5 of 5 Work with them, they're great Saturday, December 16, 2006 Jon from Peoria, IL
After a horrible experience with the Creative Aurvana, I decided to try the E4C's after reading other reviews - they don't disappoint. You need to put some time in finding how to get the proper seal for your ears, and use the isolating (3 tier) ear piece. The clarity is unreal, and while the bass is a bit light, they take well to a EQ adjustment. To get the best response, the earpieces must be in correctly. THIS CAN MAKE ALL THE DIFFERENCE. Overall, one of the best sounding sets I've come across!! Was this review helpful?

I bought these because I wanted good sound isolation and good sound quality. The e4c's deliver on both accounts. The Bose and other over-the-ear noise-cancelling headphones were not practical to take on the train commute every morning, and these ear buds are easy to coil toss in the bag.
SOUND: I hear new details in songs that I've heard hundreds of times. This is due in part to the isolation from other sounds. These sounded extremely bright when I first listened to them. After 5 minutes I put the iPod's headphones back in and they sounded muddy and lo-fi. Reverbs and overtones really shine on these headphones. The bass IS light..you'll use the bass boost on your device. It's espceially light if you don't get a tight seal. Also, walking or moving is likely to transfer sound through your body into the headphones. Not good for exercising.
ISOLATION: Very good. The foam tips work best for me, but they lose elasticity over time, and the sound suffers. Replacements are cheap. The passive system blocks ALL frequencies, so low rumble and yippies on their cell phones are all blocked out. Very Good.
COMFORT: Hard to get used to. I can listen on the train at very low levels, so when my ears hurt at first, I think it was the pressure of the foam on my ear canal. Used to it now.

A perfect compliment to your iPod or other MP3 player. The only thing better is the Shure e5c which is much more expensive. Completely blocks outside noise and has beautiful audio reproduction. Was this review helpful?

I always wanted to have an isolating earbuds because I take the train to and from work everyday and it's next to impossible to hear anything from my regular sony headphones. But I always thought the price is way too high. I was looking into either an e2 or e3. E4 was out of my price range at $299 (two hundred ninety nine)!! Then one day, i see it for $175 (one hundred seventy five) at Deal of the DAy. So I jumped on it, along with my 10% off coupon. Total paid: $160 (one hundred sixty) plus shippping. Glad I did because several days after it sold out.
So how does it perform? I was expecting a lot but was disappointed for several reasons:
1. It's somewhat uncomfortable, no explaination needed here.
2. When I walk, or run I hear this thumping sound.
3. It's not completely isolating. You can hear people talking with the earbuds in and music not playing. Again my expectation was probably way too high. But when the music is playing, you don't hear outside noise.
Overall, the product did do what i wanted it to do, which is to be able to listen to music in the train. Actually, I listened to Harry Potter today and was happy with result.
I'm still playing with this. My coworkers seems to absolutely love it, i'm still out on verdict. I'm going to try each different ear pieces each day. The triple flange today was kinda uncomforting.
I'm probably going to keep this one, even though there's a 30 day money-back guarantee. I just wonder if e2 or e3 is good enough for me. I may never know, but I got a great deal nontheless.
Let's see when it will be back in stock...
