Argus isn't doing its reputation any good by selling this thing, even at an aggressive price. Very small screen, poor photo quality (even for 5mp), very slow response time when changing settings, inexplicable and odd default settings, as well as shutter lag. For 30% more you can find a fully functional camera on sale so why go with this?

This is a great camera for a young student who is perhaps venturing out in the world of photography or perhaps is planning to join a photo/camera club in school. It has all the basics with flash and the ability to save on SD card (most common) and download to a PC without the enclosed software. It includes the USB cable for the download as well.

I wanted to give a camera for a family friend's daughter who is graduating and will be going into the Marines in late summer. I knew the family had no digital camera and I wanted her to have her friends and family's photo memories with her at deployment. I usually purchase Nikon cameras, but chose the Argus because of the long reputation of the company and the fact that it was 5 megapixel, the same as my and my college student's Nikons. The software included was Windows, but it plugged fine into my Mac with iPhoto. I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the photos, ease of use and included batteries. It was 'ready to go"! The price point brought the sale, but the experience afterward has me writing this recommendation.

I don't know about this specific model but I have bought two Argus digital camera before and was sorely disappointed. Both cameras broke (under warranty). I sent them back for service and they broke again (out fo warranty). Thank goodness for AMEX buyer protection, I got all of my money back. BEWARE OF ARGUS!

This is a nice bare-bones camera I purchased for my 11 year old daughter. She loves it. It does not have any special modes like macro and it's a little slow to snap a picture, but for the price, it's a good value. It uses 3 AAA bateries -- I would prefer 2 AA. I will have to find some NiMh rechargables because the batteries that came with it are already showing low battery when she trys to use the flash -- she has taken about 50 to 75 pictures without the flash because I failed to tell her that she should turn it on. It does not automatically start up with the flash on -- it has to be turned on -- maybe there's a setting to have it autoamatically sart when the camera is turned on.

The Argus DC-5190 is a 5 megapixel camera at an aggressively low price. But there are a number of things that bug me. It only takes up to a 1Gb SD card. I bought a 2Gb SD card to use with it and it did not work. Nowhere in the product lit does it show the max card size. Luckily my cell phone could handle the larger card. I took the 1Gb out of it and it worked fine in the camera. It shows about 450 pictures can be taken at the highest resolution setting with an empty card. It seems that if you use the USB cable, not only do you need to have the software loaded, but you must also hit a button on the camera to get your computer to "see" the camera. I found it easier to just pull out the SD card and pop it into my 9-in-1 slot reader. But the SD card is in the same compartment as the batteries, and the camera loses it's memory of the date and time and other settings when the battery compartment is opened. If the card could be removed without disturbing the batteries, that would be helpful. Next, I prefer automatic flash. But it defaults to no flash when you turn the camera on, even if you changed the setting to autoflash at last use. Of course, no flash saves on battery use, and the camera has decent low light capability so you almost never need the flash. You must get a little used to taking pictures with it. There is a 5 second delay before you can see the photo you took and it only appears for a second on the screen. You need to tell people to squeeze the shutter (not push it fast and release it) and hold the camera steady until it clicks, or you will get a blurry picture. When in movie mode, you cannot zoom while you are taking a movie, but a lot of digital still cameras are like that. My wife has a Kodak 5MP DX6490 which seems to take a lot better quality pictures than this camera. I'm not sure if there is something else different about how the data is stored. Anyway, the pictures are decent quality and really good for the money spent on the camera. Once you get used to and accept its limitations, it is a fairly easy to use camera.

Cheapest camera I found in current market for 5 MP. View screen not very clear. Picture quality is okay. However, if there is any rebate going on, I suggest you don't bet your luck on this item. Four months passed and I haven't see a trace of my rebate check.

I enjoy taking pics from around my aria befor this I had a 3.1 peg pix now with the 5 meg pix my photos come out clearer and wgen I go to publish them hopefully they will be much brighter

So I travel way too much and I carry a blackberry so there is no camera feature on my phone. This is a slim light camera that takes great pictures and fits in my backpack with the notebook and accessories! You do go thru batteries pretty quickly but that doesn't bother me to much. At 62 bucks for 5MP you almost don't feel bad if you lose or damage it either. Great value!
