| | | | The Network Optimizer sits between your home router and broadband cable or DSL modem, and automatically prioritizes time-sensitive network traffic like online gaming and VoIP calls for smoother performance. |
| | The Network Optimizer for Gaming and VoIP from Linksys streamlines your home network for next-generation Internet applications. By applying various Quality of Service (QoS) techniques to your network traffic, the Network Optimizer makes sure time-sensitive applications like online gaming and VoIP calls run smoothly.
The Network Optimizer sits between your home router and broadband cable or DSL modem, and monitors the data going through. It automatically determines what data is time-sensitive and what isn't, and prioritizes delivery of that data to its destination, ensuring the best-possible performance for the various types of data that go through your network.
Traffic prioritization helps make sure that your online games don't lag when someone else on the network is surfing the web or sending email. Voice over IP phone calls sound cleaner. Outgoing streamed video from your Internet Video Camera runs smoother.
And the best part is that the Network Optimizer takes care of prioritizing the data automatically, with no user setup of QoS policies required. After a simple installation it gets right to work, enhancing your network's performance and helping you get the most out of your high-speed Internet connection.

1 of 5 Hung up my inet connection twice in two weeks Thursday, December 04, 2008 Alex from Kirkland, WA
I have Verizon FiOS with 5MB/s down maybe that's the reason I didn't notice any difference in Vonage sound quality. What I did notice, however, is that it totally hung up my internet connection twice in two weeks. I had to powercycle it to restore connectivity. Trying to return now...

5 of 5 Easy to install...simple to use Saturday, October 18, 2008 John from Shoreline, WA
Received this unit and was able to install in less than 5 minutes. The installation was extremely easy. I currently have a Cable Internet Connection and have noticed that video streaming has markedly improved. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Easy to install, no headaches here... Monday, September 22, 2008 Larry from Tulsa,OK
Got on sale cheap although I'd pay more now, knowing how well it works and how easy it was to set up.
I run a couple IP phones along with our PC support tools and this device quickly solved the choppy voice on our IP phone, especally when up-loading big files.
The best part is that there was no configuration to do. Just plug it in and wire it up and it works.
Yeah my router may do it, but a quick look through the manual and I didn't see any mention of QOS or VOIP anywhere.
This works for me... Thanks LinkSys. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Way better performance than before... Tuesday, September 16, 2008 A Customer from Chicago, IL
I only paid $19.99 with free shipping and it has been a bargain. My VOIP has never sounded better and the internet ping has decreased at least most of the time. The servers are part of the equation that is beyond my control. Either way when gaming online my ping is much better and I don't lag like I used to. I can feel it! I didn't pay $150...I have better things to do with my money! Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 good for the money Sunday, August 03, 2008 grnmtnsrider from Killington, VT
I picked this item up at the $21.99 price point in early July 08. I really havent noticed any vast improvement in the online gaming department to be quite honest. I have noticed alot more network problems lately though, between dropped wireless signals and non communication between the router and the optimizer. When it does work its fine, but it does crash often. Kind of up in the air about it, but i reconfigured the entire network the other night and everything has worked fine since then... 5 of 5 Seems to work for me!!!!!!! Sunday, June 29, 2008 A Customer from Phoenix AZ
Other than one more thing to have plugged in, it installed in seconds and after a short time seemed to be doing what it was supposed to. In the last 3 weeks I have not had a VOIP call fade in and out as I had in the past.
PS - Wired router with one PC connected. get in excess of 15MBS download and over 1MB upload on my connection. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Works Perfectly. Saturday, June 28, 2008 A Customer from La Quinta, CA
Before buying, I read many reviews.
This product seems to have a love/hate relationship with everyone.
I wasn't to sure about buying this but it was super cheap.
Its works.
I was downloading 5 torrents, some up to a 800mb dl rate.
During this, I played BF2142 with no lag, at all. Steady ping around 30.
Normal browsing speeds has increased slightly.
Overall I am pleased.
Now I can download and game...Awesome.

5 of 5 Huge improvement in overall internet experience Sunday, June 22, 2008 Mark Meland from Kirkland, WA
Let's face it, most of us are not internet experts. When it comes to networking things can get pretty hairy very quickly. After installing the OGV200 (two plugs and a power cord) the box preconfigured itself. Lag in online games vanished. Downloads increased several kb's per second. Internet radio broadcasts would be choppy if another computer simply loaded a website. Now, internet radio plays seamlessly without jitter or dropouts in audio.
I do not have VOIP phone service but in gaming, VOIP works perfectly. The best $20 bucks one could ever spend on a simple product for those that lack the time or the technical prowess to configure their router optimally. For people with a busy house and lots of internet action going, this product will smooth everything out instantly. No instruction manual required. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 this does work very well. for the price, you cant Tuesday, June 17, 2008 jimmy from la, ca
yeah, many routers may already have the ability to prioritize traffic properly if you can set it up right, but this thing does it right out of the box and its only 20 bucks. works very well.
it really makes a difference if you share a connection with other people and you want to talk with voip or play some online game. it basically knows when time sensitive data is being transmitted and gives that kinda traffic higher priority.
if you like to download a bunch of stuff (like torrents), you will notice a very nice difference with this. normally i only download stuff at night when the connection isnt in use, because it takes it all up and makes everything super slow, but with this thats no longer an issue. 1 of 1 customers found this review helpful. 5 of 5 For the price in works well Monday, June 09, 2008 jdnezer from NY
My setup is a Linksys wireless router and linksys VOIP box
VOIP service is vonage.
Gaming xbox live.
Several pc 's and laptops connected to network.
I know that the router can be configure to do the same thing. But this device does it for you. Setup is as easy as just plugging it in.
And I must say our VOIP quality is better and our webpages load much faster.
Definitely for the price. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Surprised... Saturday, June 07, 2008 Leroy Sunset from Eugene, OR

Well, I was too lazy to set the QoS settings on my router, so I picked this bad boy up for $20 here at Buy.com. Setup was literally plug-and-go, along with power cycling my networking gear.

I am very happy. My VoIP is clear (which was the biggest problem I had before) and my browsing speeds are decent when downloading. The only downside is that it looks like it messes with the remote connection in my torrent downloading program (NAT issues I assume).

We'll see how it does over the next few days. I'm going to put it through some hard-core gaming next, to see what this baby can handle! If you're not dirt poor, this is worth giving a shot.

4 of 5 Works pretty well Tuesday, June 03, 2008 Ted from San Jose, CA
I'm a computer programmer who works from home a couple of days per week and usually need to download very large files representing over-night builds of our code. At the same time I do this I'm available to peers on skype and general voip. My VOIP ping would skyrocket to 2000ms when I started large downloads as the download client I use for work is bandwidth-greedy (opens multiple download connections). I couldn't even browse web pages on other PCs while the download was going. Once I plugged this thing in it became the great equalizer. Every PC gets a fair share of the bandwidth in general and in the cases of greedy downloaders, the speed is throttled in favor of ping sensitive apps. Only side effect is that peak download speed seems to be diminished a little overall. Great product. Was this review helpful?
