iRobot Model 4199 Various Colors (Red, Green OR Blue) -- Refurbished

PROS: It does pickup dirt, the dust tray shows it. The filter doesn't get clogged easily like many other filters CONS: It will tumble down stairs. Have to block or use the device they give you to block. Can get caught in cords or rugs.

Really does a good job. It does a better job than a human! It does make a lot of noise though, so you can not have it on in the kitchen and still be on the telephone. Also, you do have to clear the floor of all the big peices.

I love my roomba! It vacuums while I play! We have two large dogs that shed a lot, and that drag in a lot of sand. The irobot vacuum cleaner does a great job! It works fine on our laminate flooring and on the throw rugs--also the carpeted bedrooms. Like I said, it is the best appliance I ever bought! (and the price was great too!)

I was leery of trying out the Roomba, but when I saw the deal on Buy.Com for a refurbished unit I decided to give it a shot. My whole family has come to love our new pet and we use it daily. You will need to “Roomba Proof” the areas you want it to get to, but that is much easier then vacuuming it yourself.

We are very satisfied with the Roomba. We use it several times a week. We find it to do a very good job of cleaning our floors. We turn it on before we go to bed and voila, clean floors in the morning. We have named the device Rex and it is curious but we almost think of the Roomba as a pet. Despite being a refurbished model, the device has performed flawlessly. When this one dies, I am sure we will invest in another one. Our cleaning people are getting nervous about being outsourced. I can't wait for the day that when new models clean toilets!

We love this thing. As long as you keep up with minor maintenance it works great. I wish we would have gotten the one with the scheduler and the home base, but it's not that big of a deal. We love it so much, we just bought a refurb scuba. We have hardwood floors all over coupled with a sheep dog, so hopefully the duo will be able to fill in the gaps between the cleaning people coming. Better iRobot doing the work than me!

The refurbished Roomba arrived with a half-dead battery - Right after charging the battery status light is orange not green, and it will run for only 20 minutes on charge. I strongly suggest buying refurbished roombas ONLY if the batteries are sealed new, otherwise don't! Other than that, the refurbished roomba is ok, just need a better battery for it, oh and it's some 10 dB louder than my other roomba.

New Innovative unit. Technology that you can acctually use. Unit works well. Battery life might be too short to clean a large house

I bought the refurb Roomba and it works great and was a better buy then getting a new battery for our existing Rumba. I use them both with one battery, when one Roomba needs cleaning I just flip the battery to the other one. If I can find a deal on a battery I’ll buy it, but otherwise a refurb Roomba seems to make since.

This refurbished Roomba is as good as new. There are only minor scratches on the top and bumper. The battery I got was very good. The suction of the Roomba is very good, the only bad side is that the sidebrush barely does anything. I had another Roomba before so I had all the accessories. It usually vacuums the part you see dirt sooner or later which is nice. I would recommend buying this Roomba and more accessories like the Homebase for it.

Works amazingly well. I can't believe the stuff it picks up even after the room has had a regular vacuuming. It's great fun to watch, even the cats seem to enjoy it.

I recently purchased the iRobot Roomba Sage when it went on sale for $140 here at Buy.com. I've used it a few times already, and it definitely does the trick. The Sage was a little more expensive, but came with a charging dock (which Roomba automatically find when it's tired) and remote (for those of us who are too lazy to vacuum--and also too lazy to bend over and push the start button). Seeing this price on the 4100 makes me wish I needed another one.<p> For those who just want the bottom line, it's worth it. For those that want stories, read on. <p> I was impressed at the way Roomba covered my living room when I ran it the first time. It cleaned it's way around the coffee table and other furniture with relative ease. <p> Before running it in the kitchen I had to pick up a little, but almost everything I picked up shouldn't have been on the floor anyway (empty pop bottles waiting to go to the garage, etc). I did relocate the cat's bowls and unplugged my laptop cable to avoid trouble.<p> I was *really* impressed that Roomba cleaned all around the table legs and underneath the chairs (a tight fit) in addition to the open areas. Roomba did a pretty good job at cleaning along the walls as well, although I needed to sweep underneath the appliances.<p> Roomba's value far exceeds its price tag. There's no way I could get someone to come over and vacuum my house 2 or 3 times a week for $2-4/week (assuming Roomba lasts 1-2 years) and I'm too busy to do it myself. <p> PS> Chasing the cat with the Roomba is fun, but not as much fun as I expected. The cat doesn't really run away until Roomba bumps into him. Roomba doesn't have the speed or suction power to suck up a cat and the cat seems to know it. He was afraid of the old vacuum, but he's brave enough to follow Roomba around the house and keep an eye on it. I guess supervising the Roomba is as close as he'll ever get to doing housework while I'm gone.<p> When are they going to make a Dishba to load my dishwasher?

