5 of 5 Amazing product!!! Saturday, August 09, 2008
Phillip75 from Santa ana , CA
This is a perpect product for people who travel alot. Picture and sound quality is awsome when use with the same network. When on the road using different network the picture quality is not as good as at home network but acceptable. I bought it through Buy.com and I reiceived my order the next day,not bad for ground shipping. I did have a little problem with my order which it came missing the installation software but I was able to download it from the manufacture website. Installation was fast and easy. Great Product!!!

5 of 5 amazing product and great customer support Wednesday, July 09, 2008
A Customer from tampa, fl
i purchased my slingbox av from buy.com back in august 2007. i've had great experiences with it, the picture quality is amazing and i love having control of the dvr from anywhere in the world. i am just writing this review now to comment on their customer support. my slingbox just stopped working yesterday, and i called their support. they were kind enough to troubleshoot the problem and determine there was a problem with the slingbox itself. they are sending me out a new one as i write this and were extremely helpful and courteous over the phone. i highly highly recommend this product and the slingmedia customer support!!

5 of 5 Amazing product Thursday, June 19, 2008
A Customer from NC USA
Best thing since electricity and TV were put together. Works outstanding on laptop as a roaming TV in your residence. If you have high upload bandwidth (mine is only 300KB), it will look as good away from home. Controls all aspects of the remote system. The 2nd system that you hook up will not have sound (vcr/dvr). But at least you can set the timer to program remotely. Truely amazing. I've had mine for over 2yrs now. Great product. Setup is a breeze for any so-so tech saavvy person.

5 of 5 Great Device Friday, March 14, 2008
Scott from Connecticut
I hooked this up in 5 minutes and ran the s/w--they walk you thru configuring the router and it was a snap. I am a techie, but with the help they provide, would be easy for anyone. Works like a charm, good picure quality and it recognized my Uverse receiver and remote as well.

William from San Diego, CA
Very happy with this thing! I now get TV on my laptop computer, my desktop computer upstairs, and my OQQ travel computer. I have Direct TV too, with all the sports packages. My friends are amazed when I have some random game on live on my OQO. Slingbox is great!

5 of 5 Ultimate geek toy Thursday, January 03, 2008
A Customer from New York New York
Well designed, no service fees, cheap and works well. Not many things you can say that about. Friends are incredibly impressed seeing my home cable box play very clearly on my Centro Palm phone. Only con is that you have to pay $30 for a mobile software license. Other than that it's a great device! Oh, and for those of you considering the HD version I wouldn't recommend it for broadband viewing outside of the house. You can get a decent picture with standard res stuff over the net but I don't believe there will be a benefit to uploading through your router. Not enough bandwidth to make it worthwhile. The great thing is my HD cable DVR box (and most others I believe) will scale HD channels and DVR recordings to SD when using the composite video output to the Slingbox. Means I can watch HD channels and recordings with a regular Slingbox. Awesome!

2 of 5 It works Friday, December 28, 2007
Jack from Portland Or
I bought this since I travel a lot. I have a Dish Network VIP222 which is not on the set-up list of receivers. This is strange since Dish owns Sling Media and Dish has been promoting the Slingbox on their Tech and Charlie Chat forums. Calling Slingmedia was worthless. Got some guy with a very heavy Russian Accent who was useless. I spent almost a day trying searching Sling Forums and emailing those with 722 dvr's to see how they set theirs up and finally got it working. I've used it a couple of times from friends homes and found that it does work. The sound and picture quality are fair to poor using high speed dsl on both ends. Using Cable did not improve it much. I found it works pretty good only on watching shows recorded on the DVR. Watching live TV is poor. Sound quality has an echo unless you turn off stereo mode. I guess it beats flipping channels at the hotel so I'll keep it but I would not rate it as supplying great quality unless you have maybe T-1 access at both end.

5 of 5 Works Great Monday, December 24, 2007
DennisC from Grand Blanc, MI
I own a business that I'm at 15 hours a day and paying for cable at home was really a waste. Now that I have this, I can watch cable at work when I'm designing and during down time and it's really great. The computer I use at work I built and it has a 3.4GHz processor with 4GB ram and an NVIDIA 8800GT video card with 640MB ram. The monitor is a Samsung 20" DVI wide screen and the connection is a T1 at work so that may have alot to do with the quality but all I can say is buy it!

