Great product and great price. Item is definitely portable and easy to use. I have used it on multiple computers with no problems at all and included software is a snap. Fits in my purse as advertised and very lightweight. Compared to the external hard drives that are bulky-i have one of those and the portable usage is not so easy.

Plugged the usb cable to it and my compaq laptop and BINGO!!! Windows Vista recognized it instantly, and 2 minutes later I did my first successful backup. FANTASTIC little product, and Buy was superb to deal with!!

Sata drive inside was a perfect fit for the laptop. it was the cheapest drive for the job ... and I got a cable and an enclosure to boot. Cool. Fast shipment, well packaged, just as advertised.

This is a awesome little hard drive. It is quiet and fast. You can put you movie, music, and what ever else you need and it will do the work with no problems. Only thing I with it had was a case. it is a portable hard drive with a glossy case that can get small scratches easy.

Performs as stated and appears to be reliable. 160 gb is more than enough capacity for a portable storage device even though at this time the capacity is considered as minimal in light of the ever increasing capacities of portable hard drives. How high is up ?

Pros: Small size, easy to plug in and access. Reasonably faster and no noise. Fast shipment from Buy.com Cons: WD Sync annoys me, Cannot stop/eject the external USB HDD from Windows. I always end up pulling it out without ejecting. Might be adding up to my Registry entries. I just got this a couple of weeks ago. So can't vouch for the reliability and durability yet. I have used similar products and they have been very impressive.

I own two WD 160 GB USB hard drives. One backs up my laptop; the other, the desktop. I've also given others as gifts. 3rd party software manages the backup process, and all has gone seamlessly. The drive performed right out of the box. I have not precisely timed how long a backup requires, but a guess would be 15 minutes. Start it and forget about it. Even though the HD of the desktop is twice the size, it is less than 1/2 full so there's not a problem. The drive comes pre-loaded with WD software which I have not explored or used. The USB cable is a straight cable about 12" long. Depending on your setup you may wish the cable was a bit longer. On the other hand, a short cable helps keep the desktop neat. The surface finish of the drive is shiny black plastic. It lends a kind of Star Wars look, but it also reveals every fingerprint, scratch or bit of dust. I would prefer a matte finish, but it's not worth complaining about. The blue drive indicator light is located in one edge of the unit instead of on the top. It may be hard to see unless the drive is positioned properly. I don't have any MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures) data for the drive, and do not have enough operational hours to judge its long term dependability. But as a cost effective way to perform monthly backups, so far it seems fine. If you have never backed up your computer before (and I had not) there is an interesting sense of relief the first time you realize that losing the HD of your primary computer would no longer be a disaster.

I needed it for photo projects mainly. It connects without problem, is slim and nice-looking, and works well. No installation is needed - or, more accurately, no involvement from your part - just plug it in USB port and you are ready to go. Reasonably fast as well.

I did not reformat like most others seem to do to NTFS. It fits my needs for back up of my laptop perfectly. I have been very pleased with its operation. I cannot hear it, it only gets slightly warm (hardly noticeably). Access times are fine, I actually play mp3's and read e-Books from it. This is very easy to install and use. Just connect the drive to your USB port with the provided cable and it is plug-n-play. I just drag the files I want onto the portable drive icon. It comes with software that will allow back ups and sync files. But I never even tried the provided software. I am happy with the way I use it so I cannot talk to how well the provided software works. I would rather continue to just drag files onto the icon of the drive, delete that software and use the extra space. I have a five-year-old Toshiba Satellite with a speaker system that includes a USB hub. I tired connecting the cable to the hub, but noting happened. But when I directly connected to a USB on the laptop everything worked perfect. There was no need for any additional purchase. The drive worked well with single USB connector supplied. I am very happy with this and it easily stores in one of the pockets of my laptop case.

I bought this portable drive for myself after my fiance' bought hers. The price was good for its value. The only issue I have with these is that you lose about 11gb after all is said and done with drive installation. I figure that if you say it's a 160gb capacity, then that's what it should be after all installation programs are done. However... 149gb of storage is still good. Just wish I had the 11gb of space that is taken up. Overall.. a good portable 1st time external storage drive.

I bought this unit as a replacement for an older external hard drive which quit after several years. With this new external hard drive I am impressed with its small size and ease of installation. I can't hear it operate at all! It was super easy to install (plug and play with no problem) and I like that no plug in power adapter is needed; just plug it into a USB port! I love it! What a bargain! I should have bought two!

The passport was easy to use and set up for all my computers using OS X Leopard. Very small and quiet. Used it with Suoer duper to clone my hard drive, booted up like a champ.

I gave the drive a 2 but that does not get posted. Worked great at first but then fell 18" from the top of my computer to the carpeted floor and that was all she wrote. Ultimately took it apart. It is an SATA drive with a USB conversion card. The drive is not sturdy enough for critical data.

The device has a white indicator light that shows when USB power is connected. I have used it on 5 computers in my house and it has worked perfectly with all. Two are laptops, 3 are desktops and operating systems include Vista, XP and Ubuntu linux. The speed is very reasonable for a USB device. Over all great buy.

