I got a widescreen monitor and the onboard video couldn't handle the new ratios. I installed the card and loaded the driver and I was up and running without any problem.
Lots of options, works great with my photoshop.
My only complaint is that I should have ordered this sooner. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Simple and sufficient Thursday, July 24, 2008 Jim Brinton from Franingham, MA
This card works like a dream. It's has been up to every challenge I have set for it, including all games.
Installation was a breeze on my Linux/Windows 2000 machine; neither OS so much as burped. Ubuntu just detected it, said "hello," and ran.
The thing is, the card is not only reasonably priced, but good enough for any use I can imagine. It installs effortlessly, and because of its heatsink design is totally silent in operation. How can you ask for more that that? Was this review helpful?

A good Nvidia card. Much better than the 64 M card that was in the system. No driver issues with XP, went in like a charm. Very crisp images and full motion video is smooth using a CRT. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Sweet Card! Tuesday, March 11, 2008 Steve from Hesperia, CA
I've got an old, slow computer and no cash, so what do I do? Buy a killer video card like this and a couple gigs of RAM, and it's like a whole new animal! I like to run IMVU, which is rather graphic-intensive, and this card handles it like a champ, even when Aero is running! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great card for the money Monday, March 10, 2008 DBK's Dad from Whitman, MA
I needed to upgrade my son's PC to play Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 and Age of Empires 3. He's not a huge gamer so we just needed soemthing cheap to get him going. He's been using ti for about three weeks now and it has hands down performed beyond my expectation. No complaints coming from him. The advanced features are a little confusing but it installed easily and I haven't had to adjust anything but the resolution. I recommend it for an older PC. The 22" flat screen we got a year ago looks amazing with the new card. Was this review helpful?

I bought this card to upgrade the on-board graphics of an older HP system. I got a new 24" monitor for a Christmas gift, and the old chipset introduced some interference at higher resolutions. Not only did it clear up those issues, I've also been able to participate in some virtual meetings at www.SecondLife.com.
But the best part is the cards dual output. I'm using the new monitor on the cards DVI port, and the old monitor on the VGA port. I've been keeping Outlook open on the smaller monitor off to the side, and use the larger one in front of me for whatever I'm working on at the time.
I gave performance a 4 due to the older technology, but it does everything I need for a reasonable price. Was this review helpful?

My dad has an older, but not yet outdated computer. Last year he bought a Samsung 226BW and had problems using it with the DVI signal. We were able to set a custom resolution on his nVidia FX-5200 to get the analog signal to work at 1680 x 1050 (native), but he still had problems with videos not showing (they were blank), and often his PC would lock up if using Windows Media Center.
I did some research and figured out that the FX-5200 does not support 1680 x 1050 for LCD's and that this GeForce 6200 does. I bought the GeForce 6200 for him as a Christmas present. When it came in, I went over to his house to install it. Because he already had an nVidia card and we had updated drivers to the latest trying to get the old card to work, the installation was plug-n-play. The first boot yielded 640 x 480 at 16 colors, but we rebooted and the card was recognized. Changed the resolution to 1680 x 1050 using the DVI signal and all was good. Everything worked as expected and no more lock-ups.
This was a great fix for the widescreen LCD upgrade and the price was very reasonable. Buy.com free shipping did take forever and a day in this particular case (have had better luck in the past), but I had already planned for that. Was this review helpful?

Sure, it's not a gamer's card, but gamers already know that, and they aren't looking at inexpensive AGP cards anyway.
I fought with the ATI Linux drivers for months, trying to get them to behave on two dual-boot XP/Ubuntu systems with DVI/LCD screens. Finally gave up, and wish I had much sooner. Borrowed an older NVidia FX5200, and most of the problems when away, so I ordered this one.
Just in upgrading from the 5200 to the 6200, Windows lost all it's settings, required loading the drivers off of the CD, a reboot, then tweaking. Ubuntu did it all automatically, loaded the new driver without even mentioning the fact, and was automatically configured to the native resolution of the LCD. I didn't have to do a thing. Zero problems so far, it even handles the clunky Linux version of Adobe Flash as well as anything I've seen. Handles DVD and AVI playback easily. I'm using the NVidia proprietary (binary only) drivers as loaded by Automatix2.
Very sorry now that I wasted so much time fooling with those other cards. This is a great choice for an AGP card if, like many of us, you are looking to sever those last ties with Windows about now. Was this review helpful?

