Enhance your Skype Internet Telephone Service with the DPH-50U Skype USB Phone Adapter. The Skype certified DPH-50U allows you to use your existing corded or cordless telephone to take advantage of Skype’s low cost calling features. Utilizing your existing telephone enables you to use your telephone’s built-in features such as speed dial, redial, mute and caller ID. Using a cordless phone even unties you from your computer while making Skype calls. Best of all, there is no additional equipment to buy to start using the DPH-50U.

The DPH-50U allows you to accept both regular telephone and Skype calls from the same phone giving you added flexibility. When you are talking to someone on your regular telephone line and receive an incoming Skype call, you can easily switch lines to take the Skype call or vice versa, just like a regular call-waiting feature. You can also do a conference call between regular telephone and Skype lines. For added convenience, the DPH-50U includes helpful LEDs to indicate whether you are receiving a regular telephone or Skype call.

The DPH-50U can be configured to forward incoming Skype calls to another destination such as your cell phone so that you never miss a call while you are away. The DPH-50U also includes a toll bypass feature that is ideal for the following two scenarios:

The first scenario is when you are in the same geographical area as the DPH-50U and want to make an international call. You can call from your cell phone to the computer that the DPH-50U is connected to and make a low cost SkypeOut3 international call.

The other scenario is when you are traveling abroad and want to call someone who lives in your home area. You would simply make a Skype-to-Skype call to the computer where the DPH-50U is connected to and use your regular telephone line to make a local call.

Features
Receive/make both regular telephone and Skype calls on the same phone
In-call switching, conference calling, call forwarding, and toll bypassing

2 of 5 Works but quality is an issue Tuesday, July 28, 2009
GL from Knoxville, TN

Unit works "as advertised". i could never get quality enough sound to use basic features on my analog phone like speaker phone. Flash features on analog handset completely confused this unit. Redial seemed to work intermittently

4 of 5 Good hardware, bad software Thursday, June 11, 2009
A Customer from New York, NY
I originally intended to connect this unit to a Windows 2000 Server. However, it kept blue-screening as soon as I plugged it in. Worked much better with WinXP, but D-Link software is unreliable. I've had much better luck with the US Robotics software referenced elsewhere. My issues have been mainly with getting the phone to dial correctly. I haven't experienced any call drops once connected. And don't count on getting your rebate from D-Link. They seem to be stiffing me for the second time. However, I was expecting it this time, and the price is cheap enough even without the rebate.

4 of 5 A good Skype card with some minor faults Monday, May 11, 2009
Dejan from Toronto
Easy installation, voice quality is awesome... the only bad thing is that the calls are being cut every 2-3 minutes what can be frustrating BUT the Skype has never worked better for me (with this thing)! pros: a very good voice quality Skype cons: call is being cut every 2-3 minutes so you have to redial (that's the only reason I gave it mark 4)

4 of 5 DLink Skype Adapter Saturday, May 09, 2009
Bada Bing from Bartlett
Installed easily with latest DLink driver. Setup international numbers thru Skype with 2 digit dialing. Some backround noise was mentioned by callers on the receiving end in Europe but other then that no problems.

5 of 5 Once configured, works great! Wednesday, May 06, 2009
Fixitguy from San Francisco CA
After trying unsuccessfully to download latest 1.1 driver from D-Link (D-link's link to driver is apparently "broken"), I followed lead of other reviewers and downloaded drivers for a virtually identical device marketed by US Robotics. Their driver engaged with Skype 4.0 properly, but because the Skype 4.0 interface sadly no longer supports "speed dial to Skype contacts" (it supports speed dial only for Skype-to-Go calls, which is a different function), I had to revert to Skype 3.8, which does support speed dial. Having jumped through these hoops, it seems to work perfectly. It is even compatible with my 25-year-old Demon Dialer, which is invoked with a single press of the # key. By pressing # twice in quick succession, this device (rather than the Demon Dialer) kicks in perfectly. Note: if you have Skype-out, you can call fones using Skype 4.0 by the dialing the thirteen digit number. You cannot, however, call a non-Skypeout contact w/o using speed dial. Therefore, it is strongly advisable that you revert to 3.8.

4 of 5 Easy, easy, easy. Wednesday, May 06, 2009

It all worked well and the calls come to the home phone. I am now considering changes in my local and long distance service, since I can use skype to make these calls.

