5 of 5 Awesome solution for Apartments Thursday, July 16, 2009 Graphix80 from Santa Ana, C.A.
Late one night, I was playing a little Gears of War, when I received a knock on my apartment door. My next door neighbor was complaining about the noise. I already thought that I had the level pretty low, I guess not enough. So that led me to the purchase of this awesome little gadget.
First off, the price may seem pretty steep, but you get what you pay for. The 3d sound is almost as good as my surround setup. Bullets sounded like they were whizzing all around me. Music was deep and full. The best part, I can turn up the volume without complaint.
The only minor complaint, wish this thing had a rechargeable battery built in, but I already have a bunch of rechargeable batteries lying around so no real problem. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 best headset I've ever owned Wednesday, May 06, 2009 A Gamer from New York
From the get go I was blown away by the performance. The only annoying thing is when there's no sound from a game or movie you here a slight hiss but it goes away as soon as movie or game sound comes back. I've heard sounds I've never known excited in gameplay. People cannot sneak up on me any more. Worth every penny and shipped very quickly. Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 Must have for serious gamers Monday, January 26, 2009 Fred from Houston, TX
Having the headset is great for online play. You can hear where your enemies are coming from. The X4 works great and is easy to use. I wish is was cheaper, otherwise it's a must have for serious gamers. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great headphones hidden in the wrong category Monday, January 26, 2009 C from Bay Area, California
These are headphones, not a game. But whatever. They work remarkably well, and most 3D positioning is as easy to figure out as if you were listening to my full size surround set up. There's a small amount of hiss which is acceptable for all but listening to quiet classical music, and then there's the hiss/static introduced when you plug in the xbox headset port to the headphones/mic input. The amp they use, or perhaps the output from the xbox, has a much louder noise floor. In a loud war game, it's not too bad, and the advantage of the awesome mic and crystal clarity (not to mention auto adjusting volume so you can always hear them over the game) are worthwhile, but on quieter games you'll want to disconnect the mic input unless you really need it, as it's much too noisy/staticy.
The bass boost works very well and with it on you really don't miss those giant subs shaking the whole house any more. I can finally play late at night and still have an audio advantage (hearing footsteps, etc in the game)! Was this review helpful?

Let me start by saying I am very picky about my electronics. I usually spend weeks reviewing products or testing them in store before buying. I was a little hesitant, like in other reviews I read, on spending this amount of money for a set of headphones for use with the Xbox 360. I am not a hardcore gamer. I typically play first person shooters and I was looking for a decent set of headphones that I could use late at night without waking the family. The key for me is that I wanted integrated chat and wireless. The wireless and Dolby 5.1 is quite impressive. I heard sounds in the game that I did not even realize were there until using these. It is definitely true that when there is no audio being played, there is a slight hiss, but when in-game it disappears. These have definitely improved my game as well. On a scale of 1-10, these are about a 9 on the comfort scale. I can not give them a 10 because Turtle Beach could improve a bit on the breath-ability of the ear pieces. After a few hours of gaming, I begin to notice the heat building around my ears. It is not something that would deter me at all from purchasing another pair however. And hey ... it's the price you pay for a soft durable padding that fits extremely well.
These are not strictly for the Xbox 360, though the headset and chat integration is key for 360 gamers. These can hook inline with your receiver as well, allowing you to pipe any audio you have hooked up to your existing system. I have not taken advantage of this yet, but I do plan to.
Overall, I am EXTREMELY pleased with the purchase. I have already recommended these to a handful of my friends and people I game with.

5 of 5 My husband loves the Ear Force X4s and so do I Monday, January 12, 2009 A Gamer from KC, MO
These headphones are great. They have quality sound. And great for me too because now I don't have to hear the game he is playing! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great wireless Dolby 5.1 (Simulated) Headsets for Thursday, October 16, 2008 A Gamer from Boston, MA
I live in a flat with poor sound insulation, so my neighbors below hear my 5.1 system when playing loud games. I love the fact that I can connect these to my XBox 360, and still get the digital 5.1 Dolby signal processed and presented in the wireless headsets with good spacial simulation of separate speakers. I was surprised I was able to really distinguish rear and front satellite sources. The base unit which does the 5.1 decoding and IR transmission to the headset is connected to the 360 via. optical out (with an optical pass-through to any existing AV receiver). It also has RCA input jacks for Dolby ProLogic signals. The headset is powered by two AAA batteries (I bought rechargeable ones to replace the non-rechargeable kind included with the kit) and includes an XBox Live mic connector that wires the headset to your controller for XBL audio.
I initially had some trouble with it, in that I didn't hear XBL audio over the headset. I noticed I could still transmit, but just not hear others. I found that disconnecting and reconnecting this assembly somehow enabled XBL audio. Was this review helpful?