The 160 meg USB drive is small enough to carry anywhere with my laptop. It weighs next to nothing and since there is no need to carry a power cord, it works anywhere.

The first thing I did was reformat it for my Mac. Being it needs power, it must be plugged into the computer direct, not the keyboard. Haven't used it enough to comment on its speed or performance.

I'm one of those people who, once they get a new toy, pushes their new thing to the max. So as soon as I got my Passport, I reformatted it (to get some more space) then loaded all my music and documents from years past onto it. I've had many an external hard drive and believe you me, this one is fast. The size alone impresses me, but along with every thing else this little drive knocks me off my heels. The sleek, tiny drive earned the title "Tiny Music Box" and received the job of serving up my music, wherever I might be. It is an awesome drive and if you are in the market for a new one, this should be the one you choose.

I bought this to do daily backups of the data on my laptop. This drive is perfect! I've always liked the quality of Western Digital products, which is why I went with this brand. The drive is small and quiet, and fast. It doesn't take long to do a lot of copying of files. The only things I don't like are the short USB cable that comes with it (I wish it was longer) and the software that comes with it is only sync software and not fit for backing up data. I just created backup directories on the drive and copy the files over using Windows Explorer. This drive works well with Windows Vista Home Premium and it was all plug-and-play. These drives are a nice, affordable way to keep data backed up.

I have purchased backup devices in the past only to get really frustrated with the lack of user-friendly interfaces. This one is a snap and transfering the new data to a second competer is just a few clicks away. Much better than carrying my laptop to school every day.

I'm new at external hard drives (this is our first one) so took me a while to figure out how they work. It seems to work fine and download quickly. I hope to have more time to work with it in the future. Took a bit longer to arrive than expected (within the suggested time, however) and seemed to be fine when it arrived. We like the small size!!

The 160GB PPort Drive is perfect. It is small, light and easy to carry. I am using it to back up 3 laptops and it is easy to use. I setup 3 different profiles and synchronized, now all I do is plug it in, enter in the profile and I have a perfect back up. I have even backed up my email which was not the original purpose. I can work off the drive and then re-synchronize if I need to. The initial backup took a little time but now it is fast and easy. Excellent value for the money, you cannot go wrong for 160GB for less than $80.

Plug and play simplicity makes this compact unit perfect for travelers with laptops. USB power means no need to search for a power cord. Hard to beat the price, at least for now. Of course you'll be able to get twice the capacity for the same price in 6 months. If you need instruction you won't find any.

We've previously bought other small backup drives and my evaluation of this one is in comparison to the others. Has less capacity than other models for same or less money. Cheesy plastic case. Included single USB connector cable is INADEQUATE LENGTH ..twelve inches and may not carry sufficient power (see other reviews). We ignored the included backup software and use SyncBack freeware on all our office and personal units.

Unfortunately it often gets disconnected with my laptop because of so-called unstable power supply from the laptop. Fortunately the customer service is good; she offered me a free USB double cable to resolve the problem.

This is a very slick portable HDD. My last attempt to get an external HDD handed me a bulky piece with a even bulkier power adapter and an extra USB cable with a power oN switch..Do you see where I am going. This one is jst plug and play. Unplug and keep in your pocket. As simple as it can be.

Great little drives, however of the three that I own, 2 periodically start "clicking" and fail. (Ok and to be be honest, I can't find the third one). I need to pull out the warrantee info to see how to send back to WD before the 3 yr is up. Reformatted one w/Apple OS and use the other w/FAT32 but don;t use the windows software that shipped on the drive as I primarily use with a Mac Book Pro for backing up image files. Based on all the other reviews this isn't a common problem though.

I love this little beauty! It's compact enough to stick into my purse, it's easy to use by only having one cord from the computer to the passport (which comes with it) and it holds everything nicely. I have had no problems at all with hooking it up or reviewing files that are stored on it. Very nice!

When purchasing this product, I was just looking for the most affordable, smallest capacity portable hard drive i could find. I've always had good experience with WD hard drives. This one is great; it has a great design, which helps it's bonus "cool" factor. It's a snap to use. My only complaint is that I've found it to be rather slow (especially it's write speeds). Other than that, it works great.

Portable is the way to go even though more expensive than the same capacity in a non portable. Regardless, this WD with 160 GB was a great value at $75 and free shipping. Of even more importance, it works like a charm and couldn't be more simple to operate. Back up the files and into the fire proof safe for real protection. Transfer the files easily into another computer. Buy.Com delivered what was ordered and it arrived on time. That's the way it has been with all the many products I have purchased from them.

I found the drive easy to install and work with! However, WD should write some instructions. The passport is a daily backup source for my office. I can take back in forth in my purse.

I have only Pros for this Great Drive... No Cons! Actually I use 4 Passport drives in my business and never have had a failure. As far as I'm concerned my data on any one of my Passports is safe and secure!
