The StreetPilot c340 provides in-car navigation that is simple for anyone to use directly out of the box. After selecting a destination from the user-friendly touch screen interface, Garmin’s text-to-speech feature tells users the name of the street, when to turn, and in what direction. If you miss your turn, the c340 automatically calculates a new route to the destination.

Monitor traffic tie-ups with the addition of an optional FM TMC traffic receiver. By adding traffic services and a receiver to your c340, it notifies you of accidents, road construction, and weather-related traffic delays before they are encountered, and then offers an alternate route. Simply touch the screen icon to calculate a new route.

The StreetPilot c340 comes preprogrammed with highly detailed City Navigator® NT street data of the entire United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. The database features nearly six million points of interest—including hotels, restaurants, gas stations, ATMs, and attractions.

As an added benefit, you can now import customized points of interest with the help of Garmin's free POI Loader software. The possibilities are endless — upload safety cameras or school zones, and you will receive a warning if you are traveling too fast. In addition, an optional proximity-alert feature notifies you of upcoming custom POIs.

The StreetPilot c340 joins Garmin’s growing line of automotive GPS navigators. It has a bright, 3.5-inch diagonal, TFT display with touchscreen; dual integrated speakers for high-quality voice prompts; and an internal lithium-ion battery for out-of-car route planning.

The StreetPilot c-series boasts distinctive and sleek styling—the units’ only buttons are a rotary volume knob and an on/off switch. The device is secured by a suction-mount cradle that fastens to the windshield, for easy portability between vehicles. Users can customize their unit’s appearance with an array of colored faceplates (sold separately).

4 of 5 Awesome and Prompt delivery! Thursday, August 28, 2008
vandhana from Lansing,MI

This is an awesome unit.I had ordered it online to gift it to my huband on a special occassion. The delivery was very prompt and I received my GPS much before I expected in a very good condition. It gives easy and clear directions with the voice being an advantage.Though there are better versions in the market it is definitely good for the basic needs and worth for the price.Would highly recommend!

4 of 5 Great GPS for the price Sunday, August 17, 2008
A Customer from Richmond, VA
I really like this Garmin product for it's overall useability. We just moved to Richmond and it has been awesome to help us navigate the new city. The one thing I have a problem with is that on several occasions it gave took the long route on established roads which I understand is common with most GPS systems. For example, I was driving to Tampa on I75 south and it wanted me to take back roads for the final 200 miles instead of staying on I75 (our destination was just off of I75 as well.

5 of 5 easy to use, older maps, good price Wednesday, August 06, 2008
Kanishk from Albany, NY
bought it in may'08 and have used it for a few long drives. It is very easy to use and is fairly accurate for long drives. However, if you are looking for certain businesses, restaurants etc. you might get tricked since the map version is a bit old and the business might be either closed or moved by now. You have to pay 70 bucks to update the maps at Garmin site since this is an outdated model. The solution is to call the place first before going all the way there. This has happened with me at several places in OH, PA, KY & NY. the value for money is good if you get it within 130 or so.

3 of 5 big Wednesday, August 06, 2008
A Customer from boston
this device works nicely by itself except you can't receive signal if you are driving downtown Chicago or San Francisco. the holder has an extremely bad design, after 2 months GPS started to fall down when I make a turn. it gets worse over the time, and a friend of mine had the same problem with his Garmin. I am planning to call Garmin, hopefully they can fix it.

5 of 5 Great functionality; great buy; totally reliable Tuesday, July 29, 2008
john_r from Villa Park, IL
I bought my second C340 within a year, even though many newer models were out there. The first one was a gift for my wife. She is addicted to it now. I read all the reviews I could find. Finally, I wanted the long battery life, the text-to-speech, and the ease of use. Folks, these Garmins, and the C340 in particular are just incredible for the money. The same day mine arrived in the mail, I connected to the computer and downloaded all updates, and then went with my kids on a 6-day, 900-mile, 2-state mini-vacation. I never even had to use a printed map. The Garmin cut 10 miles off a 150 mile leg of the journey in which we went one way that my brother-in-law chose, and then did the return trip that the Garmin chose. My wife and I recently put it on battery power in a fanny pack on a bycicle trip, and it faithfully gave us our stats and location. This is one of the most satisfactory purshase I have ever made, and I highly recommend it.

