As you will see and experience, the user interface gives you convenient access to the key buttons of your TV set top box remote. All the buttons are large enough to be operated with your fingers (or the stylus, of course).

The amazing audio quality of the built-in speakers or the headset will make for a most delightful TV experience far away from your sofa.

One-tap again on the screen and you are back to our friendly user interface to control your TV source. Choose one of the four modes at the bottom to bring up the corresponding remote: CHAN (for Channel control), FAV (for your Favorite channels), STB (for Set Top Box functions) and PVR (for Personal Video Recorder functions):

The CHAN mode allows you to enter the channel number you want to change to, onscreen, to go Channel Up or Channel Down with the arrows, or call on the Previous or Favorite commands of your set top box. The onscreen digit buttons come in handy if you don't want to expand your N810 keyboard, or if you have an N800 which has no keyboard
    CHAN Mode
The FAV mode allows you to assign your favorite channels to the 12 onscreen buttons. You can enter a text label or channel number to identify each of your favorite channels, or you can use channel logo buttons that you would create yourself or get from other users. Then, to switch to one of your favorite channels, just press the corresponding onscreen button.
    FAV Mode
The STB mode gives you access to the main functions to control a set top box: Menu, Guide, Info, Record, Page Up, Page Down, Last, Exit, List. In case, your set top box uses non conventional IR commands, you can specify them to enable them on your device. The 4 colored buttons can be also assigned any command of your choice.
    STB Mode
The PVR mode provides access to all the commands for Personal Video Recorder (PVR) if your set top box includes PVR functionality: Pause, Play, Stop, Skip Back, Skip Forward, Fast Rewind, Fast Forward, Info, Exit, Live TV, Record. In addition, you can also assign other favorite commands to the 4 colored buttons of this onscreen remote.
    PVR Mode

Another great feature is the Mute On/Off button in the top right corner of each onscreen remote. Someone barging in the room and you don't want them to know that you're watching TV? Press on that Mute Off button quickly...!

For the power-users or keyboard-mongers among you, many of the most used commands also have convenient keyboard equivalents like the digits, channel up and down, menu navigation, page up, page down, play, pause, stop, skip back, skip forward, fast rewind, fast forward, mute on/off, menu, guide, etc.

5 of 5 Better value than Sling Tuesday, March 17, 2009
    Rol from Flushing, NY

This is good for the price over Sling. I got this that support PAL and NTSC and install in HK and watching it in USA. The Pal version Slingbox in HK is way overpriced (almost US$200 for a basic one. The only disappointing part is you can only view the content of the USB HD recording within the local network.

Easy to setup and use. Somewhat hesitant over the network (ethernet or wireless). I'd recommend it.

    5 of 5 good value Saturday, January 17, 2009
    A Customer from texas
bought this unit to record videos to a hard drive and take them on the go. it has worked great! installation was easy, no problems. remote control programing was easy too. the wireless streaming video and audio is not great but acceptable. the wired's is great. i don't have a slingbox so not sure how it compares. but my house network can upload 5mbs and the hava is limited to 1mbs. i read they are working on a firmware that will use more bandwidth when available. it has the name "HD". that's a little deceiving. it can take HD content thru composite connection but it downscales it to DVD (not HD) quality when it comes out in the other end. however it keeps the HD size (ratio). this technology is still in its early stages. i guess the hava is good for now. they have a forum (blog) at www.myhava.com pretty useful, check it out if you have more questions.

