Notes & Personnel Info
Recording information: Sounds Of Saints Studios.
Going by the tracks listed on the back, this low-budget disc from Fastlife appears to be rather different from the seven-track, self-titled EP released by Eagle Music Group, but it's not. "Intro" is the same track as "Chapter One," and "Check the Rhyme" is the same track as "Platinum ," so it's more a way to fleece fans of Nelly and Murphy Lee -- two MCs who would go on to far greater success as solo artists -- than anything else. And while there are a few tracks here that haven't been widely available, they're merely curiosities and not worth hearing a second time. The decent party track "Gimme What You Got," despite its reliance on the same beat for Scarface's "Scarface" and Tom Tom Club's over-sampled "Genius of Love," was a regional hit around St. Louis. This material also predates Free City, the album St. Lunatics released on 2001, just after Nelly surfaced in the mainstream with "Country Grammar" and "E.I." Casual fans of the MCs need not investigate. ~ Andy Kellman
