Damn you Anne Rice! Even since you introduced that lovelorn supermodel turned bloodsucker Lestat, the vampire has been romanticized all out of proportion. Cold yet compassionate, sexy but spurned, the supposed supernatural monster has gone from corpse to Casanova in the twinkle of a dateless spinster's eye. Now comes Twilight, the latest entry in the continued compromising of the classic Stoker archetype. Aimed directly at the ADD-addled attention span of the average Facebooker, aside from being no fun at all, it stands as one of 2008's most crass commercial statements. read the full review

Nativity Story | | | Starring: Shohreh Aghdashloo Director: Catherine Hardwicke | | Format: DVD Release Date: 9/8/2009 | User Rating: 5 | | The Nativity Story - DVD By: Edward Perkis - Cinema Blend DVD Reviews Published on: 3/27/2007 1:25 AM | | The producers clearly hope that this movie will become a Christmas classic, reminding the faithful of the "true meaning" of the holiday. It may generate a regular showing on television simply because it stands alone as a feature film telling focusing on this momentous event. Plus, there are a few divine moments that are staged well. But when put together, the few well staged moments and good performances can't overcome the staid tone. read the full review

For those in the latter category, 7th Heaven is pure rapture. The show follows the alarmingly huge Camden family as they live, laugh, and love their way through their eventful, oft-complicated lives. The family’s patriarch is the Reverend Eric Camden (Stephen Collins). He is, of course, the senior minister at Glen Oak Community Church. Eric’s wife Annie (Catherine Hicks) helps hold it down on the home front. read the full review

| | 25. 40-Year-Old Virgin (Unrated-Full Frame) | | | Starring: Catherine Keener Steven Carell Director: Judd Apatow | | Format: DVD Release Date: 2/5/2008 | | The 40 Year-Old Virgin - DVD Review By: Josh Tyler - Cinema Blend DVD Reviews Published on: 5/31/2007 12:31 PM | | From the title you'd think The 40 Year-Old Virgin is a movie about sex, and yes that's certainly a part of it. But at its core, Virgin is really about friendship. The friendship between Andy and the other guys at SmartTech is the heart of this film, but when it starts out Andy Stitzer (Steve Carell) is a loner. He's not a loser really, he's simply living a quiet, lonely life. He fills his time with hobbies like videogames and action figure collection and why not, he has nothing better to do. He's alone, but he's not miserable. Not exactly. But in a way it's only because he doesn't know what he's missing. read the full review | |