I'm a gadget freak so, when I saw the price for the refurbished iRobots, I jumped on it. We had just had a major remodel and had LOTS of hardwood floors and a cat. It does a good job on the cleaning but it does require a fair amount of care. You have to clean out the dirt each time and pull the accumulated hair out of the wheels; I move small furniture out of the way, shake out rugs and hang them up and lift wires out of the way; I've started sweeping the corners I know it won't get to with a broom, pushing the dirt out to the center where I know it will get collected. Then there is collecting the thing and plugging it back into the charger. It is great in a large room but it is about a wash when you set it up and turn it loose in a small room. However, given that the newer model is down to $140, I'm thinking about getting a separate unit for downstairs.

bought our orginal discovery se roomba remanufactured off ebay for 100.00 bucks. I have used it for 6months under super heavy conditions. eventually the brush motor burned up and I'm looking to get this one for 99.00. ps. don't attempt to repair them, like I did its a waste of money. just a buy a new or remanufactured one. they work under super heavy load for a long time. my parent love it, and works great

i cant believe i got a roomba for $99! it got to my house in just a couple of days even though i picked the free shipping option. the roomba i received was silver instead of the colors advertised, but who cares about the color? for the machine to work you have to let it charge for 16 hours before the first use and then leave it on the charger all the time when you are not cleaning afterwards. we ruined our last roomba by not following the directions....it got to where it would not hold a charge for even a few minutes. as far as performance it does a satisfactory job on making the room look clean. i am very pleased w/ how well it picks up pet hair. my favorite part is using it in the kitchen. i hate sweeping even more than vacuuming and it does an awesome job in areas w/out carpet. my four year old loves to watch it go. when his friends from the neighborhood come over they like to watch it, too. it's funny to watch their amazement at it, but i must say i catch myself watching it sometimes too...it's pretty cool.

This thing works great! It doesn't replace regular vacuuming but it does help to keep your house clean in the interim! Just press the clean button, sit back, and enjoy watching it do all the work. My husband said to me, "it keeps doing the same area over and over, it won't get behind the table". All of a sudden, after he said that it worked its way over to behind the table and he was amazed! I don't care if it keeps doing the same area over and over, that means it is getting it cleaned! Boy the dirt it picks up! You will think your house is clean, but be warned it's not as clean as you thought it was until the irobot shows you! It is so easy to get rid of the dirt too, just press the button and the container snaps off. Buy.com is selling a great product and I was very pleased with their quick shipping.

We just had all our floors converted to hardwood. It's amazing how much dust wall-to-wall carpeting must absorb. This is the first Roomba we have owned and I miss some of the features listed in the owners manual (specificaly the remote). Otherwise, it is a good proof of concept without a tremendous risk. While it doesn't have the bells and whistles of newer models, it does a pretty decent job. I expect that we may eventually get a full-function model for our more complicated first floor (check out the 'Roomba Sage with Convenience Pack'), this refurbished Roomba satisfies my gadget need and my wife's cleanliness needs.

The item had a good idea, but it did not deliver what is promised. The battery is supposed to work more than 3 hours, but it stopped working in less than 5 minute, and I had to recharge it. Buy.com does not accept return for this item. I have to go through the manufacturer for the fix. Until it is fixed, it is useless.

