it was awsome it could play crysis far cry 2 and any other game but after two hours of playing with it it bue screened then i restored it then after 1 day it blue screened again Was this review helpful?

First off, I bought this laptop listed here, not somewhere else. The screen I received was not the 1440x900 listed in the specifications, what I got was a 1920X1200. Wow. It is awesome. The screen is absolutely gorgeous. I don't think I've seen one nicer. I mean I wouldn't gamble on getting the nicer screen, since it does say 1440 in the specs.
Came in a corrugated cardboard box, inside was a corrugated support frame. Works just fine, seems to be free of cosmetic defects.
Comes with windows vista x64 home premium installed, and all of the best buy crapware. That really would be good enough, was hoping to get my copy of windows 7 through ASUS though. None of the serial numbers on the bottom worked in the win7 upgrade program, fortunately I had a copy. ASUS's website made it easy enough to get the drivers, however it seems they may not have a download server in the states so it took me a few hours to download all of them.
ASUS's proprietary software has some cool proprietary software for facial recognition and using it to log in and such. and a program that claims to optimize the boot process.
I bought this to replace my laptop and desktop, a custom gaming desktop and a Thinkpad R61. I wanted something I could take to a friends house easily and be able to play video games, beats the hell out of the desktop for that, the Thinkpad isn't comparable (apples/oranges). There is however a significant decrease in gpu power from the desktop, that's to be expected though, but games were still playable on higher settings.
Just browsing the web I get maybe an hour and a half battery. I was able to play L4D2 for about an hour before running out of juice.
This thing is a behemoth. It's among the largest of 17" notebooks, and it's heavy. I got a Targus TXL617 and it works, but it's pretty heavy.
Overall I recommend, even if you get the 1440 screen, it's a great bargain. Was this review helpful?
