5 of 5 Norton Save&Restore a life saver Saturday, September 13, 2008
Juanita from Baton Rouge, LA

I use S&R routinely to produce a restore backup before I install or update a program - when there are problems, I just go back to the original. I had thought System 360 would replace it but I have had nothing but problems with it. This order was to replace my original S&R which I installed on my granddaughter's computer that she will be using in college.

4 of 5 Product is Acceptable Tuesday, June 24, 2008
A Customer from West Palm Beach, Florida
Performs backups with few glitches. Glitches most likely due to user understanding of program nuances. Therefore, some work can still be done to make more user friendly. Have not performed any restores yet, so cannot comment on ability or reliability to restore image from a hard drive failure. Completely dissatisfied with other Norton products and customer service, and removed all other Norton products from the computer due to performance issues. Previously had been a 15+ year paying customer. Reluctantly acquired Save and Restore solely due to the rebate for a net $0 cost, except for rebate postage.

5 of 5 Works great so far! Monday, June 23, 2008
jdewulf from Live Oak, FL
Installation was a snap and so far the only irritant is the constant popup to back-up my F drive. But it is just an irritant not a problem. I really like the back-up on the fly so I can keep working while it is backing-up. Great time saver!

5 of 5 Does the Job Wednesday, April 16, 2008
A Customer from Nelson, NH
Haven't tried to make a Restore disc yet (I have the whole system backed up elsewhere, so that's not a priority) but as far as the Save function is concerned, it's worked fine from Day One. It was a little cranky to install, but nothing this average computer person couldn't manage with a little time and patience. Scheduling backups was simple, and I'm pleased enough to have bought a second copy for the household's other computer.

5 of 5 Great Software for a variety of personal backup ne Thursday, March 06, 2008
AN from Florence, KY
This software has a lot of great features and was very simple to use. To this point, the most useful tool included has been the drive copy function. It allows you to duplicate the current hard-drive in your system to a like-sized or larger drive (similar to the functionalities of Ghost)--except you are able to do it on the fly while your system and even applications are running. I was successful in duplicating a problematic drive to a newer drive with great ease. In addition, this software also performs all of the necessary functions of typical backup software. You can back up your system on a schedule of your choosing, to either an internal or external drive. It also creates restore points and has other cool features to make disaster recovery a little less scary. Overall, I would give it a 5 out of 5 on every scale, as it performs all functions a basic end user would need, yet also includes some advanced features for myself and the other geeks among us.

3 of 5 Does not backup to a network drive Saturday, March 01, 2008
A Customer from Raleigh, NC
I agree with the reviews already written before me. Easy to install and use. My only disappointment is that it does not support backing up to a network drive. I had hoped to have my backups stored to an external drive I have on my network. Unable to do this. Otherwise, works great.

5 of 5 Easy to set up, easy to use Sunday, February 10, 2008
Jim from Aloha, Oregon
I chose Norton Save & Restore for the rebate. I am pleased with my choice for the performance. Installation couldn't be easier. Backups are almost as easy. There are two kinds: recovery point (whole system), and file and folder (files and folders). It keeps good records of when you ran the backup and where the data is stored. It has a scheduling system to control future backups. I liked Performance Throttling, that allows you to dial back how much resources it uses, so you can get something else done while the backup runs. One quibble: my first backup went to CD-R (the only medium I had at hand). S&R finished and then wanted to re-write the first and last disks. I will use my spare HD or DVD-RW from now on.

5 of 5 Simple to use - but complete in functionality Thursday, January 31, 2008
M. Robson from Lancaster, SC
This newer version of Norton Save & Restore has added a significant amount of polish and refinement over the initial release. It is a stable and reliable product now (something really good in a disaster recovery solution) that just works well. I backed up my laptop containing 18GB of data to an external USB 1.1 drive in less than 20 minutes using Normal compression reducing the backed up image over 2GB in size. [Moral of story - use USB 2.0 or Firewire devices for better performance] It includes an emergency recovery bootable CD in case you lose your system due to hardware failure or virus/worm activity (based on Windows PE - pretty cool). One word of warning - if you use Windows/XP folder/file encryption and restore a backup of just the folder to a new installation of Windows (or to another machine) you will not have access to these files any longer. This is not a shortcoming of the backup software but it is just how encryption is supposed to work to protect your data. To remedy this, you'd have to do some behind the sceens work to also move your Personal Certificates from a hidden folder in your Documents and Settings profile to the new machine so Windows will have access to the decryption key. To be safe, you should disable Encryption on your folders before backing up. Then re-enable after the backup is completed. My only complaint is the mail in rebate promotion. I HATE mail-in rebates.. 8-10 weeks to wait for processing is ridiculous. Just give me the discount at purchase time and stop playing games. Grr

5 of 5 100% confidence! Sunday, December 02, 2007
A Customer from sonoma, ca
I use other Norton/Symantec products, and this one has been on my TO DO list to buy/install/use for some time now. I can't tell you how AT EASE my mind is now that I have used Norton Save & Restore 2.0! My entire computer is on dvd-r's now in case ANYTHING happens! If I lose a file/folder, no problem. If my computer crashes.. NO PROBLEM! I can completely restore my entire history of information and settings! It is time consuming to use DVD's (or CD's) for that matter, but WORTH it. And heck... it's xmas and who knows what santa might bring (a 500GB USB2 7200RPM EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE with a compass in the handle?!?!?!)

5 of 5 Symantec knows Anti-Virus! Sunday, December 02, 2007
firebdragon from sonoma, ca
Having used many many other Anti-Virus applications, NORTON/SYMANTEC has topped the charts in my book as THE best virus protection program. This NAV 2008 version, rerquires only a couple of boxes checked, and two more UNchecked (default settings changes) and it is up and running, hungry to find attacks, and stop them in their tracks-dead! BUY.COM offers some of the BEST products at BEST prices this holiday season and all year round! THANK YOU BUY.COM!!

5 of 5 Save & Restore Provides Easy Backup Friday, November 30, 2007
A Customer from Port Orange, Florida
I had been using DRIVE IMAGE for several years to do a complete system backup on my computer. Using it had allowed me to recover on several occassions from virus infections or hard disk problems. When I moved to VISTA I needed an equivalent product. SAVE & RESTORE fits the bill. Easy to install and use. In some ways easier than DRIVE IMAGE because the install disk is also your recovery disk. I highly recommend this product and suggest that it be used on a regular basis to backup your computer. Sooner or later you will need to recover your hard disk.

4 of 5 The Cadilac of Backup Software Tuesday, September 25, 2007
A Customer from Grand Junction, Colorado
Norton Save & Restore ver 2 is great for backing up your data. As the successor to Norton Ghost it is a great tool for managing your backups of pictures, music, and data. It even has the capibility to clone a hard drive partition or the entire hard drive. The short coming of the product though, is when you want to clone the boot drive. This works but with some issues that you need to be aware about. Proceed slowly and causiously when performing this kind of function.

2 of 5 Wait for 3.0 Wednesday, June 20, 2007
Steve from Houston Texas
Well the good news is that it does work with Vista......kind of! I could not create a custom system recovery disk and Symantecs tech support is as always slow and not too swift! The image part works okay but the file system needs some tweaks to improve. There is no way to exclude directories which forces a lot of extra work.

4 of 5 It's like Ghost 10 Wednesday, April 11, 2007
A Customer from Santa Rosa, CA
Although it does have some enhancements, it does what Ghost 10 does. HOWEVER, I made a Ghost backup before installing Vista. With Save And Restore 2.0 I have not been able to extract files from the Ghost image. If it IS possible, then ease of use score should be lowered to a 1.
