| | 2. Inside Man (Blu-ray) | | | Starring: Clive Owen Denzel Washington Director: Spike Lee | | Format: Blu-Ray DVD Release Date: 1/3/2010 | | Inside Man - Blu-Ray DVD Review By: Chris Beaumont - Blogcritics.org Reviews Published on: 6/1/2009 8:19 AM | | Along with my very late-blooming love for the cinema and my gravitation towards genre films, there are some filmmakers whose films I have never seen. One of those filmmakers is Spike Lee. When I saw Inside Man back in 2006 on the big screen I was finally able to say that I had seen a Spike Lee film. To this date, it remains the only one I have seen. I know, I know, that means there are a lot of quality movies that I have yet to see, a fact I hope to one day rectify. In any case, the heist film has arrived on Blu-ray and marks the first time I have seen the film since its big screen bow. read the full review | |

There's something dead in Denzel Washington's eyes nearly all of the way through Ridley Scott's American Gangster, which takes what should have been a mesmerizing slice of urban historical grit and grinds it into roughly two hours of standard issue cinema. Washington is playing Frank Lucas, a real-life crime boss who for a period lasting from the late 1960s into the following decade, ran Manhattan "from 110th to 155th, river to river." A real slick character who doesn't need to strut his worth on the street, Lucas hates flash like a junkie hates rehab: It reminds him of all he truly is but doesn't want to be. read the full review

Williams - Blogcritics.org Reviews Published on: 4/24/2007 9:28 AM | | Beginning with a horrific bombing of the New Orleans Canal Street Ferry, Déjà Vu is a visually intense movie. Reminiscent somewhat of the sci-fi plot, images and film techniques of Spielberg’s Minority Report, Tony Scott employs a combination of a high definition Genesis, Time Track, and Lydar cameras to create Déjà Vu. read the full review

I'll admit that the Civil War just isn't my choice of an afternoon. Between TNT's affinity of putting Gettysburg on every 4th of July and the love that multiple friends of mine seem to harbor for drawn out epics concerning the Civil War (either on film or in book), I just have gotten fairly sick and tired of seeing the Civil War on celluloid again and again. You pile on the fact that I had to change my phrasing to "the war of Northern aggression" whilst I was living in Raleigh, North Carolina and I just don't want to hear another thing for it. This said, you can see why Glory is a very special exception to my rule of antipathy towards war films with muskets in them. read the full review

It’s tough to imagine a movie star of Denzel Washington’s stature making a credible beleaguered everyman, but Washington does it in John Q. Unlike, say, Cary Grant, who always looked like the sharpest looking dude in Hollywood even when playing "regular guys," Denzel goes out of his way to ugly himself a bit, letting his hair grow a little unruly and adding on some chunky pounds. It’s not necessary in a film with as much big movie sheen as this one, but it shows Washington’s dedication – a trait that leaps off the screen, commands the movie, and pulls the entire audience in. read the full review
