Very easy to use. I use it to storage music and videos. No problems. Except for when i tried to transfer a large file posibbly over 20 gigs. I got and error which ended up corrupting some of my movie files. It was my fault i think so far no problems since then. Still think its a great product.

althought I had read very good comments about this portable hard drive mine stopped working just one week after I received it. I did download a lot of music and videos (about 100 Gigas) from my P.C and after trying to open it for the 2nd or 3erd time did not open anymore. It is not recognized by the computer and after trying to open the archives for about 20 minutes blocks the computer and have to disconnected or reboot the P.C. i am going to return it and hope they replace it with another one.

Excellent drive and value for money. It comes with fast read/write access time. This drive also has what-called 'WhisperQuiet' Technology and works quieter than both my Seagate and Hitachi drives. Very recommended product to those who work mainly in outdoor environment as Elements feels more rugged than WD Passport.

This drive does not look as fancy as the other Western Digital Portable HDs but it is just as effective and to get it for 70 bucks was an awesome deal!!!

Works well with Windows. Had to format it to FAT32 in order to use with Apple OS. Overall good value.

I really like this unit. I backed up my old PC on this unit and I have all files I created whether I need them or not. It also give fast access. It took longer to get it out of the box than anything else. The unit is small and USB powered. I like the rubber on each end. other require a power supply. This one is totally portable. I feel I got my money's worth. If you need a drive this is the best portable unit available.

I am satisfied with the HD. I have not faced any issues with speed till date as I have only done small copies. For small requirements, this is a good drive. I would cerainly recoomend it to anyone for small home usage.

Western Digital quality with an off brand price. No external power supply and protective rubber ends are nice. A little software included but not even needed. Super simple, great product! CONS: Only actually 370 GB.

This is a small hard drive with large capacity. The short cable and no additional needed power is a plus. Plug and play makes it really easy. I just wanted a small USB drive, knew Western Digital was the best, and got a great deal from buy.com. I did free shipping and was told 11 business days, I got it 2 days later.

I love the smallness of this unit as well as the plug and play aspect, the large storage capacity and great price. I use it on a Mac, and it's worked quickly and seamlessly. Two thumbs up!

What can I say. It is everything that it is described to be. Easy set up, just plug in the USB cable and it's ready to go. I've had the product about 3 weeks and find it to be a great value. The only thing I would change about it is the USB cable length. With the length of the cable you don't get much choice on where to place the drive. Cables are cheap though and I can buy a longer one to give me more options of where to place the drive. I think most folks would be pleased with the drive for its portability and ease of use.

I bought this hard disk to backup my photos, videos and other files. I have selected this for two reasons, one it is portable and it is USB powered(not external power) so that I can take it anywhere and plug it in and use it with out worrying about external power sockets. The size of this HDD is smaller than I thought, it just fits into your palm. Intially I thought of buying Western Digital Passport model, but comparing the price I decided to go for this. Passport model may be thinner than this, but this one also portable and light weight, so why pay more bucks? And the operation is very easy, just connect the USB cable between this HDD and your PC, you are all set to use it. And the file transfer is also pretty quick(ofcourse it is USB2.0). Overall I am happy with this so far. I would recommend this to anyone who wants a robust, yet portable HDD.

Exceptionally large capacity for its small size of 3"x 5". Very satisfied for my use as a photographer for storing pictures. It functions very well and meets all my needs. Great value and service!

I looked all over the place for a nice, inexpensive, and portable hard drive. This HD works perfectly. It was delivered quickly and boxed very well. The drive is better than most because it does not need external power. Just plug it in and you're copying files instantly. Best bang for your buck, hands down!

This portable drive fit my needs perfectly. It's very compact, lightweight, runs, smoothly, quietly and very cool. This tiny package is also very fast. Absolutely no problems using this with my Macs.

