4 of 5 Excellent Product Monday, February 15, 2010
A Customer from Dallas, Texas

This product is worth for the money. At the basic level, it is letting me to win. Some times without the manual, it is hard to play. I am trying to teach my 7 year old daughter. If I am not around, she is having trouble. Needs more training to understand. Apart from that it is a great product.

5 of 5 Lots of fun! Wednesday, December 09, 2009

This chess board will impress your friends! Just don't expect it to know what piece is on the board, pieces don't have RFID tags. So if you mess up and switch pieces during a game, or just remove it from the board, it wouldn't know, it will just keep moving the magnets. You need to make sure all pieces are in right position on the board or on the side of the board before letting machine handle them. Overall, this game is fun!

3 of 5 Not worked for me Tuesday, June 16, 2009
Sunil from Morrisville, NC
I got this product for 79.99 at Buy.com. Very happy to place the order because I was tracking this item to buy from its price being as high as $149.99. The chess pieces disappointed me because they were very light and did not behave exactly as desired to be moved. The Intructions did not mention what to do when such thing happens, I tried resetting but then more pieces were behaving abnormally. Reading previous reviews, I understand that it may be only the issue with my board, but still have to mention it for future buyers. I returned the whole thing to buy.com and am waiting for an exchange item to arrive.

5 of 5 Amazing value and very educational Wednesday, January 07, 2009
Hamish from San Francisco, CA
I bought the Phantom Force chess machine for my 7 year old son, who is just learning. It works perfectly in engaging him in a real game against a computer with a physical chess board, without him having to interpret lights telling him which pieces to move or commands on a screen. For him, it's the same experience as playing a person, which is the whole idea. You can "dumb down" the machine to the lowest level so that it makes stupid mistakes (it sacrificed its queen for a pawn this week) which is perfect for allowing my son to experiment with strategy and experience the feeling of checkmate and winning against an opponent who doesn't put up much of a fight. When his confidence and skills build, we can gradually turn up the machine's skill level so it grows with him. This is a much better solution than daddy constantly beating him, or daddy having to act dumb to let him win, or daddy having to start without half his pieces. For me also there's something a little magical about watching the pieces move themselves - it's just more fun than playing on a computer screen or moving the machine's pieces yourself. You may see some reviews complaining about the noise it makes, but that's just bogus. It only makes a noise when it's moving pieces, then it's silent while you (or it) are thinking. It just adds to the charm of the machine for me, I have to admit I love the thing. I marked the machine 4 out of 5 on durability as it doesn't *seem* very robust, but it hasn't had any kind of malfunction or breakdown so far so this may be unfair. If you want to get a young child into playing computer chess in the most realistic, easy, and engaging way possible, or you just want to enjoy playing computer chess in a more realistic way yourself, this machine is perfect, and at $99 it's unbelievably priced.
