Western Digital Passport Portable 250GB USB 2.0 External Hard Drive

This is not just an external hard drive; it's my new best friend. Western Digital found an incredible way to encorporate style, functionality, and power into a very well made product that was a breeze to install. I'm a musician, so now I can create my songs on computer and back it up with my passport or simply save it and take it with me and conncet it to another computer to share my songs with other musicians. You can use the passport on the go, on the fly, or simply at home as a means to back up important files, or even your entire hard drive. I love that it's no power cord.

I am tranfering department and this was ordered to backup all my personal files. I have set to backup all the data from 4 different server and it works great. Very nice looking and quiet operation. 250G gives you some lag room for future use. Highly recommanded

This is being used as a backup drive, so it isn't used on a regular basis. So with the limited amount of use it has received, it has performed as expected. The preloaded software was a thirty day trial, and was promptly deleted. The case could be sturdier, but suffices. The size and styling can't be beat. Some have claimed that a single USB port does not provide enough power for the drive; this is not the case with a Dell Vostro 1500.

simple. small. easy to use. highly recommend this item! i reformat it so that it doesnt have any software. i love that it doesnt need a power chord.

I was looking for a relatively high capacity external drive that didn't require an AC adapter. This is wonderful. Not much else to say. Worked upon plugging in the USB; transfers files at about 20MB/s

This product is so paper light that i even forget that am carrying a hard drive in my pocket. Its lighter than my nokia cellphone.I recommend this product a million time over.

This 250gb WD Passport is my favorite of all the USB powered drives I own. It's easily recognized by both my XP Pro & Vista PC's and unlike another brand it did not give my PC the blue screen of death. I also like that it's quiet, lightweight and incredibly small. The only thing I wish was included by WD is a basic pouch for it. The case scratches easily which shows up really well on the shiny black surface. WD offers one for sale for about $20.

So far I am happy with the hd. I have had many of the smaller versions of the drive. I bought many of the 160GB versions and removed the drive to install in PCs and used the smaller drives as the ext disk. The only thing I do not like is that the plastic enclosure can snap it's clips when removing, if you plan on keeping the drive in the case then no worries.

I would have given this product all fives except the unit came configured as a FAT drive with limited size partitions. I found this out when I attemped to back up my entire laptop. The reformat to a no partition drive (NST??) was not very difficult, but I would have preferred for the drive to be non partitioned out of the box. Knowing this up front will hopefully save someone else some time if they attempt to save a large amount of data without first reformatting the drive. How to reformat is shown on the instructions... be sure to read them before you use the device. After reformat, the drive has performed without a problem. I did not have a power problem with my Dell 505 laptop as reported on some other reviews.

I got this drive and it works fine with my Win XP and Win Vista. Recently due to some issues it stopped detecting on My Vista Machine, But works fine on my friend Win Vista. This drive is great.

i received the hard drive in about 6 days. all i had to do was plug it into my pc and there it was, easy to use just like a big thumb drive.

This hard drive is so great. It's easy to use, portable, light weight, and the exterior design looks so cool and modern yet it keeps it professionalism. I would definetly recommend this for anyone who wants a very small, portable hard drive that can hold all their necessary information and can be carried anywhere you wish to. Great Hard drive for the price. Awesome job Western Digital.

Good price and value, the small form factor is also great for traveling. Strangely Vista really has issues now detecting plug & play devices that are as trivial as external drives. We need a fix for this... SP1? After applying some early patches it is now detected in most cases, but my older WD external drive still won't get recognized. WD and Microsoft: please, we need a fix!

Size is just right and capacity is great. Works very well with all 3 laptops I have and a desktop. 250GB in a pocket - pretty good. It is fast, and easy to use.

When it arrived, my daughter saw it and 'borrowed' it "just to do a temporary back up" and she has yet to return it. Because I do not have it back, I give it the highest rating! She's much more techy than I and wouldn't borrow (keep) something that wasn't to her standards. I wish I had bought two!

Anyone that travels should have a drive like this with image backup software. It it saved me on two overseas trips this year when my computer became useless via a virus. (same virus - long story)

Puchased the WD 250GB External Hard Drive a few months ago and I love it! I had the 80GB hard drive but it was filling up fast and it was a bit bigger in size compared to the 250GB. I love the black sleek design and can fit in my pocket so easily. I do not like the fact that it scratches easily, so I put a clear contact on it to protect it. Thought I was going to receive a bag for carrying purposes but didn't receive it or the information. I don't remember where I read that. It is a plug and play item and finds it fast. I recommend this product to anyone.

This hard drive works great. Its small size makes it easy to carry around. It also runs cool and quiet. Over 230gb which is great for storing media and backing up a computer hd. I also run software off of it and its speed is great. No problems yet.

I am heading for a cross counttry trip to Asia, and wanted to have a bit of music, and movies for my laptop. This sure fits the bill. Doubles the hard disk space, and not a lot of money. Pluged and played, as expected. When there is another sale, I will get another.

This is an excellent portable storage device. I received the product within days of ordering it and immediately started using it. Nothing complicated about it. Easy to partition and access. I use the drive to back-up my laptop computer, store my music, pictures, movies and critical files. It's quiet and convenient. Fits nicely in my computer bag for easy transport. I would highly recommend this portable hard drive.

The drive is great looking and quiet. It runs cool and if your computer can supply the power required over the single USB connector cable supplied, you will be very happy. Unfortunately I have 2 computers that can't supply enough current. I have a USB cable from another drive that has 2 USB connectors. Plugging both USB connectors into the computer solved the problem on one of my computers. However I have to use a powered USB hub on the other computer to get the drive to function. Its great having this much storage in a small good looking package, but it is unexcusable that they did not supply a cable to adaquately power the drive. Note that there is also no provision for a power adapter to directly plug into the drive.

The Passport Portable 250GB works great for me. I am a photographer and it stores my entire photo archive, then fits in my safe deposit box. My only mild complaint is that it takes between two and three hours to write the 200+ gigabytes. Not really a problem, because it churns away happily in the background while I work in Photoshop, etc..
