Author Bio
Jean Fritz
Best known for her biographies of famous figures from American history, Jean (Guttery) Fritz was the child of American missionaries. The Guttery family returned to the United States in 1928 when Jean was eight. She began writing for children after the birth of her own two children but at that time she was already an established short story writer for such magazines as The New Yorker and Redbook. Her autobiography about growing up in China, HOMESICK: MY OWN STORY, appeared in 1982 and was a Newbery Honor Book. A second installment, CHINA HOMECOMING appeared in 1985. She was honored with the Regina Award in 1985 and the Laura Ingalls Wilder Award in 1986--both in recognition of the excellence of her body of work.
