5 of 5 Great sound, low price Sunday, March 01, 2009 A Customer from Atlanta, GA
I am quite new to the earphone market, so i was not sure what to expect from these. I own a pair of full sized Senn 555's, so i am basing my review off that. The Denon's were almost up to par with the Senn 555's in terms of bass response and smoothness, but the Senn 555 were definitely more responsive in the mids and highs. In the Denon's the highs were slightly rolled off, and the mids were not as defined as the hd 555's. But for half the price, and one hundredth the size, these earphones are a great product for a beginnning audiophile. Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 Great headphones - terrific sound and range Saturday, February 14, 2009 KWA from Dublin, OH
I have been using a pair of V-Moda headphones for a while but grew increasingy dissatisfied with their bass response and overall sound. Buy.com had these on sale so I thought I would try them. WOW! The overall sound range seems much better than the $100 V-Moda headphones for half the price! The bass is defiitely better and clearer. The overall sound is richer and fuller. I didn't realize what had been missing. For the price, these are absolutely a strong competitor against any of the $100 range headphones I've owned, which includes the Bose, Shure and JBL products. Having owned each of the $100 to $150 products from each of these manufacturers, I would take the Denons over all of them. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Clean, balanced & open Saturday, January 24, 2009 Spingle from Barrington RI
While there's nothing here that screams "fantastic sound" I think these are a very good value overall. They are quite comfortable and the sound is both balanced and open: bass is solid but not overwhelming, highs are crisp. Build quality is solid: neither too wimpy nor too robust, so wires & phones handle easily. Like most in-ear phones they provide some sound isolating characteristics that mask exterior noise -- though not perfectly. These seem particularly good with classical, vocal and acoustic music, though not restrictively so. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 A gift for my wife Monday, January 05, 2009 Richard from Redding, CA
I bought denon C351 at Target for my wife. I came back and did a little more research on line and found the C551 for about $10 more than I paid for the other. My wife is very happy with the sound and quality. She doesn't have to turn the volume up as high with these ear buds to get the sound quality she wants. Very happy with this product. 4 of 5 A worthwile upgrade to OEM headphones Saturday, December 20, 2008 A Customer from Wichita, KS
Pros
- Punchy bass
- Depth of sound is amazing ||
Cons
- Midrange sound gets muddy sometimes ||
I use these phones with an Archos 5. They replace a $20 Sony in-ear pair that I use at my work PC instead. Compared to the Sony in-ear units, they're excellent, but don't expect them to rival closed-ear studio monitor sets in terms of sonic clarity.
The drivers can take a lot of power and the sound can certainly deafen you.
If you demand more from your portable audio than lower-tier sets provide, this is a nice midpriced upgrade that you won't regret. Just don't expect perfection. Was this review helpful?
1 of 5 Disappointing Wednesday, December 17, 2008 A Customer from New York, NY
I bought these headphones hoping that the Denon name meant a quality product. But these headphones are very poorly designed.
First of all, they do not stay in my ears. I've tried the different sized ear pads but none stay in. Part of the problem is the cord.
The cord is very short -- to short to reach any pocket other than a shirt pocket. The headphones come with an extension cable which is a bit too long. The extension cable is designed with a heavy (relatively) female jack for the headphones which ends up pulling down on the cable and pulling the headphones out of your ears.
The combination of the poorly designed ear pieces along with the poorly designed cabling dooms this product and creates for a very frustrating commute. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great Earphones Tuesday, November 04, 2008 George from Chicago, IL
Great earphones, sounds great compared to my old earphones, diffinitely an upgrade. You can hear all the highs and midrange clearly. The bass is as good as you're going to get with in ear phones. If you are not comfortable having ear plugs, these are not for you. Was this review helpful?