1 of 5 Broke in 1 week Tuesday, July 22, 2008
A Customer from Issaquah WA
Probably not fair of me to give this such a low review, but I'd been waiting for a long time to get a Garmin at a decent price as a present for my spouse. I got it for her birthday; it worked for 1 week, then it broke. We reset it, talked to customer support, etc. It's broken. We'll see how well the warranty works now.

4 of 5 A good value and fast shipping Wednesday, July 09, 2008
A Customer from Charleston, SC
The only problems I had with the product was getting sattilite reception in the Smokey Mountains. It will take a little practice to learn how to navigate through the screens. At one point in Kentucky, it tried to send us the long way around to get into Cincinnati, OH. Fortunately, my husband knew the correct way to get to our destination.

5 of 5 Garmin Streetpilot finds the way Monday, July 07, 2008
Paul from Kenosha, WI
I purchased the Garmin Streetpilot C340 to use on a trip I had planned to Maine and the Boston area. I just plugged in addresses or specific locations (like Radio Shack) and it took me right there. It wasn't always the best path but they were always good ones. And the accuracy would depend on how good your location input was. If your address was a little loosy-goosy then you might go anywhere. I recommend this item to my friends looking for a GPS unit. The cost/benefit ratio is extremely favorable!

3 of 5 the GARMIN is OK Monday, July 07, 2008
Ken from Mankato, MN
I found the unit very easy to operate right out of the box. I like how it reconfigures your route when you miss a turn, rather than telling you to turn around. However, it's not that I miss turns. The maps are very old. We went on a trip and wanted to stop at a Wal-Mart. The directions sent us to where the store was 5 years earlier. So the guy with the GPS had to stop and ask for directions! Near my home, there is a bridge and road that have been closed for almost 20 years and it insist's on sending me on that route. So I updated the software and it still shows old routes and doesn't have new ones that are 10-15yrs old! When I contacted Garmin, they have a big form to fill out that would requires almost an hour to get all the info and THEN I would have to pay $75 to upgrade my GPS. If you are traveling major routes, it's great!

5 of 5 Very satisfied Monday, July 07, 2008
Karen from Pawt, RI
I was able to open the box and start using this item immediately. I tried to trick it taking different streets home one day, it re-routed in less than 5 seconds. I have not found something I don't like yet. I rated it with an overall 5 because of this. It is better than I expected.

4 of 5 My First GPS. Worth every penny spent on it Sunday, July 06, 2008
Sagar from Jersey City, NJ
This was my first GPS. As someone who doesnt drive frequently and not much of a navigation savy person, I wanted a GPS which when put the address would guide me correctly to the place. And this GPS did do that. I took this GPS for a road trip to the west coast and to few places in the east coast.. I had very little problems with the direction and finding my way Pros: Very easy to use. Announces street names which is very useful for a new driver like me. Recalculates very fast if you take a wrong turn or go the wrong way. Cons: When i first got the GPS would not acquire satellite. It took me 40 min to get through to GARMIN customer service. They were NOT of much help either. I was going to return the GPS but decided to rent a car and try and charge the GPS using the lighter ( This was recommended on another website for such satellite problems ). It worked and i am glad i didnt have to go through returning the GPS. Take a lot of time to acquire satellite but after aquiring the satellite works very fine. Sometimes announces the turn few seconds before making the turn. Hence, I missed a few turns because of this. Map upgrade is not free like many other GPS providers.

5 of 5 Te4rrific GPS Sunday, July 06, 2008
Jennifer from Melbourne FL
Love it. Simple to use, voice commands, has 2008 maps, great deal for the price. Garmin is THE GPS company. I just wish that one could choose an alternate route and not have the system continually wanting you to go back to the route it originally chose. Other than that, I'm very pleased with the purchase

5 of 5 a great value Thursday, July 03, 2008
Brian from Landisville, PA
I bought this to replace my Magellan Roadmate which I've had lots of issues with. I like the portability of this one since it just snaps on and off of it's suction bracket. The bracket makes it much easier to adjust and use. The directions have been very clear and easy to follow. The trip settings are a nice touch with average speed, down time, maximum speed, etc. My favorite thing about this over my Magellan is it's internal battery. I actually attach the Garmin to my bike so I can keep track of my overall distance, average speed, top speed, and total time. I'm very happy with this.