Can't beat the Price for this large of a portable Hard Drive - It's comparable in price (and in many cases even less expensive) than 250GB portable drives I've seen. As one reviewer suggested I reformatted the drive in NTFS format right away, so I'm not sure of the performance if it is left in FAT32, but I'm very happy with the performance formatted this way. I actually like the short USB cable for portability and it is fine for use with notebooks. A longer cable would be necessary to use it with a desktop computer. Delivery time of 2 Business days with Free Shipping was much better than expected - I ordered it on a Saturday afternoon, it shipped out on Monday and I received it Wednesday morning.

this hard drive is what i've been looking for, not only was the price great, but the performance is good. all I had to do was plug it in my laptop and it finds it with no problem. it's portable and convenient because i don't have to carry around an adapter. overall it's a great hard drive to have

After looking around for a very months (I hate buyers regret!) This drive popped up. I case you are wondering it is USB only powered, and by 1 cable only - I found it difficult to verify this when researching :) Works well. Simple no frills. 400GB is a great size and this portable is by far the best size/cost ratio on the net. The rubber end caps remove if you don't like them. A blue LED flashes during read/write. No software is included but this is the only difference I noted between this and the "WD Passport" drives (which are prettier, if that is important to you). No regrets, great buy

This is a cool small portable hard drive. It is worth the money you pay for. The rubber beeding on the corner protects the hard drive from shocks. I would 100% recommend this product.

I bought this one a few weeks ago and I have been using it to store ISO images (5-8GB files). Good: The write speed is between 12-14MB/s which is pretty good. I reformat the drive to a bigger blocksize 64KB to get a better performance. Odd: It seems that it doesn't work well with my front computer USB ports, probably because they don't have enough power to boot up properly the device, I plug-ed in to the back USB port and it worked fine. Another Odd thing, I was copying 3 files to the device at the same time and windows detected a miss-write error (potential data loss) so I re-copied the files one by one to be careful. I only have had this error once.

I was looking for a small external drive that would fit into a "safe deposit" box at my bank. This drive fits perfectly. After using the drive, I purchased a second one to make off-site storage more practical. I'll probably purchase a third drive to use with my laptops. Not needing a power supply for the drive is definitely a plus for portable use. Technically, the drive is exactly as expected. Plug it in and the computer recognizes it immediately. I backed up three computers, a Dell (Windows XP Pro) and two HP's (one with Vista) without a hitch. Use is painless. Construction seems robust, so it should tolerate normal handling. Well done WD and good service Buy.com.

This product was a marvelous value! I could not believe how fast it arrived at my house!!! I ordered it Tues. 11am, it arrived Wed. 10am (with no expedited shipping)! And, for those of us who enjoy downloading movies or music, or if you want to backup all your family photos, or you need more storage space for games, etc. this product definitely fits the bill. I have only one very minor complaint: the cord supplied could be a bit longer, but if you have one from another USB device, it's just fine. I also love that it has rubberized corner caps...that way it won't slip or slide. Overall, this is a very useful and easy-to-use product. I would recommend it to anyone who has storage needs...especially laptop users, but also desktop users. Great Buy!!!

So happy with this item! 400GB can back up several computers. Very portable, smaller than a pack of cigarettes, and easily stored. Only problem I had getting started was disconnecting once finished with it. Kept getting an error message "not safe to remove hard drive". This is just a PC setting to fix, as I learned. Didn't think the WD instructions were clear on this, but muddled through it using Windows Troubleshooting facility. The cable could be longer also, but I use my camera cable so this solves the problem. Otherwise, a great product and would highly recommend.

While less "elegant" than the Passport series, it seems sturdier (with rubber protectors at ends, more solid-seeming construction), and you get more bang for the buck. Also, it's not loaded with unnecessary software. As far as the person who complained about the 600GB model for the same price is concerned, the 640GB Elements is not a USB-powered portable. It's a larger unit and is AC powered, so not a good bet if you need portability. I don't believe portables are available over 500GB.

Very easy to use. Great capacity for backup for my photos, should hold around 90,000 photos. Very easy to take and just plug in when needed, I like the fact of no electric plug needed.

This is a great little drive for backup and moving data. The speeds are a little slow, but I can play movies off of it when it is connected to my laptop. I may buy another to connect to my car stereo. Great buy, got mine home for around $75.
