Two of my friends and I recently purchased a total of three identical sets of these (6 handsets total) for our ski trip to Copper Mountain, CO in mid January 2009. For what we paid, I think we got our money's worth.
The Good: You can set all the radios to the same GMRS channel (don't use FRS) and then scramble the channel with the same code on each so your conversations are private. This will allow you to use GMRS without an FCC license and without much risk of someone listening in to find you.
The Bad: As is true with most radios, expect to get a small fraction of the actual range advertised. We stayed in a ski in/ski out condo right on the slope and could hear each other between the condo and most of the runs from the lift above us, but not so much a mile or so away. Granted, it was snowing most of the time.
TIP: If you expect to be in cold/wet weather, spend the extra money on the secret service earpiece. Two of us did not and just used the Janet Jackson earpiece which comes with the radios and each of us experienced failures with one of the microphones in our respective sets. The guy who bought two secret service earpieces had no issues under the same weather conditions (22F and snowing). Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Very nice equipment Friday, December 26, 2008 Dave from Warrenton, Mo
The instructions are very usefull but a bit cluttered and the GMRS license to use all channels was not in the initial literature but easily enough attained.
Have been used at the farm already and very comforting to know you do not need be in line of site to gain response or help. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Good Value Tuesday, December 09, 2008 Rich from Boron, CA
These work very good and they come with all the things that one might want, but I did not use the boom mics. For the money you cant go wrong. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 head set sucks Monday, November 03, 2008 Gary from Youngstown Ohio
Needs a better head set. If you have a big head you should plan on buying a better head set,the one supplied is NOT vary adjustable, but the rest of the two way radio set was still a good value Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Works great! Tuesday, October 14, 2008 A Customer from Austin, Texas
I use these radios for airsofting. Got to use them yesterday at a skirmish and they worked flawlessly. Transmissions were heard loud and clear and other members were able to understand me as well. Was compatible with everyone else's radios also, including other Midland models, some Motorolas and a Saber.
The area I was in consisted of alot of trees, hills, buildings, and various obstacles. Good range, good price, great product!
Only thing I didn't like about them are the headsets it comes with, they aren't very secure and move around alot. You also have to speak directly into the mic or the transmission will be very faint. Was this review helpful?

4 of 5 Better than Cobra products Friday, October 03, 2008 Christa S. from Muncy, PA
Overall, this product is good. The maximum range I have been able to get out of them is 1.5 miles, but we really haven't tried them any further than that. They're definitely better than the Cobra radios we had. Also, the weather scanner is a nice feature. I would recommend this product - the money is worthwhile. Was this review helpful?