5 of 5 Quick and Easy Monday, June 30, 2008
Carl from Leavenworth, KS
A friend of mine bought one and I tried it out. I liked it so much I bought 3. One for me and one for each of my sons. I have updated mine with latest software version from Garmin via the internet with no problems. This was easy to install and get up and running in less than 2 minutes. Only drawback is it's a discontinued model by Garmin, but heck who cares as long as it works and you can download new maps each year. New maps cost you.

5 of 5 Great GPS would buy again Monday, June 30, 2008
Kevin from Ellicottville, NY
This GPS is awesome, it finds roads I didn't even know existed, make sure you download the new maps from GARMIN's website. I noticed in a few small towns that have had recent costruction and or roads that have been closed the maps aren't up to date, but my brother-in-law has a much more expensive GARMIN and he has the same problem, These type of problems are generally easy to get around. The good far outweighs the bad, you do have to trust it it can save you time even in areas that you are familiar with, it knows all the shortcuts.

1 of 5 Loses Satellite Connection Sunday, June 29, 2008
Kathy from Warminster, PA
I don't know if I got a bad unit or if this model just doesn't work well. We recently took the Garmin to the Outer Banks of North Carolina from Pennsylvania. About half way there, at a critical juncture, we lost connection with the satellite. It was only reconnected on a very spotty basis. Thankfully, we had backup directions or we would have been in big trouble! Also, this one is kind of bulky, like an old school TV, not like the new ones, which are more like a flat screen TV.

3 of 5 Unhappy with Garmin GPS Sunday, June 29, 2008
Leon B from Moorestown NJ
I recently purchased a Garmin GPS. First, let me say dealing with Buy.com was a great experience (as always). My car was broken into and my old GPS was stolen in Phila.PA, so I have been shopping for a new unit. My old GPS was a MIO 220 which had no text to speech so it just told me to turn right or left, merge, ect... on the screen there was a symbol at a glance you knew which side of the road to be on- the garmin just says turn in X miles (which way?) you can reach up and press the screen and it will repeat the command but I would rather keep my hands on the wheel. The text to speech was not what I expected it tells me the name of the street not the name of the highway the name of the street is not usually visible or known. If you look for it or check a map you will see the name but it does not help while driving. The Garmin has arrival time and miles to next action. The MIO was configurable I had mine set for- miles till final dest.- current speed- and miles till next action.and one more thing with the MIO as you drove it displayed the street names you were passing ALL of them, the Garmin only displays a couple. The top of the screen on both have the next street where action in required. On the bottom of the screen on the MIO it tells you what street your on (very helpful) there is no way to know with the Garmin. The Garmin works great and gets you to your destination. I miss my MIO.

5 of 5 Works well for the money. Friday, June 27, 2008
Shaun from Boothwyn, PA
I bougt this GPS because it is very similar to the model my buddy has in his trucks, and it was on sale. I am very pleased. The directions are not always the route I would take, and there are a few local roads that are not right, but for the few long trips I took, it got me where I wanted to go. I have used the POI loader from garmin to create and load POIs for sites, and supply houses i frequent, and my Employees were able to drive right to them without calling and asking questions, or getting lost, its payed for itself already. I will probaly buy more of this GPS and put them in all of my company trucks.

4 of 5 Great value for the price Thursday, June 26, 2008
Jim from Valley Cottage NY
My third Garmin and it works very well. Likes: Easy to understand and operate. Loud enough to use with the windows open or the top down. Internal Batteries so you can use it out of the car. Big screen for the units size Great value for the price Minor dislikes: I wish the screen was a little brighter for those real sunny days. can't change pointer Icon must use supplied mount to power from lighter outlet in car. In our car (VW New Beetle Convt) bean bag mount would be more practical.

