3 of 5 15 minutes to Failure Wednesday, January 13, 2010
Bill from Mendota, IL

The first drive delivered failed within 15 minutes. Buy.com was excellent in getting the drive replaced, but by the time the replacement drive arrived, the time to file for the $20 rebate had expired. There are four external hard drives connected to my Mac, and the Cavalry is the only one which will occasionally self-disconnect. Note, it is connected directly to the Mac while the others are through a hub. While this drive will go to sleep properly, when shutting down, the Cavalry drive won't spin down unless it is turned off. With all of the drives available, next time, I'll choose a different brand.

5 of 5 So far, works fine & holds alot Saturday, May 30, 2009
Mario Giacuccia from Eureka, CA
This drive is a bottomless pit. I bought it in Feb 2008. I use it EVERYDAY and store thousands of photos & folders on it. Hasn't made much of a dent. Runs & performs well, may be a little slow at rare times. But haven't had any problems. If the file doesn't show up on my computer when I need to use it, it's because I have to remove some spyware that got onto my system. Otherwise it always operates. I may be buying a second one for a gift.

5 of 5 So far, exceeds expecatations Wednesday, March 04, 2009
Matt from Ballston Spa, NY
Hooked this up to an iMac (pre-intel processor, OS X Leopard); time capsule quickly formatted it and I've had no problems since. I do believe you get what you pay for, so I'm expecting this thing to fail prematurely, but getting a 1TB drive for $100 is hard to beat.

5 of 5 After 1 year... Monday, March 02, 2009
trent from New Jersey
I bought two of these in Jan 2008. They are a nice solid drive. They both run kinda hot to the touch, but it hasn't affected performance. I think it's because the drives inside both of mine are western digital. WD drives have always been hot in my experience. I wish the price had been this low when I bought mine.

5 of 5 If you need a lot of storage space, BUY THIS !!! Thursday, January 15, 2009
Larry from Amargosa Valley, Nevada
I purchased this to store pictures, music and videos. The videos, as well as the music play right from this drive. It's plenty fast. It's a lot of storage for an excellent price with the rebate. It is truly plug & play on my XP computer and was immediately recognized. I plugged it into a seven port USB hub plugged into the back of my computer. No installation neccessary. It couldn't be easier. I don't run it all the time... Only when I want to use it. It does generate some heat and gets pretty warm to the touch after running for several hours. I'm not sure of the long-term effect of this. I've had if for about a month, now. I would recommend it and would buy it again.

3 of 5 Serious Confusion at the warehouse Wednesday, January 07, 2009
a Cunningham from Henderson, Nevada
My CAUM with "One Touch Backup" came in a carton that identified it as a CAUM model but with no mention of the OTB feature on the carton (it WAS on the invoice and original ad). INSIDE this carton was another carton which claimed to contain a CAUE model with both USB 2.0 and SATA II data transfer. INSIDE this carton was a drive with a UPC sticker on it that identified it as in fact a CAUM but without the button on the back for OTB and without a connector that might be used for the SATA II connection. If I had bought it for the OTB feature I would have been VERY disappointed. But I didn't, and the hassle of getting it replaced properly no doubt left the warehouse with the impression that the confusion passed muster. Otherwise I was quite satisfied. In actual use on my 1 Ghertz cpu it transfers files at about one Gigabyte per 15 minutes.

5 of 5 Very nice drive. Amazingly Quiet. Tuesday, January 06, 2009
Darrenmv from Baton Rouge, LA
What impresses me most about this drive is how quiet it is. It is virtually silent. I also like the size of the enclosure, it is very small compared to my Western Digital external drives. I would recommend this drive to anyone looking for extra storage.

5 of 5 Very good Hard Drive for the value Sunday, January 04, 2009
A Customer from Sunnyvale, CA
I have bought this hard disk a month ago and since then I have been using it to store my personal videos. It has been performing very good and I am very pleased with this hard disk. Since it is an external hard disk, I keep connecting this to a different machine and it is convenient to view the files.

