The software installation is a bit tricky because you must follow the instructions closely and in the proper sequence. I suggested this product to a relative in another state who could not get the software installed and is still unable to use the product until she finds someone with more computer experience who can help her.
You can ONLY scan the three sizes of original photos ( 3 1/2" x 5", 4" x 6", and 5" x 7" photographs). The tray is inserted vertically so if the original does not fit in the tray you can't convert it. I tried and the photo fell out and inside the machine, I had to turn the machine upside-down and shake it like a toaster to get it back out. If your original photograph is odd sized in any way from the 3 sizes listed above you cannot convert it with this machine. It takes a digital picture of your photograph, it doesn't scan. The machine adjusts resolution to those size photos only. It cannot convert slides or negatives - the trays will not hold them and since it does not scan all you would get is a picture of a slide, not a converted digital photo image. It work's great for the 3 sizes listed but worthless for any other original size photograph. You also need to start over if you switch tray sizes because you need to set the tray size in the setup process. I sorted my photos by size so that was not a major issue. Since it takes a digital photo it is very quick unlike a true scanner and the results are impressive. For the price, I would buy this again for the photos I have that it can convert knowing I need to use a regular scanner for other sizes. Was this review helpful?

Once I set it up, I could slip a photo in a frame, slide it in the device, and quickly make a digital file. I am not especially adept with Windows software so I found it a bit tricky to install the software. Maybe others wouldn't experience this problem. It was particularly tricky when I tried to install it on Windows XT running under VM Fusion on a MacBook Pro. The device includes three frames (for different sized photos). I found that my photos had to be just the right size for a frame. Otherwise, I couldn't push and pull the frame in and out quickly. My feeling was that this device is generally faster than a scanner for scanning photos, and the software offers some degree of control/adjustments. Was this review helpful?