5 of 5 Awesome picture with a fast connection Wednesday, December 31, 2008
A Customer from Sugar Land, TX
I've owned the Slingbox Pro for over two years. I bought the Hava for it's ability to record shows directly to my PC to transfer onto DVDs. For one third the price that I paid for the Sling Pro, I gave it a shot. SETUP - I did not have any setup problems that other people have reported. The only problem I had was that I couldn't find a compatible remote code for my Dish VIP722. Hava's new software has a learning feature that Sling doesn't offer so that's neat. The learning functions worked but it was just tedious to learn all those buttons plus it seems that there was a longer delay when using the learned buttons. I went to Hava's forum and found that if I set my IR remote to channel 1 then it would be compatible with the built-in VIP622. That worked perfectly and the buttons seem more responsive. VIDEO - To my surprise, the Hava wins easily. For shows, the picture quality on my 21 in LCD looked just like a DVD. The sling was close but I noticed more jaggies. I watched a basketball game and I really noticed the difference. The Hava handled motion much better. There were so many jagged lines in the crowds and uniforms on the Sling Pro. - Hava requires a fast connection. I noticed frequent audio/video drops when on a low signal wireless G network. - Sling has much better video buffering where they just reduce the video quality to compensate so you don't notice all the audio/video stutters. AUDIO - Sling wins but by just a small margin. The Hava's volume is lower and is slightly more muffled (not as bright). - Hava has more stuttering on slower connection. I don't ever remember audio stuttering (only video) with the Sling. SOFTWARE - Hava's is basic. They have three video sizes, 1x, 2x, and full screen. For the fullscreen option, you can't access the PVR functionality nor the remote. To rewind, pause, etc, you have to get back to one of the other two modes. - The Sling 2.0 software is slick. You have the option to show the remote any time and the video resizes to any size you want. Plus, the version 2 has the really slick TV guide built-in so you can use that to change channels. The only problem with that is you can't use the guide to schedule a recording. Sling now has a web version where you don't have to install the software at all. Just go to their website. Awesome! - Hava allows me to record video to my computer directly. The video is even is mpeg2 perfect to writing to DVDs. This is the main reason I bought the Hava. - Hava allows you to record to an attached USB hard drive and even schedule recordings. To record on the PC's hard drive, you have to use manual recording. The bonus on this is that recordings are generally NOT affected by the network bandwith variations that cause video/audio stuttering problems. - The Sling Pro's software remote definitely had a quicker response time. Mabye 1.5 seconds compared to 3 secs for the Hava. WINDOWS MOBILE PLAYER - I tested on my Sprint Touch Pro. Sling wins hands down. Hava's player was free but it should be since it doesn't work. The Sling's player works perfectly and video looks very good. Since the Hava doesn't work, the only thing I can compare it with is Sprint TV and that's a joke compared to Sling's mobile player. CONCLUSION If you're on the road a lot, I definitely go with the Sling but if you have maximum bandwidth and like to watch around the house or you want to record to your PC, then the Hava is the best option especially considering the much lower price.

2 of 5 Overall, the product is fair. Monday, December 29, 2008
    Robert from Denville, NJ
The main reason why I purchased this unit, was to use it as a TV tuner in windows media center so I can use it with my media extenders. The drivers required to use it in this fashion do not come with the install disk. You must search the forums to find them. In addition, it takes 2 separate drivers, one to change the channels and one to actually visualize the picture. It took over a week to get the unit running. It does NOT show true HD picture. It does not allow digital sound. It only utilizes left and right audio, therefore, you cannot receive true surround sound. They claim that a new version will be coming out in the first quarter of 2009 that will be truly HD.

2 of 5 DVR in name only, very basic functionality. Saturday, December 27, 2008
    Myself from Madison Heights, MI
I don't have an MCE PC so I'm just running the Hava standalone, and I'm disappointed in the DVR claims. There's no local user interface, you have to control it from a PC. Even from within their software, it has no program guide functionality, and can only schedule a SINGLE unattended recording, so it doesn't come close to doing what I wanted. Setup was easy and quality is okay, though I can tell I have some tuning to do yet because the blackest blacks display as bright white. The hardware appears quite capable but at present, I just don't see the software realizing much of its potential. I still haven't figured out how to play content from my laptop through the HAVA onto the TV screen. The included software is reasonably stable, not as clunky as some, but still lacks basic functions like fullscreen playback on the PC. Maybe in the future someone will write a MythTV frontend that runs on the HAVA box, but until then, it goes in mothballs.