5 of 5 Great gadget for skype call, the driver need updat Sunday, April 26, 2009
super from Madison, WI
With this adapter I am able to use my regular panasonic DECT 6.0 cordless phone to make skype call. A big improvement from using my video cam's microphone and sitting in front of computer all the time, my friend said our conversation is more like phone-to-phone call now. However,I could't get d-link's driver work, the driver kept crashing all the time during connection and right after. After googling, I found a driver designed (search for au-600 skype driver 1.4) for a similar device using the same chip-set. The device works very well for me with the new driver. Occasionally I need to reset the device to clear the noise from the dial tone, other than that I have no complain. Just see how long this thing will last. BTW, I am using windows XP pro. the driver only supports 2000/xp/visat32,there is no Vista 64 driver. I bought this from buy.com with a rebate so the final price is cheap. If not for the driver, I would give it 5 stars for its value for money. Recommended. .

3 of 5 Technology still needs to be improved – Keep your Friday, April 24, 2009
Ferb from Omaha, NE
If Windows XP updater suggests a new “Zoom virtual audio” or similar Zoom update, DON’T ACCEPT. I installed it on a Windows XP Professional machine and am coupled to Cox broadband internet cable service. Installation was easy. I did the following: 1. Followed advice, ignored the CD and downloaded the Vista driver and installed it. 2. Loaded Skype 3. Connected the DHP-50U to the USB port. 4. Rebooted the machine and the little blue phone was in the tray. 5. Used the Skype “Echo123” to test it. The sound quality is good for the time it works, but some words get cut off. Sometimes it just fades away. Skype help website identify network performance as the culprit. They may be correct and others may have better network performance and the lucky fortune of clear and uninterrupted calls. Unfortunately, I am stuck with the cable ISP provider I have an unable to test it with another network. With the price I paid after the rebate I would buy it again. Even if the lack of quality proves it impractical to use, I love the concept. Maybe someone will discover a setup procedure that makes it better. THEN THE MISTAKE: After all was done I thought I would update Windows XP. Under found new hardware it suggested a new Zoom Audio driver. I made the mistake to accept. It replaced the D-Link DHP driver. I could not find, delete or replace the Zoom driver. I was forced to use a reset point from before I started the original installation and do it all over.

4 of 5 Works, but not as well as I'd like Wednesday, April 22, 2009
Kyle from Chicago, IL
The product works as advertised, however it has problems when dialing from a regular phone. It may take two or three attempts to get the device to dial, however once the number is dialed it works great.

5 of 5 DPH-50U Skype phone adaptor Monday, April 20, 2009
John from Norwalk, IA
The DPH-50U was easy to install. The unit came with the latest drivers on CD, and only took minutes to install and to be ready to use. With my 7MB DSL, the Skype calls I've made have been as clear as my land line, with only a slight delay that's easy to compensate for. This will make a nice low cost replacement for our previous home long distance calls. I would recommend the unit if you have a good DSL connection.

3 of 5 Value for money (but need improvements) Friday, March 06, 2009
A Customer from Boston, MA
Pros - The phone adapter is easy to install and use. Simple configuration screen, no room for confusion. So that way very user friendly. Cons - 1. It gets disconnected from skype when you leave it for extended period. And then if you receive a call, skype will show call coming but you wont hear it on the phone. You can accept the calls and talk through (headphone/mic) on computer but not on the phone. This is irritating and i had to face the wrath of my wife. 2. The calls are dropped after 10-15 min of talking for no reason. You can redial and talk but expect to drop the call again after sometime. I could not time it exactly when but i guess D-Link does not want you to talk longer. 3. Another feature that irritates me is that when the call is being places, it produces engage tone (a tone that sounds you have reached a busy number or non existent number) but if you wait for a while, it gets connected and you will hear it ringing. Overall, I can live with it. But if the above 2 problems are resolved it will become the best and potentially can lead the market.

5 of 5 Works fine with the USR driver Saturday, February 28, 2009
CD from MN
Was really easy to install on my XP PC. I heeded the previous reviews where it was suggested that the USRobotics driver might be a better option than the D-link driver. Installed the USR driver, followed easy directions and everything is working fine. Have been using it for 2 weeks now with Skpe 4.0 and am pretty happy with the call quality. The price tag doesn't hurt either.

5 of 5 Works fine Monday, February 09, 2009
veeco from Whitehall, PA
I read some reviews that said the drivers were a problem for this device, but I bought it anyway after reading a review that said to use the Vista drivers (1.10) under XP. They worked flawlessly. Just extract the files, install the D-link software, plug it in, and point XP to the extracted folder for the drivers. Call quality is great and it works with a basic GE phone we got from Walmart. It even allows you to record all of your calls! This saved us a bunch of money on our whole phone system.

