Western Digital Elements 1TB USB 2.0 External Hard Drive - Black - WDE1UBK10000N

My only con for this product is that the enclosure has no on/off switch. You have to unplug the power cord to turn it off if you don't want it leeching any extra power by being on after you've turned your machine off. Other than that it's a nice hard drive. The rubberized enclosure keeps it from sliding off any smooth surfaces as well as protecting it from damage.

Small enough, I can take it anywhere. I checked all the comments here before I ordered it. Fast enough for me. I don’t like fancy lights here and there so this WD did a good work with this blue flashing light, plain and simple. Great for us DJs the rubber grips will keep it in place.

The drive stays cool and detects on all pcs very quickly. It's not the easiest portable drive but fits fine in my laptop bag when traveling. The rubber grips help stabilize the drive wherever you set it as well.

I've one 1 TB for 6 months+, one 500GB for 9 months+ and they all work as they should. So I just got another 1 TB couple of weeks ago. I like the idea that they all share the same kind of electric plug incase one doesn't work. I use them as a backups, one is even a backup to a back up store it in my in-law's house. I've more than 10+ HD (3 elements) for my personal & business. So far they all work and some are more than 5 years old.

I own 5 different WD external drives - 250mb and 320mb tiny passports, two 500gb MyBooks and now the 1tb Elements! I use the elements with a Dell Precision to augment the internal 500gb SATA drive. As far as speed - it is sufficient enough not to notice the difference from the internal drive on the Dell. As far as noise - it is nearly silent, probably due to the housing and rubber feet - it is built like a tank, and just works!

I got this hard disk few days ago, it is very easy to use, nice size and shape, I like it !!! The only thing it comes in FAT32 u have to format it to NTFS.

I've used some of the smaller external HDs from Western Digital before and have always been satisfied with their performance/price. When I came across the 1 TB HD on Buy.com I knew that I was getting a good deal; and I am preparing to go back to Iraq with the Army so I knew that a TB worth of storage space would help me greatly with my digital storage needs for both entertainment as well as whatever miscellaneous items I need to take with me.

These drives are very quite and stay cool. I use them to back up movies, photos and music. My first purchase was for two of these drives, they worked so well that about three weeks later I purchases two more. They are usb2 drives, come with the power supply and a usb cable. Because the transfer rate is so fast I can view movies from these drives without downloading the movie to the hard drive in the computer. The drive comes in a black metal case with rubber shock bumpers around the front and back of the case. All cables plug in the back and the status led is also in the back. That is the light that flashes to tell you when the drive is reading or writing data. At first I thought that this may be an issue, but since the drives work so well the data always goes where is should. You will NOT be unhappy if you purchase this drive. I do believe there will be two more in my future. A 1TB hard drive with speed is a GREAT thing. Hope this helps you. ART from Long Island

The product was shipped and received within an acceptable time frame. It has a great a great size for the price. It also doesn't have many external indicators on it which can be annoying. The product is relatively silent when in use and doesn't heat up very much. The major concern that I have was that the product description didn't specify that the drive wasn't USB powered. It requires a ac plug and therefore limits it portability. With all of it good features this one is minor if portability isn't what you are looking for. Good value and size for the money.

I was surprised by how slow the hard disk is in transferring files into its memory. Other than that it works fine and is a lot of space for the price.

I've owned this for about two weeks. Plugged in, worked instantly. I don't hear it and the speed is adequate for my purposes. Perfect for backup storage. It is now my home network's 'black box'.

I've been shopping around for a 1 TB hard drive for a couple of weeks and came across this one on Buy.com. I researched it further, and couldn't find a flaw. Buy.com got it to me in about 2 days, which was much sooner than I expected it. It's simple plug-n-play. I copied about 30 gigs of music from my desktop to the drive in about 10 minutes. It's lightning fast. Overall, an amazing purchase. If you need a high-capacity HD, look no further.

I have been using the WD My Book Series of external hard drives for a while now. I have four of them in the 500GB size to back up my documents, file, pictures, videos, and music. I am glad I had them when my office was broken in to recently and I lost all three computers and one of the external hard drives. I still had the others to use to restore the files to my new replacement work station. However, I still lost so many programs and other things by losing my computers that I had not backed up. The solution? I bought this new 1TB WD drive and I use it now solely as a whole-computer back-up as a redundant back-up with the other drives. Now, if I lose another computer, I can still back up 620GB of computer programming and files and have everything back the way it was. I am jazzed about the small price I had to pay for so much storage space. I will never buy another drive without at least 1TB of storage space. This was a GREAT deal on a great product at an unbelievably great price. And Buy.com delivered it with free shipping and it got here in three days! I am hooked! Thanks...

As the title says. the drive is very fast, it's large and it was CHEAP.Very happy. I did have to reformat to NTFS file system out of the box to accept the larger backup files I was putting on it but hey, that took like 10 secs. so very good drive and awesome price. No issues,

It only connects via USB, but for the price I cannot complain. It does what I need it to do and I easily partitioned it into quarters so that I can use it between my various computers.

I bought this unit about 3 weeks ago and so far its working just as it should. I use it mainly for storing pictures and home videos. No problems with it so far. Very quiet, very fast, and the price is very good for a 1 TB.. Overall I'm extremely satisfied with my purchase.

For the price I would not complain that much since it will be placed on a desk, but the heading is misleading (or I misunderstood). I thought it would be USB powered so that I can take it along with me, like my 640GB WD Passport I bought in Italy, but with this weight it has to stay on the desk. No power switch, the activity light is in the back so you cannot see what is going on unless you turn it around, no eSATA jack either. So far it has been working fine, copying all my movies and photos as a backup to my 1TB raid desktop drives. If these quirks do not bother you then for the price it is the cheapest I have found on the internet.

When technology works like it should, it's invisible, so there's not much to say. I guess all I can add is that the external rubber bumpers keep it really safe from getting a jolt. I help fix friends' computers, so this device comes in real handy to back up or rescue their files. Within a few days of owning it, I named it "Chuck." I don't know why, but just goes to show it's a friendly piece of technology. I don't swear at it.
