5 of 5 Good enough for the price Wednesday, March 25, 2009 Mohankumar from San Rafael, CA
I bought this product two months ago, and feeling good. No issues in term of data storage, features and etc. It's so compact, very light and good quality. We are able to use it with Vista and Windows 7 (beta). I didn't like the enclosed software, I haven't used it yet.
Cons: Bit warm, when you store larger data (10+ GB). Was this review helpful?

I'm not excited about the color but you cannot beat the value and the performance.
I just plugged it into my Macbook and ran Time Machine. Works great, no problems. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Nice for the price! Wednesday, February 18, 2009 A Customer from Glendale, AZ
I've been looking for a mass storage device for about a year, so when I saw this pop up at the price point offered I was elated! Can't beat buy.com prices and service. The HD does what it's suppose to do and is very easy to set up. Thanks buy.com Was this review helpful?

Bought this as a spare - have not used it yet. Have several others that work great, never had a problem - that is why I purchased this one. Good price, arrived quickly. Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 Exactly as advertised and as needed Monday, February 16, 2009 Peter from Madison, WI
Not a complicated product, no complications in ordering, delivery, setup or use. It does what it's supposed to, and does what I need. It's a good example of why I love to fill my modest "stuff" desires via Buy.com. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Good value Monday, February 16, 2009 A Customer from Millburn, NJ
Good value; and simple to operate. Given marginal price increments, I think, I should have opted for a model with more capacity. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great drive and a great deal Monday, February 16, 2009 A Customer from Akron, Ohio
Great for backing up my pics and music. You plug it in and it runs -- no external power source = less cords everywhere. Plenty of space, the drive works flawlessly, and of course an excellent price and incredibly fast shipping from buy.com. Was this review helpful?

4 of 5 Incredible Value! Sunday, February 15, 2009 RAREwebs.com from Scottsdale, AZ
It pays to be at the right place at the right time with Buy.com.... This is a great drive. My only issue is that when initially connected, a dialog box opens saying it does not recognize the drive. However, I am still able to move files to and from it without a problem. If it weren't for that little annoying glitch, I'd probably give it a 5. Let's face it, for fifty bucks, I shouldn't complain at all. Over all....very happy.

5 of 5 Works Great Sunday, February 15, 2009 AJ from Corpus Christi, tx
I got this product very fast. It is so small that I could carry it in my pocket and it connects with ease to Vista or XP. I also love that the 12" USB cable fits my camera as well. Very convenient for switching back and forth. Recommend 100%. Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 good investment Sunday, October 12, 2008 A Customer from Pittsburgh, PA
I already had a WD external hard drive of 120 GB. It was great, though I don't use the syncronizing feature. I simply save my stuff in different folders. I commute a lot and I work on different computers, by using the external hard drive I have all I need with me all the time, in order. It worked each time I plugged it in a different computer. I bought this second WD external hard drive to backup the stuff I have on my first one. Travelling so much, I don't want to lose my files, so I leave a back up at home. The second one is even bigger, 160 GB, it's more than what I need because even if I have lots of picture, I do not have movies, so my stuff doesn't take so much space. Yet, it's good to know that you have space to save all your files, and then more. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 The Best! Tuesday, August 26, 2008 A Customer from Dallas TX
As a self-employed computer tech, I always recommend this drive to my clients as the basis of a back-up system. I have found it to be highly reliable.
That said, the first thing I do when setting it up is remove all the software that comes with it. I use a different software package that allows me to setup backup profiles that I can specify to run either at a specific time or manually. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 The My Passport Essential 160 GB Hard Drive Monday, August 25, 2008 Billy Chipp from Henderson NV
We purchased 4 of the My Passport Essentials 160 GB units. Because of their size we use 2 of them with the Laptop. One carries nothing but data and the other we use as a catch-all for such things as we might need plus the ability to bring home data we might want from someone else. The other 2 are used to remove data from a HD we use for nothing but data. It is nice to transfer the data off the working HD until we have the time to determine what final action will be taken, burn to CD or dispose of in some other manner. The smaller size makes the job of reformatting much faster. We also liked the different colors because at a glance we know what type of data is on what drive.
Since our main computer is a desktop the first thing we had to do was go shopping for a 6 foot cable to enable easy drive changes. At this point in time we are very pleased with our purchase.

4 of 5 small portable and huge Wednesday, June 18, 2008 Richard C. W. from New York
Great price for such a big hard drive. Paid 80 bucks for it, same price as black Friday at Best Buy. Glad I got it here, one of my favorite sites to shop. No problems with it yet except I did not like the software installed in it when I got it. I did a quick format on it and solved my problem. Other than that I would gave it a 5. Unfortunately I recieved one of these as a gift and attempted to actually use it. It crashed after I loaded some photos and music onto it. No problem it comes with DATAguard software right? Well in theory, in reality you can, at you own expense, take the drive to a data recovery company, if you want your data back bad enough to pay hundreds of dollars for it. I had to reformat the drive wiping out all my data. When I complained to the service tech about losing my data I was told I should have backed it up. (I thought I WAS backing it up)
After reformatting the drive it worked for another couple of weeks before it crashed again, this time I was told to send it back and they would replace it.
I haven't bothered, since I don't want to trust my data to anything these people make anymore I am shopping for something else.
It does make a lovely coaster anyway. Was this review helpful?
