The Nikon Coolpix P50 prioritizes photographic performance by blending orthodox camera styling with an advanced feature set and operating ease. Built on a custom application of Nikon's innovative EXPEED digital image processing concept and incorporating the precision optics of a Nikkor lens, the Coolpix P50 is built to realize optimum performance and maximum image quality.

Combining 8.1 effective megapixels of resolution and a new digital image-processing engine for outstanding imaging performance, the Coolpix P50 also features a 3.6x Zoom-Nikkor lens with 28mm wide-angle capability that ably covers a range from panoramic landscapes to close-up portraits.

Electronic VR (Vibration Reduction) image stabilization compensates for camera shake or movement by unsteady subjects to achieve sharper results. Extended light sensitivity up to ISO 2000 further helps prevent blurred shots when shooting in lower light or when capturing fast-moving subjects.

4 of 5 Great camera for the price. Saturday, May 30, 2009
Charlie from Attleboro, MA

I have had my camera for a few months and I am getting more pleased with it as time goes on. I added a 2 GB SD card which gives it a significant ammount of memory, to take many pictures. The movies are way better then my previous more expensive cameras. I wish the batteries were stronger but at least they are cheap and easy to replace. It sold for a Fantastic price.

5 of 5 Intuitive & Works Well Wednesday, April 22, 2009
Pete J from Oakland Twp, Michigan
I have only had the camera for 2 weeks. I haven't yet opened the user manual! I Loaded in a 2GB card and started taking pictures in the auto mode. My previous digital camera was a Canon A570 my son owns. The Nikon has a brighter and easier to see display so I tend to use it more - the Canon required me to use the viewfinder because the main display was washed out. The Nikon's controls are intuitive if you have used a digital before and the picture storage rate seems fairly quick. I haven't yet run down a set of AA's that came with the camera yet. So far excellent.

5 of 5 I like the wide wide angle Tuesday, April 21, 2009
Tom from Detroit
I wish it was more mega pixles BUT 8 is plenty. Its easy to use and simple (my last camera was a nikon and had similar controls, so I might be bias, but I like the controls better than my similar samsung and my canon. I like the size and the look (Black), I have big hands and my smaller camera tends to shake because it too small for me to hold securely (and the nikon it still fits in my pocket) I really like the wider wide angle, Ive had a bunch of digital cameras and it has the widest zoom. I bought it refurbished, it looks brand new and works fine, i think i paid 100 bucks great for the money.

5 of 5 great everyday camera Saturday, April 18, 2009
Jennifer from Madison, WI
I'm not a serious photographer by any means, but this camera has been great for every day pics. Macro mode is very clear, and overall I've been very satisfied with this. Great price too! There's not much space at all in camera memory, but with using a memory card that's easily fixed.

4 of 5 Great little camera for the price Tuesday, April 14, 2009
John from Clarkston, MI
This camera was purchased to replace a temperamental higher end camera... I really just needed a decent "snapper" that puts out a decent pic and I got that in this Nikon. It's not my 1st Nikon but 1st digital... Of course I would have liked more zoom and a more powerful flash but I kinda knew for the price what I was getting... Decent sized display, easy to use, nice features. If I had anything negative to report... it would be the off button is too close to the trigger. But even that is just something I need to get used to...

5 of 5 Perfect Camera for casual user and traveler Tuesday, March 31, 2009
Jerry from Alexandria VA
I have a Canon S5IS with more feature, but wanted a smaller quality camera for travel but still able to take great photos. Frankly, most of the 'advanced amateur' cameras (like my Canon) take so long (possibly never) to become proficient at all of the settings. The P50 is a great compromise. The Auto setting is great for most average shots, and the scene selection menu provides great options for indoor, night, low light, beach, backlighted, museum, etc. shots. On a recent trip to Guatemala all features got tested and I found the camera extremely easy to use and the photos turnd out great. Just the right size, and has the added stability of a 'grip', uses AA batteries, and with a 2GB SD card I took 200 photos and only changed batteries once. And the price ($89.95) can't be beat. Buy this camera.

5 of 5 Solid Value Monday, May 05, 2008
A Customer from Albuquerque, NM
Bought this P50 to replace a dropped in the sand Nikon CP21. Cost $20 less, with 3MP larger CCD, add'l time-lapse function, add'l optical viewfinder. Uses same 2xAA batteries and SD/SDHC memory cards. Simple to operate and program for advanced special scene settings. Picture Perfect Software is excellent, especially the add'l included PanoramaMaker. Image auto-focus and LCD display in bright sunlight both excellent. Movie camera feature also excelent, allows zooming in/out while shoting. Minor negative is instant push-on button on right-top of camera - turns on easily in case. Nikon P50 still won't enable user-selected RAW (uncompressed) image capture/save format. P50's best compression/capture/save mode is 4:1, with user options for 8:1 and 16:1 compression/save modes.
