Richly populated with a wide variety of unique characters, not to mention a serial killer and lots of sexy vampires, Bon Temps, Louisiana is a decidedly interesting place in which to spend some time. Alan Ball's True Blood may not quite measure up to the triumph of his Six Feet Under, but it's as good a series as any HBO has put on the air since The Sopranos ended, and it's well worth a renewal or two. Based on a series of novels by Charlaine Harris, True Blood drops us into the weird world of Sookie Stackhouse (the energetic Anna Paquin), a young waitress who has ability to hear people's thoughts, a talent that annoys the hell out of her. read the full review

In The House Bunny, Anna Faris looks significantly more glammed up than when she came into movies as the star of Scary Movie. In that film, she was stuck in a poor man's Neve Campbell role by design -- a spoof of a minor star, a winking knockoff. Faris stayed through the franchise throughout four installments, and coming out the other side, she still plays bimbos and cast-offs like Shelley Darlington, a second-string Playboy bunny who has turned 27 without hitting centerfold, and is summarily ejected from the Playboy mansion. read the full review

Some people take their jobs way too seriously. Ronnie Barnhardt (Seth Rogan), head of security at a local shopping mall, is one of those people. Thus, when management receives reports about illicit activity occurring on the premises, he takes them very personally. Beside the complaints about a pervert exposing himself to women in the parking lot, after-hours robberies are taking place on a regular basis. Ronnie alerts his security staff to be on high alert, but all of their brains put together couldn't solve a three-letter crossword puzzle.

Fringe-Complete 1st Season (Blu-ray) | | | Starring: Anna Torv John Noble | | Format: Blu-Ray DVD Release Date: 1/26/2010 | | Fringe - The Complete First Season - Blu-Ray DVD Review By: Robert M. Barga - Blogcritics.org Reviews Published on: 10/5/2009 12:25 PM | | When The X-Files ended its nine-season stranglehold on the bizarre, it created a vacuum. In this void, hundreds of shows showed up and competed for the market on the strange, the odd, and the otherworldly, simply to recapture the glory days of X-Files. J.J. Abrams, fresh from Star Trek and Lost, decided that it was time to try to fill the emptiness once again. With this in mind, he created Fringe. Fringe is a show that follows FBI agent Olivia Dunham (Anna Torv), a crazy scientist named Walter Bishop (John Noble), and his son, Peter Bishop (Joshua Jackson), who happens to be good at everything. The trio head around the country, finding paranormal and odd activities, and then attempt to solve them. Pretty straightforward, right? read the full review

Anna Paquin's first starring role after stealing an Oscar for The Piano is the harmless family movie Fly Away Home. Following in the footsteps of countless family movies before it, Fly Away Home tries too hard to appeal to both children and their parents and ultimately loses much of its appeal to everybody.
In case you missed the movie's trailer, which provides a nice plot synopsis, Fly Away Home is about a teenage girl (Paquin) from New Zealand who moves in with her Canadian father (Jeff Daniels) after her mother dies. The young girl is utterly bored and lonely until she finds a family of young goose eggs (eventually geese) to take care of. read the full review

Those who have worked in food service know the challenges and difficulties the trade involves. They also know, as patrons, how to conduct themselves at a restaurant. More likely than not, they have observed a few incidences in which an employee at a restaurant — quite possibly themselves — has sought revenge on an especially difficult customer by tampering with the food in nasty, nauseating, stomach-churning ways, and they don’t want something similar to happen to them. read the full review

In Clerks II, uber-slacker Randal described the Lord of the Rings trilogy as a series of endless walks. Nothing but nonstop, pointless treks. One has to wonder what his reaction would be to the overwhelming ambulation in the two Chronicles of Narnia films. While The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe had origins and mythos to highlight, Disney's latest entry in the franchise, Prince Caspian, requires a more minimal setup. All returning director Andrew Adamson has to offer as a result is more shoe to footpath action, with the occasional CGI-sparked battle to break up the constant strolling. read the full review