This card is great! I'm not a gamer and was interested in upgrading my graphics card to have a more compatible picture on my 24 inch HD monitor. I watch a lot of movies and by installing this card I was able to extend the expansion from 2.3 to 4.2 which resulted in movies almost filling the entire screen.
XFXGeForce support is awesome! When you register your product be sure to create a log on ID. I've never waited more than 48 hours for an accurate, helpful response. Was this review helpful?

I had an nVidia GeForce 5xxx in my old Dell 8300 and after upgrading the operating system to Vista Business I found that the machine would lock up solid from time to time when the graphics card had to handle moving graphics. That could include videos of course but also cascading cards in Solitaire. Figuring that either the video card was defective or more likely its Vista drivers were defective I looked for a replacement card that supposedly would work with Vista. I found this card at a cheap price and decided to give it a try. It works and works well. I haven't been able to make it lock up yet and I tested it by playing a DVD movie for over an hour. The only complaint I had (and it's a little one) is that the driver CD that came with the card refused to run under Vista. It turns out that I didn't need it anyway. Vista was able to make it run at high resolution albeit slow refresh rate right out of the box. I then went to the nVidia website and downloaded the latest driver from there. That allowed me to bump up my monitor refresh rate from 60Hz to 75Hz and now everything is hunky-dory. Was this review helpful?

I got this card because my computer's onboard display controller would not handle the exact widescreen resolution of my new LCD monitor. It was easy to install, but my wife complained that the default fonts are too hard to read. Of course--a higher resolution monitor packs the same dots into a smaller space. This improved dramatically by doing the following:

4 of 5 Seems to work w/Vista but CD is useless Thursday, January 10, 2008 A Customer from Canton, GA
I bought this for my 2004-era Dell Dimension 8300. After upgrading my operating system to Vista the older Nvidia 5xxx that originally came with the PC starting locking up my entire PC when I ran something that involved movement on the screen. Obviously that included videos but also included something as simple as Solitaire. Figuring that I had either a bad video card or crappy Vista drivers (since I never had this problem with it with XP), I decided to take a chance on this newer card since the price was so low. I was able to install it and it worked right from the beginning. However, the supplied driver CD's setup.exe refused to run under Vista, even when run as administrator. No problem, the card worked anyway and then I was able to download the latest Vista drivers for it from the Nvidia website. Nvidia's site was able to detect the card and the opsys and automatically choose the correct driver for it. Very nice. I haven't exhaustively tested the card yet but it seems to work OK so far. I don't play games other than the occasional Solitaire so I'm not concerned about the performance. I just want it to work reliably. Was this review helpful?

I bought this because I bought a new LCD monitor and the resolution is not supported by on board graphic card. The performance for this card is not good even for 2d graphics, forget about 3d. Dont buy if you are buying this for gaming. the driver support is not good. I installed forceware 169.21 and performance is poor. I finally got it to work with forceware 84.21 with reasonable performance. I am not sure how good it is for gaming. Was this review helpful?

Of the plethora of video cards with which I am familiar, this one is quite possibly the best that I have ever used. I installed it just yesterday; setup was quick and easy. No need to use the manual. This video card is connected to a ViewSonic 22" LCD using a DVI cable running XP. Replaces mother board integrated video which had good video but was slow. 3 of 5 It's decent - not great Wednesday, December 19, 2007 A Customer from bedminster nj
It took days going back and forth with tech support to get the s-video output to work. After all that work, the s-video output looks terrible. Apparently that is just the way it is - the dot pitch is spaced out twice as far compared to the DVI output. If you are going to hook this card up to a TV, forget about using the s-video - it looks terrible. You have to use the DVI output.
Also, you can only select one display output at a time. Was this review helpful?

For the money, you will not find a better card. The nVidia 6200 is an excellent GPU and XFX is the best choice of all those that produce a video card based on this chipset. XFX will even provide the overclock software - and if you melt it they will honor the lifetime warranty. Find that somewhere else! Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 Works great! Wednesday, December 12, 2007 A Customer from Los Angeles CA
I finally got a widescreen LCD monitor for my old 2ghz PC. It was an older VGA-only model so I decided to get an AGP card to make the display look right, since my computer's on-board video card couldn't be set to the monitor's default resolution (1440x900). The detail is a huge step up for me and the added bonus of the S-Video port has been great for watching media on my regular television. Since there's no cable or satellite at my home, I watch a lot of streaming movies and other online video (Netflix, ABC.com, etc). I think it's slick that this card "blows up" to use the full television screen when QuickTime and Windows Media videos are played while keeping the LCD display normal. My girlfriend watches online telvision shows I hate, so I just keep the media player in the background while I surf the net or check email and she can't even tell the difference between normal TV and the signal coming from this card. I also play older games on it (Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Doom3) and it looks great. Recommended! Was this review helpful?