4 of 5 Easy to use your cordless phone with SKYPE Friday, December 12, 2008
stephen from San Jose, CA
** GOOD STUFF: - easy to install; plug phone lines and USB and you are done - one software piece - works perfectly; pick up the phone handset, press the prefix and numbers and away you go - PSTN calls come through while on SKYPE, and vice versa; hold, flash, ... all work - no (apparent) radio interference between 802.11g, DECT6, BlueTooth - all running simultaneously - no (well, tiny) audio delay PHONE-to-DLINK-to-PC-to-SKYPE-over-BROADBAND-to-PHONE; it behaves just like (international) phone calls over PSTN ** INTERESTING STUFF: - GOOD IDEA to set up quick dial on SKYPE; makes the calling much faster - SOFTWARE: you have to manually "install" that into SKYPE - not difficult but if you don't do it it don't work ... ** 'BAD' STUFF: - SKYPE calls drop randomly - but no worse than SKYP alone - PHONE makes "illegal number" noises while DLINK-SKYPE do their stuff and connect the call - annoying but not a problem

5 of 5 Works great. Sunday, November 23, 2008
Steve from Kingston, PA
I had read reviews about an out-of-date driver, but because of the low price I had to give it a try. I downloaded the updated driver, as mentioned in previous reviews I used the Vista driver, and it worked perfectly. I only use it on Skype out calls, so I can't comment on incoming calls. The only reason I put a 4 for performance is because it tends to make my poor computer work a little harder in the background, newer computers probably wouldn't be affected.

5 of 5 Works well with different driver Wednesday, August 06, 2008
A Customer from Thompsonville, IL
Before I purchased this DHP-50u phone adapter, I'd read lots of reviews that didn't sound good. But, I'd read one at tigerdirect.com that seemed particularly helpful. The suggestion was to not us the D-Link driver for the product, but rather to download the US Robotics adapter from their web site. After giving the D-Link adapter a chance, and having trouble right off, I uninstalled the D-Link driver and went to the US Robotics web site and downloaded and installed the driver for their phone adapter. It's worked ok since. I'm still having difficulty with voice mail, but I think that is an issue with some setting I haven't figured out. I gave a lower performance rating because the unit doesn't work well with it's own driver.

3 of 5 GET LATEST DRIVERS FIRST!!! Saturday, July 26, 2008
A Customer from Hampden Sydney, VA
After installing the drivers that came on the CD, I connected the device and it "worked" but left a icon and program name in the taskbar that couldn't be closed or removed. I started having "bluse screen of death" occurrences every 2-3 days for the first time with this machine. The system resources began unexpectedly draining. There was an immediate problem with other USB devices. The removal of the program via Control Panel->Remove Programs hung up and was unsuccessful. I had to return the entire machine to a previous Reset Point, download and install current drivers and things behaved better. There is still the immovable Taskbar item present, but at least system resources no longer drain unpredictably and the device functions as I need it to. Watch out.

5 of 5 Works like a charm Sunday, July 13, 2008
Neal from Cincinnati, OH
Installed the driver from the cd, downloaded the updated driver from the dlink web site (http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=466), and installed it. And it took a computer reboot to make it work properly. Have been getting calls from the internet for several days now with no problem. The main challenge to configuring this product is setting up the phone line/computer/main telephone so that the main telephone is in a convenient place. One suggested enhancement that would make this product even better would to allow the skype caller to choose what to do...i.e. press 1 to leave a message on the answering machine, 2 to call the preprogrammed number.

4 of 5 Skype Phone Adapter Helps Reduce my Phone Bills Thursday, July 10, 2008
A Customer from Riverside, CA
Works well, have had Vonage for 3 years now and was looking for something less expensive per month. Skype doesn't have E911 so you still need something like Vonage or MagicJack or a land line- low income, basic, etc. MagicJack was a dissappointment - outgoing was horrible - it's mainly a voicemail phone for me. Skype Out has been very high quality, as good as it was on pc to pc or webcam now on a phone handset. I have my vonage hooked to the landline part at the moment and it works well with that too.

1 of 5 Almost Works Monday, June 02, 2008

This is not ready for prime time. Yes, it will work but you may need to reset the device or software between each call to keep it working. Otherwise, you may need to deal with Skype issues. It is just not reliable enough for everyday use.

4 of 5 Great product Wednesday, May 21, 2008
A Customer from Bloomington, MN
Setup took only a few minutes and every thing worked nicely. The only issue I experienced a couple of times was calls getting dropped after about 5 minutes. It would have been nice if it offered more configuration options to simplify the dialing process, but overall this is a very good product.

