| | 14. Woodstock: 3 Days of Peace & Music, Ultimate Collector's Edition (The Director's Cut) new! | | | Director: Michael Wadleigh | | Format: DVD Release Date: 6/9/2009 | | Woodstock - DVD Review By: Pete Croatto - filmcritic.com DVD Reviews Published on: 5/29/2009 2:39 PM | |
The appeal of Woodstock isn't as a concert film, though there are some great performances that hold up 40 years later. The film is a historical document, representing the zenith of the peace and love movement of the 1960s, and music's integral role in that equation. If you were born in the '70s or '80s, your take on the 1960s might consist of news clips and cultural caricatures. Director Michael Wadleigh sets the record straight. For those whose musical history begins with Fall Out Boy, Woodstock was a three-day festival of "peace and music" held in upstate New York 40 years ago. All of the big musical acts of the day performed: Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jefferson Airplane, and The Who. read the full review

Troy (Directors Cut) (Blu-ray) | | | Starring: Peter O'Toole Brad Pitt Director: Wolfgang Petersen | | Format: Blu-Ray DVD Release Date: 9/18/2007 | User Rating: 1 | | Video Reviews Available: 1 | | Troy - DVD Review By: Sean O'Connell - filmcritic.com DVD Reviews Published on: 9/7/2007 4:44 PM
Troy leaves the talking to its triumvirate of Hollywood royalty Brian Cox, Brendan Gleeson, and Peter OToole. The dying is left up to the chiseled and marketable studs Eric Bana, Orlando Bloom, and Brad Pitt. Whenever a member of the veteran trio interacts with a member of the other on screen, it creates a mismatch of talent not even a Trojan Horse could overcome.

Halloween's Michael Myers has seen many incarnations during his 29-year reign of terror. While he hasn't yet seen the vastness of space (boldly not going where most horror franchises eventually go), he has met a similar fate -- the remake. Although the majority of horror moviegoers are just looking for the next gore-fest, true horror fans are as rabid as Christians looking to crucify the latest blasphemously-filmed story of Christ. Luckily, director Rob Zombie is a member of the horror genre cult and treats his Halloween remake with the utmost respect, while amping up the intensity for a post-Saw audience. read the full review

Lester | | Format: DVD Release Date: 9/18/2007 | | Commando (Director's Cut) - DVD Review By: Franck Tabouring - Cinema Blend DVD Reviews Published on: 9/24/2007 10:24 PM | | Commando is a great action film for so many reasons. One of course, is Arnold Schwarzenegger, who back in the 80's was celebrating the start of a glorious career as an action icon. He wonderfully masters his role as the tough colonel nobody should want to mess with, delivers compelling stunts, and most importantly, generates big laughs with some of the most hilarious one-liners in the history of over-the-top action extravaganzas. read the full review