I absolutely love this robot. It really does a great job cleaning my first floor and all the rooms on it (1,500 sq feet on first floor). I thought it would end up in one room circling and bumping into the same thing over and over, but I was wrong. This is one very smart device. I have hardwood floors and carpet throughout the first floor and it cleans both really well. I have two cats and it picks up all their clumps of hair. I have a son who tends to always track some kind of dirt into the house. The Roomba never fails to clean up the mess. When it detects dirt it will concentrate on cleaning that area a little better. It finds its way in every room. I was very impressed how well it cleaned the kitchen and the dining room. I wasn't sure how it would get in between the chairs around the tables, but amazingly it is just the right size to go in and around all the chairs. What really impressed me the other day was when it got stuck on a small throw carpet in front of our front door and it wiggled its way out of it. I couldn't believe it actually fought its way out. I strongly recommend this to anyone!

OK, I decided that the most I had to lose was $99. On the second day of having it, the robot could not keep a charge for over 30 seconds. But for the one day that it did work, I liked it enough that I went to the website and bought a brand new one of the latest model. We have two dogs and this vaccuum picked up the hair very well. I will let our new one run everyday and then just use our regular one once a week for the deeper clean. So I would recommed the iRobot, but I can't trust the refurbished ones.

The low end I-Robot, products are just as good as the big-ticket ones, I have had both. The robot will wear out in about a year, but if you use it EVERY day, that is pretty good wear. It works great on hardwood floors, and tile, and rugs. That said, it wont work as well if you have all carpet. I have 2 dogs and 2 kids, and the floors are always clean (Roomba runs twice a day!!)anything that minimizes my vacuuming is greatness for me!!

i'm really impressed with my new roomba. when i first saw them, i thought it was a gimmick that wouldn't last. after reading some reviews i decided to give it a try and i'm glad i did. unfortunately i find myself spending my time watching the darn thing out of fascination so i can't really say it's much of a time saver.

Pros: Cleans quite well, Kids love it, it is like another toy, Cleans under the bed and such. Cons: It gets stuck easily, so you have to baby sit it, It takes keeps criss crossing over the same area many times and hence takes longer than you would hope it should, but hey, as long as I am not the one cleaning ;-), The virtual wall could be better, I could not find a way to create a "wall", it seems it creates a circular force field and hence not as effective as I would have liked. Overall, I am very happy with it even though it has deficiencies that I mentioned.

The refurbished model works ok, probably the same as a new one. Don't worry that the unit will suck everything out of your house; it is more like an electric broom then a vacuum. You definitely need to "roomba proof" the area that you are allowing it to work in. The unit tends to get tangled on wires, shoelaces, a/c grates, carpet mats etc. When tangled the unit falls apart fairly easily, and 15 min later after you have figured out how to put back together it will continue. The suction is ok, as I said more like an electric broom. I would have preferred the upgraded model that has the home base for it to return to.

This is the second Roomba that I have purchased. I have 100% hardwood floors and the first Roomba did such a great job, I had to buy another for upstairs. The Roomba works much better than I expected and just as good as my best hopes. If either of my current units fail, I will replace it immediately.

I never wouuld have believed this vacuum was as effective as it is. The dirt it picks up is simply amazing. this is a great way to clean between regular cleanings.

I already had one roomba and thought it is great product, but wanted another so I could have them vacuum my house more often. At this price, I couldn't pass it by. Now I have one for each end of the house, and run them 5 days a week.

Had this thing for a week its great!!! I have a 1 bedroom condo about 800 sq. ft. with no steps when I leave the house I put it in the middle of the living room and go. When i come back all is vacuumed even makes it way into the bedroom!! So far the only problem was it "digested" my cell phone charger cord. got that back all is well try not to leave any cords hanging around.

I was a little concerned about buying a "remanufactured" item - but looks and works like a new model. THe vacuum is definitely an impressive toy (the robotics anyway), with considerable potential. It is however limited by a less than robust brush system, and reduced power compared to a full size vacuum. It does make its way around the entire room eventually, and is surprisingly "gentle" in regard to the items it bumps into as it goes along. I use it to keep up with the pet hair in between my regular full vacuuming, and I think it works quite well for these kinds of small jobs. Beware - light throw rugs, fringe on carpets and loose threads on bedding will jam up the machine. Follow it around for a couple of days to make such adjustments to the room before you let it loose, "unsupervised."