4 of 5 Installing in Windows Vista is somewhat of a pain Saturday, May 17, 2008
A R from Colorado Springs
It took me about 4 hours to finally install the Windows vista drives. The package comes with a cd for xp, so I downloaded the driver from the dlink website. However, when installing the driver it seems like windows is not sure about authenticity of the driver and you have to continue anyway. the problem I think is related to the fact that the installation is in two parts (it would seem like the computer is repeating the steps in installing the driver but that is not the case, there are two parts of the driver and so just go ahead). After installing that, you have to go to "tools" in the menu of skype, then choose "options" and then in "audio settings" you have to choose the microphone to be the "dlink virtual audio device", and then do the same for speakers. After that the program works great Hope this helps you with your windows vista installation of dlink

5 of 5 Had problems Tuesday, March 25, 2008
A Customer from Milton, Fl
Connected unit to USB port and could faintly hear Skype test call, but it would not pass the record test. After calling Dlink for support 6 or 7 times(they were very nice,)downloading updated software and trying unit on another computer that worked fine, I happen to switch to the USB port on the back of my Dell Inspiron 2650 instead of the port expansion slot and then the unit finally started operating correctly. It seemed that there was insufficient power at the expansion port for the unit to operate.

5 of 5 Simply Amazing!!! Monday, March 17, 2008
dinoman22 from Albany NY
IMPORTANT!!!! Visit D-link's website to get the latest drivers!!! This will ensure a smooth installation and less problems down the road. Read the instructions set up was 1-2-3 easy. I've heard of skype for awhile and wanted to find out what the hype was all about, make calls for free? Computer to Computer Headset and mic is a turnoff, I wanted to use my existing cordless phone and this did the trick. I have a skype phone number and can receive and make unlimited calls, caller id, call waiting, conference, for about 60.00 a year not bad at all. I loved it so much i gave up my cell which is 50.00 a month, and gave up my bundle cable phone with time warner. Voice quality was smooth, keep in mind i live in Albany where speed test show 10Mbps download and 1 Mbps upload, and time warner has confirmed , yep its fast in my neck of the woods, im considering FIOS from verizon but afraid of their commitments, sorry to get off topic. I also have a broadband booster, HBB1 form Hawking, which is a qos packett router , it identifies voip and , gaming packets so i dont drop calls or lag online , while my phone is on. this means i can bit-torrent, make calls and play halo3 all at once. The only downside, isn't associated with the product is when you are assigned a skype phone number (which you pay for yearly) , when you make calls you are identified as unknown or 0123456789, which can scare some folks who screen calls. I call friends and family and the are used to the weird id and usually know its me on the other end. Get this if you have a cordless phone already, and a STEADY INTERNET connection and SPEED. No hardware can resolve poor voice quality ,dropped calls if your upload speed is weak like 256kbps or lower...

1 of 5 doesnt work Tuesday, March 11, 2008
A Customer from Reston,va
it does not work properly when connected to the house phone lines. I used to have vonage connected directly into the houses phone wiring. it worked fine. but this adapter frequently bugs out with a message saying "power spike on usb port" and the entire call sounds like a device shorting out and it wont disconnect until it is removed from the usb port. I have not contacted tech support so this may be a bad unit or i may be using it incorrectly.

3 of 5 Great Concept, But Needs Work Monday, February 11, 2008
Bob E. from Frankenmuth, MI
I was able to hook this up without any trouble and was impressed to see my regular phone coming thru Skype. I did find that it will drop the call sometimes after 20 minutues sometimes after 2. I would guess it drops at least 20% of the calls. D-Link needs to develop a fix for this.

2 of 5 Vista compatibility issues and rebate troubles Tuesday, September 25, 2007
Ken from McDonough, Georgia
It could not be installed on a Vista machine. I did find a Vista driver later and got it working. It sometimes fails to launch along with Skype. Sometimes Skype does not reset the sound to the D-link. Sometimes the D-link reverts to a non-Skype device on boot. To sum it up it is flaky with Vista. I have a Kinimax version of a similar device with the same chipset. In fact the D-link software works with the Kinimax unit. The Kinimax is attached to an XP machine and is a little less flaky, which might lead me to believe that the Vista drivers for the Dlink need some work (and of course so does Vista). We just got a card from Dlink yesterday telling me they they need the original UPC. Of course we sent that along with the rebate request. So, I suppose I will never see that rebate check making this a poor value. So, you have 2 reasons to avoid this product.

4 of 5 Mostly good, some quirks Tuesday, September 25, 2007
Michele from Rochester, NY
This device does what it says - insert it in your phone line and you can either make ordinary landline calls or hit ** and make Skype calls, all using the existing phones in your house. On sale, it's a good value. I've found it to be very reliable - no problems. The quirk is that when you use your phone to dial a Skype number, the D-Link produces three loud reorder tones (the ascending beep beep beep you hear when you've dialed an invlaid number) but then connects you anyway. And of course, D-Link technical support is worse than non-existant.