Installed easy, WinXP recognized drivers etc.
However, I goofed on my first install in that I not only removed my old 'NVIDIA' folder for my old FX5200 vid-card, but I also had the bright idea to remove a folder named 'nvid.TV' or something like that, and that is a BIG NO-NO and doing that messed-up my whole system and I had to reinstall WinXP. My bad!!!
Must read instructions thoroughly first and ONLY uninstall the yellow 'NVIDIA' folder and nothing else.
So, after reinstalling WinXP my computer recognized the new XFX 6200 vid-card without a problem. However, I still downloaded the older 84.21 Forceware drivers (you can get them at either the NVIDIA or XFX main sites) because I have the XFX 6200 vid-card installed on an older (2001-2003 A-Open(Acer) AX45-V) 478 pin socket Mobo that I use to run older programs and games on. So far, the XFX 6200 works great!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Also, I got very fast help from XFX Tech Support and they advised me of a few things and gave me a link to get Driver Cleaner from guru.com (something like that), but I didn't need that anyway and used XP's Add-Remove Programs to get rid of my 'NVIDIA' folder. So thanx a lot for the help to Kevin et al at XFX Tech Support.
This XFX 6200 vid-card is great and does not have problems with older programs and games. I also bought both the XFX 512MB DDR2 and 256MB DDR2 8400GS vid-cards for use in my newer system(s).
Have a good holiday season, Chris in Detroit Was this review helpful?

I have a Dell E156FP flat panel LCD and this video card will not work well with it. Specifically, each time my monitor comes out of standby (power saving mode) the monitor goes through it's Auto Adjust process, which takes about 2 seconds, but is highly annoying (lots of shaking and blinking). This was never a problem with my previous Nvidia card. I contacted the manufacturer of this card and it took them 3 full business days to respond at all. Then I followed their exact troubleshooting suggestions and it didn't work. I told them this and they responded later that same day with this: "Hi, make sure your motherboards BIOS, chipset, sound, network, and etc. drivers are all up to date. Also we`ve seen issues with standby mode for a long time. I recommend for the time being to sway away from using any sort of standby options. The standby feature is provided by the acpi/apm devices on the motherboard." I checked and found that all of those things were already up to date. For me, it is unacceptable to have a video card that won't allow standby mode for my monitor. I've always had good experience with Nvidia cards so I'm hoping this is just a fluke. I'm going to try a different one. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Be carefull installing Monday, December 03, 2007 A Customer from Sedalia, IN
I bought this card at the suggestion of the man who helped me put my system together, so I had the benefit of his experience with this card.
The 1st time he installed it, according to the directions enclosed, his machine went into a boot-up loop. Would boot up and start to load the drivers for the embedded graphics, then the video card drivers would kick in and reboot the system. He finally uninstalled the card drivers, let the machine boot to the embedded drivers, then installed the drivers downloaded from the Nvidia site. Worked fine after that.
Other than that I've been very pleased with the card. Was this review helpful?

I bought this card to replace a simular ati card that took a dump on me only after 6 mo..so I went to nvidia to see if what people say about them are true, and so far I think they are, it plays all my games like command and conquer gen. and all my call to dutys and a few others that some people told me that my system would play, they were wrong. This is a good strong card for the price,I am very happy with it , and if it dont crash out on me I plan to get a new pc with even a bigger nivida card.but for now this is a the little card that could. oh and its on a dell dimension 4500, with a 1.85 pentIV process, and just 765 mb of memory. runs good and no hang or stuttering while playing games. 5 of 5 A nice little buy Friday, November 30, 2007 Frank from Omaha, NE
I bought this card to upgrade from my on-board graphic chipset.
Installation was a breeze, getting it started was a little cumbersome due to settings that had to be made in the BIOS before I could see anything on the screen.
It is not a gamer card by any means, but is good and robust.
I tried an ATI Radeon 7500 before this one and had only trouble.
The XFX performed topnotch without even once calling customer support. The warranty is probably unbeatable. Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 High performance old tech video card Thursday, November 29, 2007 A Customer from New York
This is not a PCI-Express X16. This is a high performance video card utilizing AGP 8X technology for upgrading older motherboards. Make sure you know how to remove the old card by sliding the plastic lock away from mounting plate of the case before you lift up your old AGP card, otherwise you will crack and damage the AGP adapter.