5 of 5 Great product for the price Friday, December 19, 2008
    Steve from Gadsden, AL
I paid $99 shipped but see the price has gone up on Buy.com. Still a fine product for the price. My wife used to complain when watching TV in the kitchen. She only had extended cable and no recordings. Now she can watch anything available on the main entertainmenet system. They said you couldn't run hdmi out of the cable box to the TV and component to the Hava. This was not true on either of the Motorola boxes I run and would have been a deal killer. I'm running component to the Hava and Hdmi to the TV - no problems. Boxes I have are DCT-6412 and 6416. If you have different boxes you might want to check. I would not give up Hdmi to run the Hava. There is an approved list for external usb drives. I had a Cavalry 500 gb usb 2.0 drive I wanted to use and the Hava wanted nothing to do with it. I liked it well enough I would have purchased a second to run with my second box but they tell me only one is seen so scratch that idea.

    5 of 5 Didn't get slingbox Sunday, October 19, 2008
A Customer from wappingers falls, NY
I waited a while to review this so I could see how I like it, but I really enjoy having the hava titanium hd. The quality is much better on the local network, and you can't record when you're connected to a remote hava, but that's not a big deal for me. The remote viewing quality is still very watchable, but not the dvd quality it gets on the local network. They removed the usb attached storage option on the latest software version, but that was due to some bugs. They expect to have it running soon, and I have a hard drive waiting when it's available, but I can't review what I haven't used. I also don't know what kind of wireless performance it has. It has more features than slingbox, was cheaper, and it was very easy to setup. Going with hava was an easy choice for me, and after a few weeks I still haven't had any issues. I hope this helps.

5 of 5 Great quailty once set up Saturday, October 18, 2008
    mark a. from Stafford, VA
I mainly bought this so I could view content from one DVR around the house. At first it didn't want to work across my LAN. It would keep loosing connection to the box. I finally narrowed it down to it not liking one specific Trendnet Switch. When I bypassed that It worked like a charm, great high definition picture and sound over my 1GB copper backbone. However, I was having the same problems when I went outside and tried to access it remotely. Again, I tracked it down to my Vonage router. I swapped it out, and it suddenly started working. I don't have a sniffer to diagnose what was happening. All that being said, however, now it works like a charm. I looks good remotely, and perfect over the LAN. It's very easy to use, and much cheaper than paying for multiple cable DVRs each month. I'm not sure, but I think my problems may be due to downloading the latest software version. Try it with the version in the package first, it seems other users had fewer connectivity problems with it.

4 of 5 Not bad for the price Saturday, October 18, 2008
    badbitorc from San Francisco, CA
I got the unit to work painlessly. I have not been so happy with the intirgation with Vista. The windows media center tv option won't recognize the IR blaster so you must use the Hava software. This is fine unless your entire purpose is to watch football at work! Since I cant install the Hava software on my work computer I was relying on the windows option to stream to a web address. This way I could watch from any browser without software. As it will not recognize the IR blaster this is not possible. I have ordered a usb cable and this may solve the problem. Also the quality was better without an HD hookup than with.

4 of 5 Does what it says Tuesday, September 30, 2008
    tarrantm from Boston, MA
It works well after a firmware upgrade. The support staff on their forums respond fast. However, I wish there was more documentation on how to get this to work with Media Centers other than just the Windows one. I am running TVEngine3 (from MediaPortal) and there is absolutely no information on how to get this thing to work with that. If documentation was good, I'd give this a 5 out of 5. Since it is lacking, it gets a 4.

    5 of 5 Exactly what I needed Tuesday, September 23, 2008
    Dave from Orlando, Florida
Plugged unit into my DirectTV HD-DVR Component video output and DirectTV SD-DVR S-Video output. Installed viewer software on my HP T9300 Entertainment Series laptop with 20" display, 2.5GHz Centrino Duo CPU with 4GB Ram and 677MHz bus. Installation was a breeze, software and HAVA unit worked out the network settings through my Lynksys wireless router behind the scenes, only needing my intervention to provide security codes for WAP network access. I was up and running in no time. Video quality is pretty good. Using the HAVA desktop player with 5 second queue, video and audio are reasonably stable and synchronized. Using Microsoft Media Center with 2 second queue, video and audio can get a little out of sync and the video will jerk to recover. Only noticeable in full-screen mode though and it's not unbearable. It would be nice if the unit had more than one set of audio inputs - one for each of the video inputs. You have to use an external switch to change audio sources but HAVA provides for switching video inputs remotely. For a little over $110 more (Sept 2008) the Slingbox provides both audio and video switching on their HD unit.
