1 of 5 not sensitive at all Monday, July 27, 2009 A Customer from MD
I have an 20 years old RD20 side by side with this one new one. A police car come by, the old one beeps like crazy, this new one keep asleep. Tested in many situations, it beeps in very short distance when approaching radar, almost useless. Was this review helpful?

This unit is great. I've been saved twice already from the dreaded speeding ticket. I liked it so much, I purchased another one for my husband! Was this review helpful?

Works great in City II mode.
H mode is too sensitive and gives lots of false alarms
for 37.00 can't beat it Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 Works great, but... Saturday, December 06, 2008 Dennis from Umatilla, Or
I have always been a fan of Whistler radar detectors, and this one is no different! I bought this, and it works like a charm, however.....I didn't realize that the blue LED's would be so bright. I figured that the brightness of the LED's may give a reason for a cop to pull me over (seeing blue flashes coming from my dash), so I put some electric tape over them (in a cone type fashion, so I can see the flashes, but the oncoming traffic cannot). I haven't been pulled over yet *knocks on wood*, and the detector keeps on keeping me out of trouble. I haven't had it fail yet. Every time it goes off, I know to slow down, even if is a false alarm (which doesn't happen much). So I give this Whistler a great review. I only wish they would have designed it so that the driver can see the blinking blue LED's, and not the oncoming traffic.
Just so you know, I would buy again, and especially through Buy.com. I got the best deal (and believe me, I searched), and VERY fast delivery, I mean VERY FAST!
So, I give high ratings to both Whistler, and Buy.com!
Two thumbs up! Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Cool Friday, October 17, 2008 San from Mooresville,NC
I am using this detector for about a month now. From my little experience this is catching the radar at about quarter mile. The blue indicators are eye catching. It is worth for the price. If there is an option to start the detector with silent mode or remember the last setting will be helpful.

Great radar detector, already warned me several times of upcoming speed traps. No problem with the noise levels, as others have suggested. The only gripe is that it forgets the settings (city mode, quiet mode, etc.) every time it is turned off and back on. Was this review helpful?

3 of 5 This one is for Grandpa! Wednesday, July 30, 2008 Frank from Fort Wayne, Indiana
This is a full size radar detector, reminds me of the late 80s fuzbusters. Its a perfect gift for your leadfoot grandpa. Would not recommend it for a smaller car, I am using mine in our VAN. I have another $40 buy.com detector which is smaller and its used in our car. Like with any radar, performance depends on where you install it. Whistler seems to work well, has a volume dial and large panel. Suction cups holds it well and has a longer power cord. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Good buy for the money spent Wednesday, July 30, 2008 A Customer from gallup, nm

4 of 5 Good product for the price Monday, July 28, 2008 Brian from Omaha, NE
I used it on an 8 hour trip last week. It seemed to have worked pretty good. It did go off a few times when there appeared to be no cops around though. I suspect it was from power lines close to the interstate. Overall though, I'm pretty happy with it and for the price, I'd definitely recommend purchasing it.

I'm not sure what it is but Texas law enforcement has a gun that this doesn't detect. Twice I passed a motorcycle cop pointing a speed gun right at me and this detector never beeped or flashed once. We took a trip from Texas to Nebraska where it alerted us to every cop we saw. I'm not sure whether this technology is new and not everyone has it or what so be careful, it is out of date. Perfomance is on par with my cheap Cobra, and the alerts are less annoying. It is particularly nice to have multiple city modes with the ability to disable X-band entirely. The Blue LED "periscope" indicators really catch the corner of your eye, but become annoying with prolonged indications, such as when a patrol car is directly in front of you. This unit also lacks a DIM/Night Mode. The display is clear and informative, but looks very cheap, especially compared to the Cobra in the same price range. The mount is sturdy, but the suction cups are small and I don't expect them to last long. This one does detect other detectors nearby, which increases the false positives. A great value, just don't expect flawless detection or lots of features. Was this review helpful?

This device in fact detects laser and radar detectors, but I'm not sure of how much leeway it provides you to slow down. So far I had 2 signals, one from a cop car parked next to me, and the detector showed me before i noticed the car but it was during a red light. The other time was 2 CHP cars helping somebody in the side of the road, and I got the signal almost at the same time I got visual of them. So, so far I'm not very convinced of how this thing will save me from a ticket if there is no "reaction time" between detection and eye contact but I can ascertain that it does detect radars. I'll have to try it a little more. Was this review helpful?

I was a little hesitant to get this but after it came in the mail I decided to try it out. On my way home this little thing started to make all kinds of noise so I decided to slow down. When I came around the corner sure enough there they were. This thing has saved me 3 times now and it has only been a week. I would recommend this to anyone. The city part I am still trying to figure out but the highway well lets just say there is more money in my pocket than the local police dept. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 customers found this review helpful. 5 of 5 Amazing cost/performance detector Friday, January 18, 2008 Steve from Charlotte, NC
I was extremely skeptical about the performance of a $40 detector, but after a few recent road trips, I am convinced this is actually a well functioning product. Although it does not have exceptional filtering ability for false signals, it can still give you enough X/K/Ka warning for you to slow down in time.
The two blue LED's are a great innovation, because you can easily see them out of the corner of your eye. This is extremely useful when your radio drowns out the audible signals, or when the sun washes out the primary letter warning lights.
You simply can't go wrong with the price. It does not have the features of the top of the line detectors (coiled power cord, voice alert, text readout, settings save, compass, etc), yet it has at its core the most important feature: the basic detection ability to provide enough warning for the driver. WOW!! Just received my new Whistle XTR-140 today. A day ahead of schedule, that's excellent. I bought it to be a backup radar detector to my Valentine V1 but this Whistler radar detector performance blows the Valentine away. The $400 Valentine is getting sold tomorrow!
Buy.com is great. Easy to buy and shipping by UPS is awesome. Thanks Buy.com! Was this review helpful?
