5 of 5 Perfect little hard drive Monday, August 13, 2007
golfman76 from St Pete, Florida

This WD hard drive is very easy to use, just plug it in to a USB port. Windows XP loads the drivers automatically if you haven't plugged it in to that PC yet, then you start dragging and dropping files. Works great for backing up files and storing extra videos and music. Also, much easier for copying downloaded program files from computer to computer since it holds 20x the storage of a flash drive. Fits in your hand nicely and slips into a backpack or laptop case really nice. I've even dropped it accidentally a few times from a few feet off a desk and it hasn't shown any signs of problems because of it.

5 of 5 easy to use Thursday, August 09, 2007
A Customer from New Jersey
I was looking for a portable hard drive that can fit into a small purse and provide enough capacity for saving 2-3 weeks digital pictures/video while I am travelling. and this is the one I like. It is easy to use and fast to run. It would be better if it had its own pouch. The surface shows scratches easily when it clings with my keys in the bag.

5 of 5 No extra power required Wednesday, August 08, 2007
Tolli from Seattle, WA
No extra power is what makes this a great drive. It is fast, good looking and just requires the one included USB cable. I didn't install the included software, but it works with out it on XP and Vista.

5 of 5 Terrific value Tuesday, August 07, 2007
A Customer from Columbus OH
It's simple; it works. I've used it regularly for two months connected to a notebook. I keep files on it that I use regularly, but usually don't want to travel with. (Yes the hard disk on the notebook is also encrypted). This has been flawless. It's light and I occasionally travel with it loose in my briefcase. No problems. It has a rubber flap over the connections so stays clean. I bought a second unit for my wife to take back and forth to work and her's has been equally flawless. She carries it loose in her purse and probably abuses it more than I do.

5 of 5 Great Drive Tuesday, August 07, 2007
A Customer from Bethpage, NY
I purchased the drive to use as a back-up to my hard drive. It was the best thing I ever did. It worked right out of the box, no set-up or software to install. Works fast with little noise. The only draw-back is that it did not come with a carry-case. It is portable and I feel it will get scuffed in my computer bag.

5 of 5 WD Passport drives the ultimate in convenience Tuesday, August 07, 2007
A Customer from Franklin, TN
This is the 2nd passport I've bought. For $49 it was a no-brainer. The WD Passport drives are light, fast, and durable. USB powered makes connecting this drive extremely simple. For those who are curious, yes it is compatable with the xbox 360 as well. Great drives for the money. It also will fit in your shirt pocket.

5 of 5 Send music to a friend Tuesday, August 07, 2007
A Customer from St Louis, MO
A friend of mine lost all his CDs and music equipment to Katrina. I downloaded my music files to my Passport and sent it to him. He loaded the music on his new computer and returned the Passport to me. All you have to do is plug in and use. This thing is great. I'm taking it on my next trip to transport more files.

5 of 5 Slim and compact Tuesday, August 07, 2007
Sarah from Queen Creek, AZ
I bought this hard drive to use with my laptop and for storing video. It works great. My only complaint is that the cable that came with it for hooking it up to the USB port is extremely short and I will need to replace it. It's a lot smaller than many of the others ones I looked at and this was definitely more value for my money. It's easily portable and totally plug and play with my XP laptop.

5 of 5 Excellent External HD Tuesday, August 07, 2007
A Customer from houston, texas
very satisfied and impressed. was not expecting such a great experience because it was so easy and flawless. make sure you go through all the settings in the very, very simple to use backup software. the default files only cover basic file types like .mp3, .doc.... so you need to select backup all files for everything like for me a web developer who needs .asp files. pretty good software for it being so simple.

5 of 5 Great product and value Tuesday, August 07, 2007
A Customer from Albany, NY
The USB drive was easy to use out of the box, seems well made and has put up with my using it as a portable device. The software documentation is lacking, so I just don't use it. But the drive itself is a great way to back up various computers and files that I work with so I have ready access to them.

A Customer from Ann Arbor/MI
The drive is quiet and doesn't require extra power supply. Just plug in the USB cable and off it go. I've used it for laptops, desktops and even a picture frame with USB input. All went well. Highly recommended and will consider purchase again.

5 of 5 Great value at a great price! Monday, August 06, 2007
Sherry from Uniontown, OHIO
I purchased this 60GB USB external hard drive (not a flash drive)a little over a month ago and I was amazed at how small it was. Not only that, the read and write capabilities are just as every bit as fast a USB flash drive or an internal hard drive. I recommend this drive for anyone who has a briefcase. It is small and compact, but it may not fit in a pocket. I use it to store my portable and standalone applications so when I go to my customer, I have everything I need on 1 drive. I love it and now have no need for a flash drive! The price was $49.95 for a 60GB drive, which is much cheaper than the normal USB flash drive, which you are paying for convenience, anyways.

5 of 5 Great WD passport for the money Monday, August 06, 2007
A Customer from Las Vegas, NV
I was reluctant at first because of the USB powered feature. In the past, I purchased an USB powered scanner and it was so slow that the document turned yellow before it was scanned. However when I read other reviewers who had nothing but praise for this WD passport, I decided to give it a try. To my surprise, it truly performs exceptionally well as reviewed. The exterior drive is sleek with a shiny black color. All the installation needed was plugging it in and Vista easily recognized it. Transfer speed was fast, very quiet. It does get slightly warm after a while (15-20 mins) but I guess thats the nature of the hard drive. Overall it was an exellent purchase, especially it was on sale for 47.00 that week, and as usual the free shipping was speedy as well.