5 of 5 Good Value and easy to use Thursday, June 26, 2008
vaxmaster2 from PA
This is my second GPS. The "text to voice" (i.e. speaks street names) is very useful. Like all GPS models (and Mapquest etc.) you don't always get the "best rout" but if you are lost it will get you back home. (maybe a mile or 2 longer but get you there) which is the most important thing. It may take a while (3 to 5 mins) to find the satellites some time. (my old one is a little faster) Very easy to use, touch screen, many points of interest, and like any decent GPS if you don't like the rout or make a wrong turn it will tell you how to get back on track. Also has a "Detour button" if you don't like the first way the GPS suggest you go, push the button and it will give you a different way. As an add on and with a yearly fee you can even get area traffic. (I did not opt for the add on so I don't know how well it works) All in all a great product and I got a very good price. Highly recommend.

5 of 5 accurate, easy to use Wednesday, June 25, 2008
JC from Chicago, IL
I like this Garmin GPS a lot. this being my first GPS buy, i was not looking for an expensive model, just a basic unit. this has been exactly what i hoped for -- 1)something that was relatively inexpensive (i paid $145 shipping included), 2) worked right out of the box, 3) is accurate, 4) gives text to speech, 5) has many POIs, and 6) can store addresses. One negative is that it sometimes has "poor satellite reception" when you're downntown surrounded by big buildings. but other than that it locks into satellites very quickly and it has gotten me to every destination correctly so far.

Love this thing. I know there are more robust units but this one suits every need (how often will I need bluetooth on a GPS?). Used it on two trips already after owning < 2 weeks. My wife says it's a godsend. Highly recommend!

5 of 5 Automatically re-routes when you go your own way Wednesday, June 25, 2008
A Customer from Danbury, CT
I like to take the scenic route and that means back roads and usually the longer way to get there. The garmin automatically keeps re-adjusting to get me to the destination. I like that once I get lost, which is not uncommon, I can just let the garmin get me back on track. I also purchased the dashboard mount. It's just flexible weighted rubber feet, so it can easily be moved from car to car in a jiffy. I love it. Great purchase. Garmin has updates to the database. You just plug into your pc with the included usb cable, and it updates itself. A great investment in your peace of mind.

4 of 5 Good GPS for the money Wednesday, June 25, 2008
debug013 from West Memphis, Arkansas
Pros: small screen but easy to read, simple to use, reroutes you quickly, price was very reasonable, voice commands are good lowest price unit that includes directions by street name, very easy to disconnect from windshield mount. Cons: 2008 edition of Maps not 100% accurate(one example exit ramp 23 on I-55 has been relocated for over a year but Garmin still shows old clover leaf exit 1/2 mile further down interstate, finding your exact location with address for emergency is a bit tricky, windshield mount too short for ease of use in my F150, does not pickup satellites well inside buildings, POIs are limited. My Take: For $145 this C340 is a very good buy, it is easy to use and has a good display and is easy to remove from your auto. Compared to my Magellan Roadmate 760($300) I would say the Garmin is a better buy. The Magellan has three advantages it picks up satellites in hotels better, has better routing and is easier to find your current location complete with approximate address.

4 of 5 great buy Wednesday, June 25, 2008
A Customer from Baltimore, Maryland
I have tested a number of GPS's and they are similar in most aspects. However there is one feature I find that is very important. The voice directions should announce both the turn direction and street name. Some announce only the turn direction. Additionally the C340 has a "warning chime" that sounds just prior to the voiced directions, similar to that one often hears at airports. For me this is important as when one is driving the announcements come suddenly and unless there is a warning you miss some of the information. This feature can be turned on or off on the C340. The written directions text is large with good contrast and easily read from a distance. Two down-sides: it is quite bulky and would not easily fit into a ladies purse or a pocket. For theft protection, it is advisable to remove it from a parked car; updating maps is fairly expensive.

I'm new to GPS usage and think it's a great inovation. I have seen some of the more expensive units and like the 3d better on them. Also you have to pay alot extra to get the traffic reciever and I don't think you can can use this with the search maps on the net.