5 of 5 Technological Marvel Thursday, December 06, 2007
Gary from New Jersey
I love the Slingbox! While I'm a relatively old fart, I enjoy introducing my children to new technology. My oldest is off at law school in Chicago; my youngest a freshman at Indiana University. The lawyer-to-be misses her premium movie channels like HBO and Showtime. My boy misses his East Coast sports. Slingbox now allows them full access to our dish. This might seem obvious, but if I recommend you place the Slingbox on a less used TV to avoid any viewing conflicts between those in the home and those on the road. You don’t want to be interrupted during your home theatre viewings so place the Slinbox strategically. In my case, I relegated it to a basement TV that only the kids use when home. Conflict avoided. I'd also compliment Slingbox for its terrific online and telephone support. Placing the Slingbox in the basement meant I had to sling the signal to my router upstairs via a gaming adapter (bought one of the recommended models). That was easy to install. However, due to my use of VoIP in the home, I have a complex double-router configuration. I followed the online help to open the router ports on my wireless router, but the VoIP telephone adapter (also a router) didn't come with directions. I called the helpline and the representative there helped me reconfigure that second router and checked to make sure he could see my signal. The entire call took about 10 minutes and I was slinging media around the country. As to its quality, when I talked my son through the necessary software download and installation, his first reaction upon seeing HBO streaming from NJ to Indiana under his control as AWESOME dad! This is incredible! I might sound like a Slingbox sales rep, but I can assure you I'm not. Just mightily impressed with its functionality and quality.

5 of 5 Excellent ... it pretty much just works. Sunday, December 02, 2007
Tommy from Fort Worth, TX
Bought this before a 2 week trip to Poland so I wouldn't miss college and pro football games. I have DirecTV w/DVR at home. It's very easy to set up the box and use the SlingPlayer software, but make sure you either have a wired Ethernet connection near your A/V equipment, or have a "wireless bridge" box that is compatible with the SlingBox (see their web site for a list). Remember that this is *streaming* video. You can configure for up to 30FPS at 640x480, but you'll need a reliable high-bandwidth Internet connection on both sides for it to work. Luckily you can manually step down the quality in cases of bad connectivity -- I've watched a football game on a crummy free airport wi-fi connection during a long layout, and it was acceptable. This thing is like Tivo -- once you get it, you'll wonder how you ever lived without it, especially if you travel frequently. I've also tried the mobile SlingPlayer for Palm over the Sprint network and I'll say that combination is not quite ready for general use. The application is very nice but you can't really watch TV over the Sprint Internet connection on my Treo 650 -- it skips and lurches and cuts out too much. I don't know if a better carrier or newer device with more horsepower would fix that.

5 of 5 Great Device Friday, November 30, 2007
A Customer from Los Angeles
I originally bought this because I only had one DirecTV box in my apartment and wanted to watch TV in another room. Now I can watch TV in other rooms as well as at work (don't tell the boss!). The setup was very easy as far as watching TV on my home network. Configuring it to watch TV remotely was a little tricky since my DSL modem wasn't on their list. Once I made a change to my DSL firewall it worked right away. Very cool product, talked my co-worker into buying one as well, now we both watch TV at work!

4 of 5 Great Product; Slight Disappointment Thursday, November 29, 2007
A Customer from Philly to Manhattan
When you have your computer directly connected to the same network the slingbox is running on you will find the picture amazing. However, I tested the connection over a T1 line and 2 different home networks (both times wireless and connected)from another city, using different computers, and the connection was only ok, definitely viewable, but just ok. I would definitely recommend it but if you are traveling or living away from home dont expect to be blown away by the picture if you and the slingbox are 100 miles apart...

