Notes & Personnel Info |  | The third in the Canadian-released compilation series, Women & Songs 3 collects more adult alternative chick rock into one easily digestible package. Issued in 1999, during the height of the chick rock era, the album includes songs from Cher, Annie Lennox, and Madonna, as well as artists who became famous in the '90s, like Lilith Fair founder Sarah McLachlan, Paula Cole (with her band here), Sheryl Crow, and Jewel. There is also a big focus on Canadian musicians, so people like Jann Arden, the Wild Strawberries, Natalie MacMaster, and Melanie Doane have tracks on the disc, while they probably wouldn't have had this been an American release. The volumes in the Women & Songs series can be pretty interchangeable, but if late-'90s chick rock is your thing, this particular compilation is as good as any of the rest. ~ Marisa Brown |
