| | 21. Angels & Demons coming soon! | | | Starring: Tom Hanks Director: Ron Howard | | Format: DVD Release Date: 11/24/2009 | | Angels and Demons - DVD Review By: Sean O'Connell - filmcritic.com DVD Reviews Published on: 11/13/2009 6:42 PM | |
Slow and steady doesn't always win the race. Take Ron Howard's adaptations of Dan Brown's riveting bestsellers. Both The Da Vinci Code and its sequel, Angels and Demons, are competently made, commendably acted historical thrillers set against picturesque international backdrops. Yet for some reason, neither comes close to duplicating the urgent pacing of Brown's crackling source material. It annoys me to report this because, pacing aside, Angels is a good film that finds a better balance between exposition and action than its predecessor. (Too much talk turned Howard's Da Vinci into a snoozer.) read the full review

| | 24. Bourne Identity (HD) | | | Starring: Franka Potente Matt Damon Director: Doug Liman | | Format: High Definition DVD Release Date: 7/24/2007 | User Rating: 5 | | The Bourne Identity - DVD Review By: David Levine - filmcritic.com DVD Reviews Published on: 7/13/2007 8:07 PM | |
Last year, Christopher Nolan took memory loss to a new level with his masterful thriller Memento, in which the hero tattoos notes on his body to help him cope with his condition. This year, the amnesiac champion of The Bourne Identity uses brains and brawn as a means of sorting out his memory loss. Doug Liman directs Identity with the same degree of creativity as he demonstrated with Swingers and Go, despite some reportedly epic studio and script squabbles. This time, however, he works on a much grander scale. read the full review

| | 41. Breach (HD & DVD Combo) | | | Starring: Chris Cooper Ryan Phillippe Director: Billy Ray | | Format: High Definition DVD Release Date: 6/12/2007 | | Breach - DVD By: Rafe Telsch - Cinema Blend DVD Reviews Published on: 6/13/2007 | | Breach focuses on Eric O'Neil (Ryan Phillippe), a young man in the Federal Bureau of Investigations who is pushing to become an agent. Instead of the brash upstart character, O'Neil is portrayed as quite a nice guy. He credits his partners when he submits proposals for upgrades to FBI systems instead of taking all the credit for himself and potentially getting on a faster track. He honestly cares about serving his country, so it is with trepidation that he accepts a new assignment as an office clerk for Robert Hanssen, a former American spy on the Soviet Union. read the full review | |

| | 42. North By Northwest new! | | | Starring: Cary Grant Eva Marie Saint Director: Alfred Hitchcock | | Format: DVD Release Date: 11/3/2009 | | North By Northwest - DVD Review By: Jesse Hassenger - filmcritic.com DVD Reviews Published on: 10/23/2009 5:09 PM | |
It was with slight disappointment and definite surprise that I found, after years of intending to see it, Hitchcock’s North by Northwest coming in just under the top tier of his films. Watching Cary Grant hustle through a cross-country wrongly-accused thriller isn’t a bore, of course, but I felt the curious sensation of reacting to the film through a series of comparisons, trying to figure out where it fits on the Hitchcock scale: It’s not as disturbing as Psycho, not as suspenseful as Rear Window, not as mind-boggling as Vertigo. read the full review