5 of 5 Great product Wednesday, June 25, 2008
Scott from Seiling, OK
I used this to go to my son's house in Branson, MO. Since I already knew how to go I thought it was interesting to see what it would have to say. The device led me right to his house which surprised him since many of his friends said theirs didn't work in part of the area. I'm not sure about the updating of the maps and the cost for that each year but the maps are current as of right now and were a great help. The suction cup didn't hold in my pick-up on the windshield but I simply placed it on the dash and it worked great.

5 of 5 Nice product Wednesday, June 25, 2008

Bought this product prior to a trip to the New England states. Worked very well, except for one segment of the trip where we ended up on a dirt road for about 5 miles. But, we got there! Easy to use. Picks up GPS satellites pretty easily. Wished the maps were not so expensive to upgrade.

5 of 5 Best value Wednesday, June 25, 2008

This Garmin has all the features you need for a less expensive GPS. It has the voice mode that announce turns by street names. Works well for first time users. The only problem you have to have an idea of where you are going. If you turn left and should have turned right, this unit just recalulates, and does tell you that you're going the wrong way. I have purchased 2 of these; a recondtioned one for $80 + shipping and a new one for $140 + free shipping.

5 of 5 Great GPS Wednesday, June 25, 2008
Jerry L. from Pinellas Park, FL
Great GPS, a couple things that I have noticed or not found that I would have thought it should have had. (Other than these little things it is AWESOME!) • Slow to initially recognize GPS signals. Takes about 15 - 30+ seconds to locate the GPS signals, during that time the GPS is 'useless'. Once it finds them it is accurate and quick with GPS signals. (Why I gave it a 4 for performance) • No speed warning, many GPS's alert you when you pass the posted speed limit. A feature I would like to have had, but definitely no reason not to get this unit. • Map updates are available for a fee. I know they have to make money, but one would think they could give a year or two worth of updates! Almost all GPS companies charge for updates, so it is not a drawback, just an observation. Great unit, many feature, only very limited 'concerns', but very happy with the unit!

4 of 5 Good buy for Old Technology Tuesday, June 24, 2008
Patrick from Candia, NH
This unit has already reached it's "End-of-Life" at Garmin. The only thing this means is that there isn't a free map upgrade. I have found the existing map to work just fine. It's a bit larger than the new slim models available but this has the features of units costing twice as much. My only complaint is that the car power adapter has not worked since day 1. The fuse blew in the panel and then the fuse in the adapter blew. I've been charging it off my PC's usb port.

4 of 5 Excellent product, but BEWARE this is a discontinu Tuesday, June 24, 2008
toyarch from Salem, OR
I purchased this GPS for my husband as a gift (June 2008). We took it out of the box and it was simple enough to use. What we were disappointed about was the map was totally out of date. It included lots of places in our town that had been closed down or no longer in existence for many years. I called Garmin and they said the maps have a 18-24 month lag time, but this was clearly older than that. I asked about updating the map to the newer version and b/c the product was discontinued, they no longer offered updates to maps free of charge, but that we would have to purchase it for $69.99. Had I known that, I probably would've spent a little more and purchased a newer model GPS, less than the cost to purchase the mapping program.

5 of 5 Good straightforward GPS Tuesday, June 24, 2008
A Customer from Schneider, IN
As long as you don't have to talk to your GPS unit you'll like this unit. I was happy to see that it has a built-in rechargeable battery. It's updateable using the USB port. It is a discontinued item so it will get long in the tooth faster but it currently serves all my needs from a GPS unit.

5 of 5 Garmin Street Pilot 340 Tuesday, June 24, 2008
A Customer from Merrick, NY
Finally had a chance to use it. Took it into NYC on Saturday. Easy to use, nice Text to speach. Lost signal in the city multiple times. I am sure the buildings are the reason. On the open road and in the neighborhood, it works great. It recalculates the directions if we decide to take a different route. So far so good. Not sure why I would need an update on the maps at this time. I will wait on that especailly for local driving that my wife does. So, for the money and ease of use, I give this little baby, a thumbs up!
