I really enjoy this device. I already researched my computer and found it was HDCP compliant and compatible with this Blu-ray burner, and had no trouble installing it. And at this price, it's less than some internal ones that I didn't want to toy with. The only complaint I have about it is that it rarely ejects when I push the eject button. I either have to use some piece of software with an eject option, or turn the device off and then on again, and then it will eject. Anyone else have that problem? Good thing this has a power switch on the back, unlike my older HP DVD burner. And I did have to buy the pretty expensive PowerDVD program to watch Blu-ray movies, but that works well.

Everything works - reads HD-DVDs, read and writes Blu-Rays. An it is EXTERNAL! currently is best deal for the money.

This unit is easy to use. Just plug and play. No complicated setup requried. If you have good AVCHD and Blu-Ray editing software you will see fantastic results with compatible cameras such as JVC and Sony. Another note...you can put AVCHD format on standard 4.7 and 8.5 double layered DVD disks and achieve beautiful HD results. The key is to make sure your home DVD player accepts AVCHD as well as Blu-Ray formats. Ohterwise you will be disappointed. As for the other reviews here my computer is not HD compliant and this unit works good with Power DVD on playback in my system.

Do not get this product...only after speaking with the manufacturer I found out that you need a very high end video card....bottom line is that if a computer has this type of video card it already probably has a blu-ray...

For $199 this is a steal. It has worked fine with 3 computers, no driver installs necessary. Does not include playback software, but PowerDVD with HD works great. Your computer must have an internal display (ie., laptop, iMac, all in one) or an external HDCP compatible display (HDCP graphics card and monitor required), if you don't, check out SlySoft's AnyDVD HD, it runs in the background and lets you watch BluRay on non-HDCP computers. The burning works great, have burned 2 50GB dual layer discs with no problem.

The drive works good, but the instruction could have been better. What is not mentioned is that YOUR COMPUTER MUST BE HDCP COMPLIANT. The means motherboard, memory, & video card, or you can not play a Blue-Ray disk. It will work with a regular DVD.
