| | | You can't prepare for where the truth will take you. Features: DVD, Pan and Scan (TV Format), Widescreen, Aspect Ratio 2.35:1, Dolby Digital (5.1), Dolby Surround Sound, English, Subtitled Academy Award winner Nicolas Cage (Best Actor, Leaving Las Vegas, 1995) stars with Joaquin Phoenix and Katherine Keener in an electrifying thriller from the writer of Seven. Directed by Joel Schumacher (The Client, Batman Forever, A Time To Kill), this dramatic story follows one man’s obsessive search for the truth about a six-year-old crime – and his ultimate discovery of the truth about himself.
"A riveting, intelligent thriller highlighted by Joel Schumacher's dark shadows and Nicolas Cage's riveting performance. The darkest, most relentless thriller since Silence of the Lambs." Alex Simon, Venice Magazine "Thumbs up from me for this absorbing adult thriller. My thumb is jolted up. Joel Schumacher... finds a dark, frightening tone for the material." Roger Ebert, Siskel & Ebert
 Editor's Note
Nicholas Cage plays Tom Welles, a straight-laced surveillance specialist. His innocent, naive world begins to unravel when he is hired by the widow of an industrialist to investigate what she has shockingly discovered in her late husband's safe. It appears to be a snuff film of a young girl being murdered. In order to discover the truth, he must enter the city's seedy underworld, guided by porn-store clerk Max California (Joaquim Phoenix, LADDER 49).

| | Professional Reviews | San Francisco Examiner 0 of 10 The strength of 8MM comes partly from Cage's understated portrayal of... a family man with a genuine grimace at all the kinky things that pass for entertainment. But what really makes the film work is the great cast director Joel Schumacher has assembled around his star. Joaquin Phoenix has a particularly juicy role as a porn shop employee... This is not a movie for the squeamish, by any means. But for those who like their thrillers dark and their heroes a bit more complicated and flawed than the average shoot-without-a-blink type so prevalent in today's movies, 8MM fills the bill. - Craig Marine

5 of 5 Hauntingly realistic Saturday, February 12, 2000 A Viewer from Rapid City, SD
This movie delves into the deep, dark recesses of the human character. Everything within its body helps create the full atmosphere in which you are lead. The dark backgrounds and images further enhance its bleakness. Superb acting from all the main actors; Cage, Gandolfini, Stomare and Phoenix bring all the emotions that the mind can conjure. A perfect thriller whose conclusion will leave you on the edge of your seat. Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 Of course it's twisted.. Sunday, November 28, 1999 Steve from NC
I saw this movie on the big screen and loved every minute of it. Some think it is sick and twisted, of course it is. It disturbs those who have no desire to see the real trash that lives in our society today. Nicholas Cage does it again. It's a must see... Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Excellent movie with a great story line Friday, November 26, 1999 A Viewer from California
This movie can be gross at times, but it contains great acting by Nicholas Cage. It is really suspenseful especially when you see some of the movie one day and the rest of the movie the next day. It was great and I liked it. To some, it may be sickening but it was well written and produced. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Wonderful Change Monday, November 01, 1999 Dave from South Bend, IN
I saw this movie in the theaters. It was a great change to the mindless ooze that was currently playing. This movie shows what our current society and morals are. It was a great movie. Plus you can't beat Cage!! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 If you liked Seven Thursday, October 28, 1999 Alan from Cedar Rapids, IA
you'll like this one. Not surprisingly they have the same writer. This is a descent into the darkest side of obsession. Well acted and not overly graphic, but definately not for children. 'When you dance with the devil, devil don't change, devil change Was this review helpful?
1 of 5 Sick and twisted Tuesday, September 21, 1999 A Viewer from San Diego, CA
This is the sickest, most disgusting movie I have ever seen. The characters in this movie are twisted to a degree I never imagined possible. I had no desire to enter the world of those who find extreme graphic violence (to the point of butchering and murdering a young girl on film) erotic. I'm discouraging everyone I know from seeing this movie. I wish someone had warned me! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Most disturbing Saturday, September 18, 1999 Freddy Megawatt from There is no cow level St, Starcraft
Do not let your children watch this film! It is a most disturbing and sensational film. It shows the society's darkest corners, and the most disturbed people you could ever imagine. Nicholas Cage's performance is excellent, to say the least. The plot is one of the best ones I have ever seen. This is something every person should buy and watch. Was this review helpful?

As usual Nicholas Cage gives a brilliant performance, a somewhat disturbing movie, definantly not for kids, Cage should get an Oscar nomination for this one. Was this review helpful?
