses preference for any other person or ignores them for even a brief period really says it all. Reactions are Krasinski's forte and they should create a new Emmy award in the category just for him. read the full review

Characters died left and right in the third season of the soapy dramedy. The fatalities included two characters being shot to death, one character falling off a roof and one suicide. Needless to say, despite the misleading look of Wisteria Lane, life isn't easy for upper-middle class suburbanites in this series. read the full review

Every cliche has at least one perfect example: An “Exhibit A” that makes the hidden good side of the cliche come to light and makes the jaded tired old story new again. For the tale of the hooker with the heart of gold, the perfect example is Petty Woman. You have a dapper, somewhat older wealthy man (Richard Gere), a surprisingly attractive prostitute (Julia Roberts), a toadie type (Jason Alexander) bent on breaking up the high roller and the ho, and the kindly gent (Hector Elizondo) who teaches the trailer trash how to hang with the upper crust. Pretty Woman is just as much a fairy tell as ever… executed just perfectly enough to make your mouth water. It’s candy for your brain. read the full review