5 of 5 It really does work Thursday, November 29, 2007
A Customer from Springfield
I cannot tell you how skeptical I was about this product, but I'm telling you. It works, and it works great. While out of town, I was able to set my DVR, watch my normal DVR shows (still fast forwarding through the commercials), and catch an out of market game that I couldn't watch on local TV. <br><br> I actually now don't even have a TV in my bedroom, and just watch from my laptop. The quality of the Slingbox on my laptop, while receiving from the same router the Slingbox is hooked up to is perfect, as in its better than my older TV display. <br><br> The downside is there is a slight delay, and while it was easy to set up, actually downloading the player and keeping it current is a little more difficult.

5 of 5 great product Wednesday, November 28, 2007
A Customer from New York, NY
I couldn't be happier with this product. I bought it to connect to my mother's tv in my hometown so i could watch my favorite football team. While it was not so easy to set up (I could not walk my mother through it but had to wait until a visit took me home to set it up) but once up and running it has worked almost flawlessly.

4 of 5 t.v and no fees Wednesday, November 28, 2007
Don from New York
the slingbox works just as they said it would, except i thought the picture would be a little better.Working the remote for my tivo is a little tricky.theres a delay so when you click for it to stop fast forwarding it goes too far and you have to go back.thats the only things i could think of that are negative. On the the other hand slingbox is a great toy.watch a football game in the back yard, watch t.v while running on the treadmill the thing just comes in handy.I have a trip comeing up and im looking forward to having my t.v and tivo.

5 of 5 Slingbox Works GREAT! Saturday, November 10, 2007
Glen from Manchester, MO
I really LOVE my new Slingbox. Now I don't get so mad paying my cable bill each month because I can now always take my cable with me when I travel. The setup only took 5 minutes and the software correctly configured my LinkSys router without my help. As long as you have a 300 Kbps broadband connection the Slingbox work great in the same small size that you would see on other online video sights. The full screen setting is a little blurry with letters on the screen but doesn't look to bad if you view the picture from 5 feet away. I really like the docking mode so you can surf the internet and view your cable on your computer at the same time. I didn't pay extra for shipping from Buy.com but still got my Slingbox in 2 days. This is the best $110 I have spent in a long time.

5 of 5 An Awesome Item Wednesday, October 24, 2007
PDanJr from Haltom City, TX
Well, a friend of mine has a Slingbox, and used it at my store while waiting for his car repair, and frankly.. I just did not believe this "slingbox" was for real... well.. it is. Make sure you check the compatibility of your sat.box or cable box at the Slingbox site. Slingbox is an awesome product. Very easy to set up and slingbox makes programing your router for remote viewing a snap. Quality of the product is great, and the picture on the cumputer was a good surprise. Seeing the exact same remote on slingbox as I have for real was also a pleasure. Buy.com had the best price I could find anywhere even with the shipping charges. Great product Slingbox, and great service Buy.com. Thanks to all. BTW, slingbox now supports Apple which also made my partner very happy.

4 of 5 great product, better than nothing Tuesday, October 16, 2007
updoc from clinton, ia
I bought this to watch tv from anywhere in my house because Dish wants a lot of money to install more receivers (get the maximum amount of receivers you can when signing up for Dish). The video is pretty good throughout my wi-fi network. I have it connected to my Dish DVR. There is a significant lag time from when you change a channel until it shows up on your screen, which is a little annoying. When using it from a hotel room, the video quality was significantly lower, but still way better than hotel tv. I use Verizon broadband so if you have DSL or cable internet, the video will probably be a lot better. I'm happy with my purchase.

5 of 5 Real TV in Foreign Lands! Monday, October 01, 2007
Wade Knox from Houston, TX
I purchased the SlingBox and a DVR from my cable provider in preparation for two long International trips. My biggest fear was that the wireless system in the hotels would not be up to the task. I was very pleasantly surprised. The first 2-3 minutes of each show are jittery, especially the audio, but after the buffer begins to fill up, it smooths out nicely. My only frustration is that I seem to get apparently random button presses on the remote which cause unexpected things to occur. I haven't researched this yet, but hope there is a solution. I am currently 11 days into my first trip and have probably watched 16-18 hours of TV remotely, including a live football game. I am very pleased!