4 of 5 Love the capacity, but works only on 1 USB port Friday, December 05, 2008
Fred from Placerville, CA
As prices come down I purchase larger capacity drives, which prompted me to get this one. As soon as I got it, I plugged it into one of 6 USB ports in back of my Dell Dimension 8400 desktop. The computer made the familiar tone when a new device is plugged into it, but could not find the drive. After trying a bunch of things, I plugged it into one of two USB ports in front and it worked fine. I have 4 other USB external drives hooked up in back, including another Cavalry drive, and they all work fine. So I'm stuck keeping this one plugged into the front USB, which is a shame, as I use the drive for backups and storage, and would like the cables to be out of the way. Otherwise, for $105 I'm happy with the high capacity, the speed is OK, it's more compact than my other drives and it runs quiet.

5 of 5 Don't use the included software Monday, December 01, 2008
A Customer from Hays, KS
It's a pretty decent external drive. It is very quiet since there is no fan, and it didn't seem to put off a lot of heat. As others have stated it is a Western Digital hard drive inside -- not a strange off brand. My computer running Vista 64-bit had no trouble recognizing the drive and it was truly plug and play. I attempted use of the included software but it was horrible. When trying to check the folders to include in a copy, it kept reloading since (I assume) it detected changes on my main drive. That made it virtually impossible to choose the folders I wanted to copy. After much frustration with that software, I installed Norton Ghost which is working beautifully on a scheduled backup every night.

4 of 5 It's a 931 MB mass storage device.... Sunday, November 30, 2008
Hojo from Severn, MD
See Subject... I've seen better prices on this device, but I needed it bad! So far, so good... one helluva sized power pack though. You would think that WD would get with the program and make powerpacks more "powerstrip friendly"...

5 of 5 Great Value Tuesday, September 02, 2008
Jason from Atlanta, GA
Great external drive, I was very impressed with the quality of this drive. I was a little worried at first since I have never heard of Calvary but I couldn't pass up the price. The hdd in the enclosure is actually a Western Digital drive that came pre-formatted in NTFS. The hdd worked as advertised on my Windows XP laptop. I would recommend this drive to anyone.

5 of 5 Decent drive for the money Wednesday, August 27, 2008
A Customer from Leominster, MA
Have not used it extensively yet but works reasonably well. I have other external iTB drives from other manufacturers and this one performs comparably. My rating for this drive takes a little hit for value because I actually found it cheaper a week later. Others have reported problems with the drive itself, so far no issues for me. Its a good buy in my book.

5 of 5 Works Good Monday, August 25, 2008
A Customer from Laguna Beadch, CA
I bought this drive about 3 weeks ago for my backups on Vista. I do a complete backup every night and the drive runs 24/7. I plugged it in and the computer found it without any problems, no need to format, it was ready to go. I have done over 20 backups without any problems, and verified a couple of them to make sure it was working properly.

4 of 5 Solid, stable external... Monday, August 25, 2008

Not a whole lot else to say. Mostly limited by being USB instead of eSATA, but I bought it for $139, so I'm not complaining. Otherwise, it's been just fine.

4 of 5 What I Expected Monday, August 11, 2008
A Customer from Tennessee
It's an external TB drive for 159.00. It isn't the best thing since sliced bread, but for the price, I am happy with the product. I bought it for media storage during video projects and for backups. I formatted it with XFS and also ext2 (I am sticking with XFS.) This works with Linux distros BTW. It doesn't give the full TB, post format, but the difference between 1000 gigs and 950 gigs is negligible for me, when considering the price difference.

5 of 5 Very nice! (But gives off a lot of heat) Tuesday, August 05, 2008
A Customer from Henderson, Kentucky
The hard drive works perfectly, right out of the box. I'm using it to back up three Windows Vista computers, and three Windows XP Pro computers. The drive is SILENT. It has no fan. The drive does give off a lot of heat, though. I had it under my computer desk, but it got too warm in there for the computer too. I had to move the hard drive to another location outside of the computer desk. Can't beat the price, though. I'm 100% satisfied.

