With two platinum albums, consistently sold-out concerts, a cache of prestigious awards, and a collection of hit singles (including "Bump, Bump, Bump," "Girlfriend," and "Gots Ta Be") to their credit, the members of R&B/hip-hop super-group B2K continue their unbroken string of success via You Got Served, a dynamic double dose of cinematic and musical excellence.

Like the group's platinum self-titled 2002 debut album, and the equally successful follow-up, Pandemonium, B2K's latest set is an impressive project the L.A.-based teen heartthrobs view with pride, confidence, and anticipation. "This is one of our best records yet, and since it also represents our acting debut, we knew it had to be more off the chain than ever," J-Boog advises. B2K and Chris Stokes (B2K's manager and director of You Got Served), "produced some of the tracks," notes Lil Fizz. "Plus we also worked with a few other producers like Tony Scott, J Classic, Meech, Adonis, Dexter Simmons, Ish, Big Tank, and Gousse," Raz B chimes in. "Yeah," Omarion concludes, "they helped us take the soundtrack way over the top." The B2K B2k - Music From The Motion Picture You Got Served soundtrack CD and their feature film debut continue the group's amazing winning streak. B2K represents the best, brightest and most talented of their generation. When listening to them, you know, "You Got Served" by R&B/hip-hop's best.

With a mix of "street" attitude and squeaky-clean boy-band style, B2K serve up the soundtrack for their film debut on You Got Served. Centered around urban dance competitions, the film's soundtrack features more of the R&B balladry and hip-hop dance tracks that served B2K well on their first two albums. Still reminiscent of Jodeci and Craig David, B2K triumph over their somewhat generic image with songs that mix catchy beats and lyrics with concrete, realistic sentiments. To these ends, "Sprung" is a savvy love song about falling for an older woman in which B2K opine "Baby, it's official/I'm tired of lookin' at you on my window/I peep you when you're coming home from work with your high heels on/Louis Vuitton, girl you got it going on." Similarly involving is the dancefloor-ready "Do That Thing," which finds Lil' Kim and the boys ripping into a funky tango beat and proclaiming "Get a drink and your Mova/After that we gonna get to the (Range) Rovuh." Indeed. Add in Fabolous, Rufus Blaq, M.O.P., and other guest artists who make the most of their time, and You Got Served -- to paraphrase track ten -- certainly "smellz like a party." ~ Matt Collar
Teen group B2K apparently burned bright and brief, scoring their first hit in 2002 and announcing their split in the first days of 2004. However, they go out in full blaze, starring with Marques Houston in the hip-hop-dreams/dance-contest movie YOU GOT SERVED. The foursome also logically provide the bulk of the film's infectious soundtrack--a collection of danceable, sensual rap-infused R&B songs born to fuel epic battles on the dance-floor, cut by the requisite slow jams.
The soundtrack opens with the hook-laden, hit-single bound "Badaboom," featuring an ace guest shot from Fabolous. Lil' Kim drops by, full of sound and fury, on the deftly produced and spellbinding "Do That Thing," before B2K crunks out with another angle on the Lil' Jon-led rap movement, as they "Take It to the Floor." The following three ballads remind the listener of the versatility of the young collective, and the remainder of the record is highlighted by a sweet old-school ballad by Houston, "Smile," and M.O.P.'s captivatingly dirty "Ante Up." However, YOU GOT SERVED primarily serves as a fitting final act from a talented bunch of nascent hit-makers.
