That is right - we are talking about retail GeForce 8800 Ultra, the type you actually buy in the shop. This is not just any ordinary 8800 Ultra though, it is an XXX edition (factory overclocked and at the highest end of the XFX range, which usually means top out of all the Nvidia partner brands) and trust us, by the time we finished with it, we thought that it deserved that XXX stamp well and truly....read the full review

5 of 5 Sick Sunday, December 23, 2007
Kevin from Indiana

This is the best price for the stock 8800 Ultra. XFX has the best warranty on the market, you can OC it and if its burns up they replace it. You put on an aftermarket cooler and it kills the card they replace it. You just can't beat it, I was once a BFG guy now I'm all XFX. Plus the BFG model is much more expensive. This card is basically an 8800GTX OCed and with "Ultra" slapped on and a few hundred bucks more. Running this on my 2 year old alienware rig with an old Intel D955 3.4ghz DC and 2gb ddr2 ram got me an avg or 22FPS in Crysis running maxed Rez and specs 100% well as much as you can without downgrading to Vista and using dx10. For some reason Crysis runs sooo much smoother at that frame rate than Gears of War does running maxed and 40-60FPS?? This card is extremely overclockable, I got the core clock up to 714MB vs 612MB and the memory clock to 2.4ghz vs 2.16ghz before screen tearing and the locking up of the system. So with a sick cooler you can get this way up there. Oh, it also comes with Lost Planet. The real downside to this card is that it runs hot as hell. During 3dMark06 and playing games I got it over 200F it idles at 172F. An after market cooler is almost a must or water cooling. I couldn't imagine in SLI or 3 of them your tower would melt. Lastly this thing is a monster size wise I could barely fit it into my tower and its as big as you can get them. It is 2" longer than my mobo. So all in all I give this a 5, could be better but hey. If you have a quad core your set. My CPU was bottle necking it.
