Product Guides
For more than 20 years, users have relied on Kingston Technology to help them save millions by extending the life of existing computers with memory upgrades. Now Kingston® introduces its second-generation SSDNow V Series drive to help organizations of all sizes and consumers enhance the performance of computers with a Serial ATA (SATA) interface and thus extend their lifecycle.
Adding a solid-state drive to a desktop already using a standard hard disk drive is a smart and efficient way to upgrade. Transferring the operating system and applications from the HDD to the SSD allows the solidstate drive to be used as a bootable drive that takes full advantage of the speed of the Flash-based technology. The SSD and the HDD then co-exist to drive optimal performance in the upgraded desktop.
For notebooks, SSDNow drives are a perfect replacement for hard drives, resulting in faster, more reliable performance. Making this change will improve a notebook’s efficiency in a wide range of tasks, from booting up to running the most robust operating system and demanding applications.
SSDNow uses a standard SATA interface but, unlike a regular HDD, SSD is very rugged and built with no moving parts, making it ideal for power users and road warriors who push the limits of their notebooks. Other benefits include reduced power usage, less noise and less heat generation.
SSDNow V Series drives offer performance gains and power consumption reductions at a fraction of the cost of a new system. For added peace of mind, they’re backed by 24/7 tech support, a three-year warranty and legendary Kingston reliability.

4.7 of 5 Fantastic Hard Drive 8/21/2010
Chris from Los Angeles CA
This is a great Solid State Drive, I installed it into my 15 inch MacBook Pro. It's super fast as expected and for the price there doesn't seem to be anything out there which compares.

5 of 5 Performance gains 8/21/2010
Lance from Salmon, ID
Installed Win 7-64 bit on this SSD. Boot time changed from 75 sec to 45 sec. Some apps open quicker. What I really appreciate is no noise. Trim feature works. Radyboost was disabled as it should be.

4.3 of 5 Faster than Hard Drives 2/26/2010
chromal from Evergreen, CO
My Win7_RC was set to expire and go into nag-mode March 1st, and so it was finally time to install that half-price pre-ordered copy I picked up last August. I figured that as long as I was going through the trouble of an OS reinstall, I might as well leverage the benefit of SSD storage at the same time and kill two birds with one stone.
Although the earlier editions of this drive series included the much-lambasted JMicron 602B, this unit includes a Jmicron 618 and is one of the first drives to launch with Win7 trim support built-in. My old storage system consisted of a RAID10 array of Hitachi Deskstar 300GB 7200RPM drives, which had satisfactory performance, but the four drives produced a lot of heat and so on.
Win7 installation on the SSD drive was completely straightforward and I did not need to do anything for trim support. fsutil confirmed 'DisableDeleteNotify' was 0, and the system defragmenting software omits the SSD.
As far as performance, well, it's fast. It's faster than my 7.2K RPM RAID10, and it's faster than 150BB WD Raptor 10K RPM RAID1 drives I've seen.
Win7 boots to the login screen in under 15 seconds, application installation progress bars rip across the screen in moments. Loading computer game levels, for example, Left4Dead2 campaigns, was fast even before it was ReadyBoost'd; this thing smokes all HDD-based systems I've ever seen. I've only been running in for two or three days, but as far as an OS+Apps C: drive, the difference between this and hard drives is night and day, and the difference between this and more expensive SSDs is money in your pocket. Is it the fastest SSD money can buy? No. Is it faster than any HDD on the market? Oh god yes.