1 of 5 Bad Tech Support Monday, June 16, 2008
A Customer from West Chester, PA
I bought the hard drive and followed instructions to "plug & play." It did not work. I called the company and left a message for tech support to call me. They did not call. I called again and spoke to an operator who said they do ALL communication by email and that I had to get tech support from the web. There is no tech support on the web. This is the worst type of tech support because it delays the installation and you do not have the interchange that is imperative for this type of question. I don't even know how well the device will work because Tech support is not accessible.

1 of 5 I stay away from this drive Monday, May 26, 2008
A Customer from East Brusnwick NJ
I purchase the drive as the back up for all my pictures, all important documents and videos of my 18 month old baby. Drive die all of my data was lost talk about poor quality. Drive was 3 months old and only was used to back data so maybe was on for about 2 to 3 hrs at most. Buy at your own risk

4 of 5 Good Drive - So Far Tuesday, May 20, 2008
A Customer from Roswell, NM
So far, this has been a good drive. There are only two minor issues, 1. The power switch seems to be installed up-side down; 2. The power connector is a very tight fit and hopefully nothing is being overly stressed inside of the unit. Based on reviews of this and other hard drives, I did a full NTFS format and then ran a full diagnostic test with another program and everything came up fine. P.S. Make sure to register your product with Cavalry as their warranty requires it.

5 of 5 Great Buy! Monday, May 19, 2008
Bobby from Baton Rouge, LA.
Got this on special from buy.com and Google checkout so my total cost was $164.00 for a 1TB drive!! Now about the drive, easy enough to connect and nice that it is pre-formatted to NTFS. No problems connecting via Vista or Win XP. It is a very quiet drive. The front panel display is cool but gets bothersome after a while in a dimly lit room. You can't disable it without entering the USB drive case which voids the warranty. I did not use the included backup software so no rating on that but I do have it network shared using NDAS by Ximeta (on a USB host) and has worked perfectly.

5 of 5 GREAT VALUE - VERY RELIABLE Sunday, April 27, 2008
A Customer from Phoenix
Huge amounts of space! I use it just like a giant flash drive: Dragging and dropping files with ease. The unit runs VERY COOL compared to an older external drive I have, so that's a super plus. The only thing I didn't like was the software application that needs installed to use the "one" button backup. Overall, I'd recommend this 1 TB Hard Drive to anyone! A++

3 of 5 Good drive at decent price, but wasn't error free Wednesday, April 23, 2008
A Customer from Otis Orchards, WA
Because of my intended use of the drive, the first thing I did after unpacking it was re-format it. Unfortunately the format uncovered bad sectors, which I would have expected to have been mapped out at a low level during manufacturing. I contacted Cavalry Support who confirmed the drive should have been error free, and they offered to RMA the drive. I'm currently keeping a close eye on it for additional bad sectors and will return it immediately if they begin appearing. On a drive that big, it's really unsettling to think about loading it up with files and then not being able to trust that it won't corrupt them.

5 of 5 Very affordable 1TB SATA drive Wednesday, February 27, 2008
Mark from CA
When I received this drive, the first thing I did was unscrew the case and remove the Western Digital WD10EACS "Green Power" hard drive and install it internally. Great drive for a great price. The external case looks nice and well constructed, but I won't be using it. It is baffling why 1TB external drives cost so much less than internal versions, currently.

4 of 5 Good for Windows not so good for Mac Monday, February 25, 2008
Amit from Torrance, CA
I have both Windows based laptop and Mac OS based laptop. The product details does say that the drive supports both Windows and Mac, and yes it does but with a limitation of only 30 GB partition for Mac. So I ended up creating 2 partitions 1 for Windows around 900 GB (NTFS) and 1 for Mac around 30 GB (FAT32). Note: This drive comes preformatted for Windows (NTFS), so in case you want to reconfigure it, you will have to delete the partition and create again. But it sure is a good value for money.

4 of 5 So far pretty good with a very minor issue Sunday, February 24, 2008
Hamid Mukhtar from Danville, PA
Seems good and as fast as many other more expensive drives. The only minor problem is that sometimes windows does not detect it (Windows vista). If you switch the drive off and then turn it on again, it gets recognized. Just a minor inconvenience.
