WOLF? While their sound is not particularly unique in a pop landscape dotted with powerhouse vocalists from Adele to Amy Winehouse to Duffy, the Noisettes, and Shoniwa in particular, bring a modernized vitality sometimes lacking in the retro stylings of their contemporaries. And while the group's 2009 follow-on, WILD YOUNG HEARTS, represents something of a throwback to familiar pop references (the Supremes-like "Never Forget You" and the `60s acoustic-pop of "Atticus"), the balance of the album presents robust synth-based dance rock that is closer in spirit to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs--best reflected in the confident Karen O-styled strut of "Saturday Night" and the atmospheric lament of "24 Hours." | Producer: Jim Abbiss | Engineer: Ewan Davis; Ewan Davies | Musical Guests | | Shingai Shoniwa | | Jamie Morrison |
