So, has anyone updated their SPH101 so that a user name can be entered to grant it access in all those retailers with no-charge WiFi hotspots? Was this review helpful?

Product is fine but could not get the 50$ mail-in rebate because I was given a wrong UPC# on the form. Was this review helpful?
3 of 5 Not ready for prime time Saturday, May 19, 2007 Mike from Passaic, NJ
The idea is great but implementation is somewhat lacking. Wi-Fi reception is a lot worse than my laptop (right now my laptop says signal strength is good, but the phone says there's no signal), sound quality is a lot worse than either regular phone or skype on computer, battery is weak and there are many quirks with set-up, PARTICULARLY until you upgrade firmware to the latest available. Perhaps the second or third generation of the phone will be good. Was this review helpful?
3 of 5 Good technology but needs improvement Wednesday, May 02, 2007 doshinirav from Mobile, Alabama
The phone has the same voice quality as skype on the computers. But there are few things that needs to be noted before purchase of this product... It is not fully developed product in the sense that its software is buggy and turns off the phone automatically some times. The battery dosn't hold a better charge as other cell phones do. It gave me 100min's talk time and it turns off without notification or warning signs that battery is low. The device is extremely easy to use and configure. The battery already had some electric charge and within 4 min's of opeaning the box I was logged into my skype account and already had made phone calls. There are 3 ringtones which can't be changed. The Loud Speaker o.k but, Yes It definately needs a better quality loud speaker. Considering the current price and the things that this phone is shipped with is not value for money. May be waiting for a new realease would a better idea. Was this review helpful?
2 of 5 I don't know Thursday, March 08, 2007 A Customer from Wheeling, West Virginia
This phone is fine on my end of the call but the person on the other end always complains about an echo. If it worked on their end it would be fine. My problem is I don't know how to get rid of it. There is no settings on the phone, like on the computer, where you can set the audio. Not worth the money till I find a way to fix it. GO EERS. Was this review helpful?

This very sleek looking phone works really well and it will save you a fortune on calling friends and family. You will no longer be tethered to your desktop PC to make and receive your Skype calls.
I use it around the house, in coffee shops and restaurants, at airports and around town. You will discover so many FREE open Wi-Fi hotspots that you did not even know about. They are all around where people live and work.
This is cool disruptive technology - the cell phone companies will hate you - but you are going to love it.
I highly recommend you buy one. Was this review helpful?

This product was extremely easy to use right out of the box. The battery already had a charge and within 10 minutes I had connected to my wireless network using WEP, created a new Skype account through the phone, added contacts, and made several test calls. It has a very clean interface and a sleek design.
The charger was 110V and I work outside of the US, however, you can buy a separate USB cable (digital camera 4-pin type) and can charge the phone via USB, a feature that I did not see in the documentation unless I just missed it.
The downsides were that the glossy white paint on the case chipped and peeled within a couple of days on the battery cover, and as mentioned before there is no browser for signing into wireless networks such as at airports. Overall though, I think this is a very well-designed product and would recommend it. Was this review helpful?

Upsides: Voice quality and responsiveness are as good as using Skype on my laptop in the same hotspots. Came up right away and has worked without a hitch so far.
Downsides: Biggest flaw is lack of a browser, which makes it impossible to use with hotspots that require a login. Talk/standby time is considerably less than advertised (but I've never used a phone that came close to its talk/standby specs), however still good enough for an average day of use for me. The charger that came with mine was 110V only. Also no text chat.
A bit pricey for what it is, but the going prices are getting close to a low end cell phone. Was this review helpful?
