| Elliott Landy has his finger on the pulse of the Woodstock generation. He was there before the famous festival, hanging out with Dylan and The Band; he was the photographer of record at the festival itself; and he still lives in Woodstock today. Here he captures and preserves the true vision and pure essence of that incredibly influential event - what it was like to be part of the ''60s, sharing the spirit of unlimited hope, optimism, and the belief that the world can be made better through peace and love. |

From the Publisher:
Presents the author's photographs and personal account of the Woodstock music festival in 1969, providing an in-depth look at the musicians who performed there. |
Annotation:
In Elliott Landy's photographs, the "Woodstock vision" isn't only about a 1969 rock festival in Upstate New York. To Landy, who served as the festival's official photographer, that vision also encompassed the message, the music, and the worldview of an entire generation. Though he does include some images from Woodstock (both before and after the rain), Landy's B&W and color photographs, which begin in 1967, depict the entire era: a morose Janis Joplin at a party, a reflective Jimi Hendrix at a press conference, an unusual shot of Robert Kennedy in a black cap, Van Morrison holding hands with his wife, Bob Dylan at home with the kids, Faye Dunaway in full glam regalia, a massively pregnant Joan Baez, a very young peacenik named Martin Scorsese (who worked on the WOODSTOCK film), and a series of fascinating behind-the-scenes shots from the Newport Folk Festival in 1968. The collection also includes photographs of the march on the Pentagon and other antiwar demonstrations, and ends with an afterword by Richie Havens, who says, "Everyone now is a product of the Woodstock spirit." Nothing illustrates this better than the stunning images that continue to resonate in Landy's WOODSTOCK VISION.
