The first day I got this, I put in a bunch of small receipts that probably was 15 or so, thinking that if it was too many, the thermal overload would kick in, and I would just have to wait 20 minutes. Wrong! The motor at first groaned, then took off at high speed, but the cutters were not turning. It has plastic gears, and they were stripped.
I called Fellowes, and they first said user error, but I pointed out that the user manual said nothing about overloads damaging the machine, just that they would cause the overload trigger to turn off the machine for 20 minutes. They did replace the machine, and it has worked fine since. I am very careful not to exceed 11 sheets.
It is fairly messy when you change the basket. There always is a lot of paper over the edge and behind the basket. Maybe I wait too long to empty it.
Off topic comment: Why don't they incorporate a trash compactor so you just take out little blocks of compacted shredded material? Was this review helpful?