5 of 5 Great product!!!!! Saturday, September 29, 2007
vanwink from Milford, NY
What a fun and neat product, works as described and I have had no complaints except for the changing of channels when it changes the main TV by way of your computer mouse on the remote. But I contacted the company and they gave me a fix for it, either a splitter or another cable box. Shipping was excellent as always for buy.com. I would recommened it to anyone who wants to watch TV on your laptop without getting a tuner.

This is one of the coolest gadgets. I can check and control my Dish Network DVR from anywhere with an internet connection. The quality is very good and it's not hard to setup. You need to have an ethernet cable going to your cable or DSL modem.

5 of 5 Couldn't Be Easier Tuesday, September 25, 2007
A Customer from Tucson, AZ
I am very happy with my sling box AV. I wish I didn't have to purchase the software for my phone (hence the reason for the 4 in value) but the rest of it is great. Sling made this thing so easy to use. I think it was so easy my wife could have set it up just about as fast as I did. Besides the 'geek factor' of this thing, it is great to be able to watch your "local news" when you are out of town, or to watch the movie you taped on your DVR the night before while waiting at the DMV. The ONLY regret I have is that I didn't buy the HD version. I bought an HD TV & DVR about 3 weeks after I bought the slingbox. Oh well! It is still great and I highly recommend it to anyone. Also, I had Mobi TV for a while for my phone. At $10 a month, and very limited channels, this thing blows it away - pays for itself in a year! Plus the fact that you can watch your home TV/DVR on any computer anywhere, why would you not go for this over Mobi? Great deal, easy to setup, easy to use, user friendly, and the quality is quite good!

5 of 5 Amazing Functionality, Cheap "WOW" Friday, September 14, 2007
A Customer from Falls Church, VA
This is the killer application no one has heard of. The new slingboxes lack some of the troubling little "flaws" of the original units and dramatically expand the functionality of an innovative product. If setup were just a bit simpler, this technology would be nearly perfect. I use the Slingbox AV with my TiVo, Verizon FIOS, a laptop, and a Palm Treo, and the results are stunning. Excellent remote controls and adequate video and audio quality mean that I can access any function of my TiVo (live TV, recorded programming, Live 365 radio, etc.) on my laptop wherever a network connection or WIFI is available, or on my Treo wherever a good cell connection can be accessed. All this for a great buy.com price (the best that I can find) with no shipping fees and--more importantly--absolutely NO subscription fees. These are are the services we have all wanted but couldn't find, and less capable services offered by mobile carriers and companies like MibiTV for steep monthly fees are history if enough people learn about the new Slings. You will need to make sure you have several things before you buy: [1] a fast home broadband connection; [2] a network router located near enough to your TV/DVR to make a Cat5e hookup (wireless setup is possible with extra equipment, but it is not simple due to the lack of USB connections on the Sling); [3] a WIFI capable laptop, networked offsite computer, or fast mobile device; and [4] a basic working knowledge of av and computer setup. The fourth reality is a shame, because Sling has missed just a couple of critical steps in its effort to make this a truly plug-and-play device. For example, the setup instructions do not make it clear that the slingbox must be set up on a computer on the same router as the box before remote access is possible, or that the slingbox must be manually "registered" on a sling account before any remote device can find it. I had no problem figuring this out, but most people I know would need a support call to complete the setup. Sling can easily correct this problem, and it could have been avoided with one focus group. Eventually, I may upgrade to the HD-capable unit, but I don't think most mobile networks are up to the challenge yet, especially on a Palm or Windows OS device (and that's where the real "WOW" factor comes in). For now, the combination of Slingbox AV and a good DVR is hard to beat. My advice: buy one now! WOW technology rarely comes at such a low price.

5 of 5 Works As Advertised But Not Perfect Monday, August 20, 2007
A Customer from Dearborn, MI
For someone who travels for work, there's nothing better than being able to bring a piece of home on the road especially local programming. This gets even better when you're crossing borders. For that alone, this is a solid buy! Although I have found that the picture is fuzzy and not crystal clear, it's a great option for those who travel and want to stay tuned to their favourite teams.

