4.7 of 5 Great player that did not last 10/13/2009
John from Tacoma, Wa.
I have had this player for a couple years, actually we have 2 of them. One of the players will no take a required firmware update. At this point its a brick. I am a tech guy so I have went out and done all that I can find to make it work again short of replacing parts. The player tells me that there is not enough space to update the firmware, seems odd since I have formatted it. I have to say that they are great players but like they guy below it is 130 to get this one repaired or just replace it with something else. When you can find these now for under 100 its no good to get one repaired. Only thing is, its a gamble for how long it will actually last since its a 1st gen. Undecided...

2.7 of 5 Zune good, but has problems 11/29/2008
from Demotte, IN
Reading these reviews, I just spent an hour and a half on the phone with microsoft trying to get my first gen zune fixed and in the end, they want me to pay $130 dollars to send it in and have them fix it because their Firmware broke. Now the zune is great, but the support is terrible. I would suggest making sure you don't get the 1st gen kind 30 gb zune. The others probably are fine, but this one is terrible!

5 of 5 loved it..right until it broke 6/13/2008
D300 from Marion, OH
I got a lot of good use out of my zune. its a great product that i would highly recommend. the only problem i had was after about a year of owning it, while charging it over night, i woke up to the LCD screen shattered. after reading more about it i was able to find out this is a rare defect in the 1st gen zune. for for only 50$ more i was able to get a 2nd 80gb zune. bottom line, awesome product, IPOD who?

5 of 5 I love my Zune 3/6/2008
from Seattle, WA
It is very powerful and has all of the features that I was looking for. It is a beatiful little machine. It was very easy to load all of my music and photos from my desktop. I use it almost everyday and always when I go to workout. Microsoft has always done well by me. I'm sold of this little gadget.

5 of 5 The best digital multi media player I own! 11/23/2007
Edgar C. from Syosset, NY
I love the user interface from both, the PC and Zune. A lot better than my 30GB iPod video, in my opinion. The control on the device is easier to use, too. What you click is what you get. No more fumbling of your thumb to hit the exact option you want as in iPod. The sound and video are stunning! The earbud is easy to manage, too. They magnetically attach to each other, back to back. Thereby, half the effort of managing the wire. With a slight touch of finger, you'll know which bud is left or right. Thanks to the little bump of the right bud which serves as a lock with the other magnetically. The FM radio is uncomparable. I am in my basement and I get a clear signal. It beats my stereo system, which I don't get any channel without the antenna. My feeling is that the whole chassis of Zune serves as antenna. Just amazing! There's none better than syncing in Zune. You have total control. You can pick and choose what goes to the device. Then delete what you want in the Zune. No more question of deleting the copy from your source. Oh, it automatically converts and plays iPod's video format, too during syncing. And with Buy.com's very low price, what else can beat it! Friends, this is a lot better than my 30GB video iPod.

5 of 5 Zune is so much better than iPods!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 9/11/2007
from Florida
I got my Zune for 150.00 from woot.com. I have to say it is the best MP3/Video player ever. The best part about the Zune is the software. All of your music on your computer loaded in Windows Media Player library is transfered to you Zune in lightning speed. I had over 2000 songs on my computer and it took like 5-10 minutes to load. All of my play lists were loaded as well. Then everything was organized and all the album art was there too. The FM transmitter made by micosoft is the best transmitter ever. I get no static and it never cuts out. I am going to buy another one this Christmas.

5 of 5 my zune review 8/25/2007
adam sorrels from grand coulee, WA
ok, the only thing that can be said about the zune is bad ass. i love the zune, it's so much easyer to use then the i-pod. once you have a zune i-pods are crap. but the one thing that sucks about the zune is the customer service. misrosoft customer service sucks for the zune. my screen cracked because of flimsy parts and they told me that quote "we donn't cover cracked screens in our worinty".

WELL LETS SEE NOW. I LOVE MY NEW ZUNE. FOR THE PRICE AND THE QUALITY OF GETTING IT SOMEWHERE ELSE I DONT THINK THAT I COULD HAVE FOUND IT SOMEWHERE ELSE. THE DELIVERY WAS QUICK AND EASY NOT ONE PROBLEM WITH ORERING. I WOULD PREFER TO ORDER FROM BUY.COM THAN ACTUALLY GOING TO THE STORE OR ANYWHERE ELSE. I LOVED IT SO MUCH THAT I JUST HAD TO GET MY OWN BUY.COM CREDIT CARD. SO THANK YOU BUY.COM FOR MAKING IT REAL EASY TO SHOP FOR ALL MY NEEDS. THATNKS AGAIN!

5 of 5 Move over ipod 6/29/2007
Shimpy from Cowtown, NJ
Move over i-pod the Zune is bigger, brighter, and much easier to work with than anything I have seen to date. Zune software and logging into Zune.net are great.

5 of 5 Works very well. 1/24/2007
JK from Tacoma, Wa.
I have to say that the Zune is a well put together device. The interface is easy to use and the player sounds great.
The Good:
Sounds, looks, and Plays well. I am very pleased with the player. Construction is great and control layout is well designed.
The bad:
I am a software tester so I mostly notice the bad in everything. I am a pessimist in most respects on anything software / hardware related. With that said here are the things I would like to know when buying a product like this one...
1) The PC software download is slow, very slow... I installed it on my laptop and computer. Both were slow, 20 to 30 minutes each.
2) The Zune wants to have only one 'home', for everything else the Zune is a 'guest', well I wanted my main PC to be the home but had hooked it up to the laptop first. This was a mistake on my part but then again, I did not know. When I went to make the change to make the PC it's home the Zune said that it would have to delete everything on the Zune to set the PC up as the main connection for the Zune, that sucked because all the stuff that came on the Zune would be erased and no way to get it back, oh well... the songs were good but not anything I would miss, but I did like some of the videos. They are all gone now... :(
3) The Zune and Zune software hung each time I hooked the device up to the PC. The computer just seemed to freeze up to the point where I would decide to just kill the Zune software and disconnect the Zune. I wondered why it worked great on the laptop but not on the PC, then it hit me... USB 1.x on the laptop only. Not sure why my USB 2.0 ports don't play well, however the USB 1.x ports on the PC did work great, unfortunately uploads to the Zune are slower. Once I am fully synced though I don't really care. The USB 2 port was after market that I put in my Dell. That could be the problem, but who knows.
4) Pictures that are not landscape but instead portrait are upside-down on the player. Would be nice if I could right these on the Zune... alas you cannot.

Overall, I am satisfied and would not trade it for an iPod. I have never liked iTunes, or the iPod. I am not concerned with the DRM thing. I would not pay 2 cents for music I would not actually own and put on any device I like... so I have nothing to say on how well it works with any marketplaces to get music. You will have to check that out for yourself. It does play Mp3's and videos very well. Pictures look good on it too.