Excellent product with great price from Buy.com. Really like the design of this product. Will see how reliable it is (my previous two USB jump drives have died after multiple write/rewrites). Wish it lasts long.

5 of 5 USB cable Wednesday, July 04, 2007
Ramas from 92801
The instruction booklet mentions about 20 inch USB cable whereas the cable supplied was only 6 inch or even less, makes it difficult to connect. Other than that, everything is fine.

4 of 5 Does NOT work on Mac PowerBooks... Friday, June 29, 2007
RJ from OHIO
...but other than that, it's a great little drive (****) for PC's and other Macs. Apparently PowerBooks don't offer enough juice over their USB connection for the self-powered drives -- not a WD issue, this should be noted as I would imagine many people that choose a drive like this do so for laptop use. Another note, the 500G Essential MyBooks are an EXCELLENT (*****) buys at $200 and even better at less than that. They are outstanding performers across platforms, and have many extras that work well with Macs and OSX (like automatic sleep/shutdown). The WD backup software is okay, but there are much better freeware Mac solutions out there.

5 of 5 Does All That it Should Tuesday, June 19, 2007
jdwalker from Dallas, Texas
What can I say? This HD installs easily and quickly and does all that you should expect from a drive. I hope that I will not subject it to abuse by dropping it, but my son has had a larger capacity WD Passport for three years, and in those years of carrying to and from college on trains and buses, in a backpack, there has never been a problem. As usual, buy.com was great by offering this product (on sale) at a bargain price along with fast shipping.

5 of 5 A really great external hard drive. Thursday, May 31, 2007
Janet from Oldtown, Idaho
This product is everything I expected. It is fast for back ups and a very nice size for carrying around for use with other computers than my own. There has not been a single glitch with the plug and play feature. I have not had any problems with it not having its own power source. I would recommend it for anyone looking for some extra storage space that is portable.

5 of 5 Smarter Then Me Thursday, May 31, 2007
A Customer from Del Rio, TX
It's faster then I thought! One thing, I can't get it to go from MAC to PC/Window Medial Player to transfer music and pix easily. I guess it will take some trial and error but I'll get it. Plug and play. Easy to store!

4 of 5 It's worth the cash. Thursday, May 31, 2007
A Customer from San Francisco
The external hard drive is good. Nice and fast, no stall ups. But on the down side my iBook G4 will not read it, also in all PCs that I use it with, the device rarely is allowed to be stopped. The devise is always busy even if it's task is completed. I am happy with the drive and the price though.

5 of 5 excellent portable drive Wednesday, May 30, 2007
A Customer from Peoria, IL
This drive was instantly recognized and mounted by each of my computers (running various versions of Ubuntu). It ran perfectly off just the data (USB) cable, no need for an extra power source like with some other 2.5" drives. It looks pretty slick, to boot! :) I'm definitely happy with this purchase.

5 of 5 So Far, So Good Wednesday, May 30, 2007
joan barger from manchester, NH
I've only had it for a couple of weeks, so I can't talk about long-term reliablity. But it is fast and portable and feels sturdy, and reformating it to NTFS went without a hitch, so I'm happy with it as a portable back-up.

5 of 5 Pleased with external hard drive Tuesday, May 29, 2007
clarks4him1 from Channahon IL
This device was ideal for my situation. I need to copy a large file structure from one main computer to many others. The file structure changes often. This has greatly reduced the time required to copy the files (from ~1 hr using CD/DVD-RW to minutes). The size of the hard drive is an advantage and is easily transported; small but mighty! I picked it up on sale for ($...) with free shipping; great deal!!

5 of 5 Excellent Portable Storage Monday, March 12, 2007
Evan Roper from Pocatello, Idaho
This portable hard drive is EXCELLENT! Western Digital has always produced fast, reliable hard drives, and the "Passport" series is no exception. Having power delivered over USB 2.0 is extremely convenient. Drive works flawlessly in Windows XP-SP1 and XP-SP2, as well as any release version of Vista. Just plug it in and instantly have ~60GB of storage. As other reviews have stated, the bundled software isn't necessary, simply format the drive (FAT32 or NTFS) and you have a clean slate to start with. I bought this for my girlfriend so she could store her pictures. She doesn't have a computer at the moment, but with this, she can plug her camera and this portable hard drive in to any computer and transfer directly from the camera to the portable hard drive. Now, she can have her photos with her whenever she needs them! The drive is very fast for a portable, I achieved sustained rates of ~13 MB/s during a 15GB transfer. The drive is also very sleek and compact, even, dare I say, sexy. My home system is in a black case, and the Passport looks right at home sitting on top. Overall, this is a fantastic product, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for large, fast, easy, portable storage. Larger capacities are available for those who need it (up to 160GB in the same form factor, up to 1TB in the "My Book" series). Price is a little bit expensive compared to some other portable hard drives, but most others require an external power adapter, so this drive is well worth the few extra bucks simply for that feature. You may want to find some sort of case for the drive, as the high gloss finish looks as if it may scratch easily if not taken care of and carried around often. Wonderful Product, good job Western Digital.