5 of 5 Check your cable box compatability Monday, August 13, 2007
A Customer from Poconos Pa
The Slingbox appears to be one of the few products that actually works as advertised. Exactly as advertised. This thing is very slick! And they thought out the set-up process very well so that even novice computer users can easily set this up in about 10-15 mins. One warning: Check your cable box compatability at the slingbox web site. The cable box I HAD (Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8000) was not compatible so I had to call the cable company and get a different cable box: it didnt cost me anything, but I had to wait a few days to use my Slingbox. Overall great product.

4 of 5 Got it working at last Saturday, August 11, 2007
A Customer from Eugene, OR
The Slingbox is amazing. My system, however, involved connecting a device not on the supported list (although a similar model using an identical remote control from the same manufacturer is on the list). None of the remote codes worked. Slingbox email support said I was out of luck. The Slingbox Community had step-by-step instructions for how to solve this problem. I also had a connection problem (probably Firewire related) at one site. Slingbox email support said they had no recommendation as it wasn't their problem. Slingbox Community had specific recommendations that solved the problem. By the way, Slingbox email support takes days to receive a reply. The Slingbox site has excellent F.A.Q. to solve most problems. If you still have a problem go to the Slingbox Community linked on the site for help.

4 of 5 Simple device, simple setup Tuesday, July 03, 2007
A Customer from Houston, TX
The Slingbox is a very simple device that performs its task fairly well. The software is big but easy to download and install, and the setup process is simple. I'd give it 5 stars except that the end result, the actual video, has a fair amount of pixelation. That's not unexpected, but it's more obvious than a lot of reviewers would have you believe. It's still worth the money and provides a very welcome feature, place-shifting my satellite TV service!

5 of 5 Slingbox - an amazing device. Friday, June 22, 2007
Mike M from Englewood, Co.
I was concerned that the reviews of the Slingbox AV were over stated but after setting it up, I am amazed. I hooked it to my desktop, laptop, pocket PC and all have worked very well. I hooked the Slingbox AV to a new ethernet outlet and cable that runs to my router in another room. Installed the programs on the various computers and everything worked perfectly. I even watch tv in my back yard gazebo some distance from the router. The picture is sharp and clear. Buy.com had a great price.

4 of 5 Nice product, one flaw Wednesday, June 20, 2007
A Customer from Portland, OR
Nice product, one flaw Works very well streaming over the home network. Did not have chance to try it out from outside of home. Picture quality very good, overall good product with one gripe: slingmedia added encryption to the video stream some time ago, which prevents recordings with third party software. If their intention to fight piracy that way I wish they have built in some kind of time shifting features into the product allowing e.g. to play on the same computer what was recorded earlier. Lack of this feature just creates more gripe for legitimate users with legitimate needs (like watching the shows while on the plane). If I really wanted to pirate something - there are much better ways to do this than using slingbox. Encryption does not prevent anything, it is just pain in the … .

5 of 5 More than meets the eye Wednesday, June 20, 2007
A Customer from St Louis, MO
The Slingbox was so much more than I thought I was getting. The ability to use on your LAN and the quality of it within the house was something I hadn't considered before buying it. It allowed me to use my DVR on all my computers (at home and on the road) and on other tvs in the house (via computer). Works well over the internet too. Took awhile to get it working because of port forwarding, firewalls, etc. I had to expose it to the DMZ because my router wouldn't configure properly. Definatly takes some computer knowledge to setup. But well worth the money. I did find another product that I'd look into as well called HAVA Gold HD. Think it might be better for some people.

5 of 5 Excellant Tuesday, June 19, 2007
Nunna from Valencia, Pa
i have dish network receiver which is also a DVR, model 510. I had problem of operating the receiver/dvr with the remote of slingbox a/v. The technical staff was excellant in guiding. They suspected IR cable as being at fault and sent a new one with no charge to me. I replaced IR cable and still didnot work even though i had the correct model dvr selected. as i have two DVR receivers, i had changed the remote code on this dvr to 3. (Factory default is 1). I finally selected SAtellite with remote 3 as the device and i was able to control my dish network receiver completely. Sugest selecting satellite receiver with appropriate remote code if one has issues to operate. Everything is fine now. i stongly recommend the product.

