The Ultra RangePlus Wireless-N Broadband Router is really three devices in one box. First, there's the Wireless Access Point, which lets you connect to the network without wires. There's also a built-in 4-port full-duplex 10/100 Switch to connect your wired-Ethernet devices together. Finally, the Router function ties it all together and lets your whole network share a high-speed cable or DSL Internet connection.
The Access Point built into the Router uses the very latest wireless networking technology: Wireless-N (draft 802.11n). By overlaying the signals of multiple radios, Wireless-N's "Multiple In, Multiple Out" (MIMO) technology multiplies the effective data rate. Unlike ordinary wireless networking technologies that are confused by signal reflections, MIMO actually uses these reflections to increase the range and reduce "dead spots" in the wireless coverage area. The robust signal travels farther, maintaining wireless connections much farther than standard Wireless-G.
With Wireless-N, the farther away you are, the more speed advantage you get. It works great with standard Wireless-G and -B equipment, but when both ends of the wireless link are Wireless-N, the router can increase the throughput even more by using twice as much radio band, yielding speeds far faster than standard Wireless-G. But unlike other speed-enhanced technologies, Wireless-N can dynamically enable this double-speed mode for Wireless-N devices, while still connecting to other wireless devices at their respective fastest speeds. In congested areas, the "good neighbor" mode ensures that the Router checks for other wireless devices in the area before gobbling up the radio band.
To help protect your data and privacy, the Router can encode all wireless transmissions with industrial-strength 256-bit encryption. It can serve as your network's DHCP Server, has a powerful SPI firewall to protect your PCs against intruders and most known Internet attacks, and supports VPN pass-through. Configuration is a snap with the web browser-based configuration utility.
The incredible speed of Wireless-N makes it ideal for media-centric applications like streaming video, gaming, and Voice over IP telephony, and gives you plenty of headroom to run multiple media-intense data streams through the network at the same time, with no degradation in performance. With the Linksys Wireless-N Broadband Router at the center of your home or office network, you can share a high-speed Internet connection, files, printers, and multi-player games, and run media-intensive applications at incredible speeds, without the hassle of stringing wires!

4 of 5 Very short range 8/21/2010
Michael from Centennial, CO
The router set up easily and worked well with one major drawback...its range was very short. I will use it as an access point as my 4 year old pre-N router has much better range even though the speed is slower than this unit. In summary, great router that was easy to set up and run, HOWEVER, the broadcast range was very disappointing.

4.3 of 5 Excellent product ... with DD-WRT firmware 5/1/2010
John from Mpls, MN
I've had this refurbished router for about a week. At first everything seemed to be going smoothly with the included Linksys firmware but after a couple days I started noticing problems: speed wasn't great, signal strength was only around 80% (disappointing after my old WRT54G2 always had a signal near 100%), and my connection was dropped a couple times. So I followed what seemed to be the online consensus and replaced the default firmware with firmware from DD-WRT. The install process actually wasn't as confusing as the "peac*ck thread" made it out to be, but I do recommend reading everything to make sure you understand what you're doing. Now my connection is fast, strong, and stable.
Bottom line: A great deal if you're willing to flash your firmware to a third-party option.

4.7 of 5 Good Value for Money 3/26/2010
Kazi from Smyrna, GA
I received this router yesterday and within no time I was able to set it up with no issues. I have one Windows 7 laptop and one XP and both are running without any issues. I was little hesitant to buy this refurbish router but so far there are no issue....I'm hoping it will continue function the same way.

1.7 of 5 Review is for 'working' products 2/27/2010
VG from Somerville, NJ
Bought this as a first trial of using 'refurbished' item in my life and am really disappointed! The product actually doesn't works at all. I am not sure why they even bother to market it (maybe for the shipping company sake!)
This lights on this product did start glowing right away out-of-the-box (one point in Ease of Use) and when I tried connecting to the wireless network Linksys (default) it got connected without any hassle (One point in Ease of use). Finally, when I connected the Internet cable onto the router, the link started establishing stable connection (one more point in Ease of use).
That's it! Tried opening a website and nothing came up!

5 of 5 Dont Hesitate 2/16/2010
from Denver, CO
Dont hesitate to buy this because it is refurbished. I purchased it, it arrived in brand new condition, setup was a snap, and it works flawlessly. Some reviews on other sites state that the refurb product crashes constantly and requires frequent reboots, not the case with the one i received. Granted our house is small with only a few rooms, but I have not any problems with connectivity or range, even in the back yard.

4.7 of 5 Very pleased with purchase 12/28/2009
from Chandler, AZ
Great value, cannot tell the difference from new.
Set it to a mode compatible (WEP) with the old Linksys G router I was replacing, and all but one device (PC laptops, Mac, iPhone, iPod Touch, Xbox wireless extender, Wii, Kodak wireless frame, 2 Linksys wireless bridges) were able to transfer to the new router without additional work. Only my wireless N enabled netbook needed a special setting.
I really like the Easylink Advisor that shows a graphic of all devices that are connected to the router.

2.3 of 5 Burned up before I could try it! 11/1/2009
from NC
I read many reviews on this router and looked like a good one. A new one might still be really good. I bought a refurbished model to save a few bucks and hooked up the wires and power cord. Everything seemed to be working properly until it just died. When I tried to reset it I noticed it smelled like an electrical short. Time in use: 6 min approx. If you are considering this model opt for new, refurbished computer equippment just isn't worth the risk.