4 of 5 Great technology; networking can be troublesome Tuesday, June 19, 2007
A Customer from Rochester, NY
The Slingbox is some of the slickest technology I've seen in a while -- however setting up remotely outside your home network can be problematic. I have Vonage with an integrated D-Link wireless router. Works great inside the network, but the Slingbox software doesn't recognize my Vonage router and it's very difficult to figure out the setup for remote (out of your home network) use. D-Link and Vonage point at each other, as the Slingbox is not (yet) common technology.

5 of 5 Everyone should have a SlingBox Tuesday, June 19, 2007
Ron from Louisville, KY
This inexpensive piece of hardware is one of the best things I have seen in a while. If you have broadband internet and a router, I don't know why you wouldn't want one of these (unless you don't have TV). The setup on this unit is very easy and works better than I could imagine. If you want to access your TV receiver (DVR or other AV products) from any location in the world (as long as you have a broadband internet connection) this little device is for you. I love it. I wouldn't have know about it without seeing it on a Buy.com email advertisement.

5 of 5 works great on my mac Thursday, June 07, 2007
clayton.reed from southaven,MS
I love to use my sling box! I use it out in the backyard while i am grilling and i use it some at the office. I haven't had a chance to use in while traveling, but i will in a couple of weeks. I had a little trouble setting it up on my mac. It had the video freezing up some. I called customer support and tried several things. I still had problems with it. I tried it on my newer intel laptop and i had no problems. So it i took my g4 laptop and changed the video settings to a lower setting and it works great now. The picture size is a little smaller but ok. The picture size is a lot bigger on the intel laptop. Anyway, this was a great purchase! It is well worth the price. Two of my friends have bought one now as well.

5 of 5 Just plain cool Wednesday, June 06, 2007
Nudd from Atlanta, GA
First of all, the price I got from Buy.com was better than anybody else to the tune of 50 bucks. That was cool. Second, the Slingbox itself is an experience that just brings out the geek in me. I use it on my laptop when I am upstairs in my house while playing a game or editing a video or whatever. There is my digital cable running alongside. Finally, the setup was a breeze. They lay things out for you so explicitly and even the most technical inept could figure it out. They even provide manuals for configuring your firewalls or routers for remote access to your Slingbox. Love the product.

5 of 5 I love this thing Wednesday, May 30, 2007
A Customer from Billerica, MA
I kept waiting the price to drop and it did. I can't imaging being without the Slingbox now. I take my laptop everywhere I go. The back deck, the kitchen, the garage. The picture is amazing and since I have it hooked up to my Directivo I can watch recorded programs wherever, whenever. It was very easy to setup and the instructions were easy to follow.

5 of 5 Everyone should have one! Wednesday, May 30, 2007
Greg from Winston Salem, NC
I have had this for about 2 weeks now and have used it on my pocket pc and computers at several locations. It works GREAT! I have it hooked up to a DVR so I can watch my shows when it gets slow at work or when I'm on a long trip, I hook my pocket pc into the AUX hookup on my car stereo and listen to a favorite TV show, VERY much worth the money, would buy again.

5 of 5 Believe the Hype! Monday, May 28, 2007
Louis from Carson, CA
All the reviews about how easy it is to use/setup this product are true. Bought this product and had it setup in hour. Specified all my equipment and all the setting were correctly made. Had to use the knowledge base to setup my Linksys Gateway/Router manually, but that was pretty straight forward also. I am able to view my TV and control My Tivo that is part of the setup. Pretty awesome, can watch TV anywhere in my house w/ wireless laptop or hard wired computer! Can watch TV virtually anywhere with the with a computer w/ software and a internet connection. Next step, watch TV on my cell phone with broadband service. Picture can be choppy at times because of quality of connection, cannot watch maximized (picture is distorted). Best use in modal anchored to one side of a widescreen or dual screen setup, can watch TV while doing work! For the cost, it is a pretty good product. Better than subscribing to a TV service that some wireless providers are selling!
